Subject: January Song Of The Month Entry Thread -- Entries Closed

Written By: Claude_Prez on 07/31/04 at 6:01 pm

The SOTM contest didn't begin until March this year.  To make up for missing the first two months of the year, if there are enough entries we'll be holding a contest for January during August, and a contest for February during September.

~~Entries begin after the last parody update of the month.
~~Any song first appearing at AmiRight during the contest month (this year) is eligible.
~~To enter, reply to this thread with the url of your entry.
~~By entering, you are agreeing to read all the other entries and vote.
~~On the eighth day of the month, entries close and voting begins.
~~Vote by replying to voting thread with your three favorites in order:  Top choice gets 3 points, next gets 2 points, third favorite gets 1 point.
~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.
~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.
~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.
~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~When the new month begins, the first person to enter the next contest should copy this message and start the new entry thread with it.
~~Rule changes may be suggested by any participant in their entry post.  Changes are made only when a majority of that month's voters specify a "yes" vote along with their contest votes.

My entry is.......

Ear Doctor

My entry, "Ear Doctor", is a parody of David Seville's "Witch Doctor".

David Seville is most famous for "Alvin And The Chipmunks".

On the web page located at the following URL there is a link to a long, excellent sample of the original tune "Witch Doctor" ... this free audio sample gives you a complete chorus and samples of other verses, too:

(When you go to the following Amazon web page, scroll down to the section labeled "Listen to Samples")

I look back at January and find the distance makes them somehow funnier. Must mean I'm grumpier now. Going with one of my pet peeves.

Drat, until early March I was an innocent AmiRight-free civilian, so I will have to bob up and down in anticipation until I can submit some of my newbies.
By the way, I do believe I introduced the phrase 'newbies' and feel great pride that my lovechild has infected many other people's vocabularies.
PS. If I didn't invent 'newbie' I will eat my keyboard, with extra relish on the 'page up' button.

This parody made a cameo in another, very early tourney. It is, however, the best I can put forward for January. I also have a name-dropper chalupa parody, but SOTM is the wrong place for name-droppers.

January was a good month for me... it's hard to know what to choose.  Guess I'll go with

Good idea to dredge up these missing months...my January was a banner month, in terms of new material and new styles. I will pop this one up as my January nomination, since it is still so relevant and won't ever get a chance to be heard like this again (at least I hope and pray that would be so):

Shucks, too bad we're only rewinding back to January. If we went back to December, I'd have, like, a whole CD's worth to choose from, plus I'd finally have an excuse for all the plugging you see at left and below.

Anyhoo, I'll go with my unauthorized autobiography, "I'm a D-i-c-k," to Meredith Brooks's "B-i-t-c-h" (and d-a-m-n this board's naughty-word cleanser!):

Rick talked me into entering for January, even though I've been on hiatus for a while (working too hard  :D).  Here's one that I'd like to see get more exposure, so I'll expose myself ;) ...
