Subject: ABC Round "S" entry thread

Written By: PRobinson on 09/12/04 at 5:12 am

Well, I see no one started up or volunteered to run the "S" round for the (ABC Contest).  So I guess I'll try to do it.  Because no entry thread was posted and what with all the things going on this last week I think the best thing to do is open the "S" entries up now and let the entry period run a full week.  So entries for the "S" round will be accepted until Sunday, September 19th, 2004, midnight, with a grace period lasting until I officially close the entry thread sometime the following morning, Monday, 09/20/2004.  If there are no objections I'm going to keep the scoring format that "Invincible" used for the "R" round.  Each entrant will make a 1st/2nd & 3rd place selection with a 3-2-1 scoring system.  All entrants must post their selections prior to the voting deadline or face a penalty for not doing so.  Entrants cannot vote for their own entry.  It's kind of late so I will review this note tomorrow (Sunday) and make any needed additions or clarifications.  If anyone has any comments or questions about the process you can go ahead and post them on this thread and I will try to answer them...if I don't know perhaps one of the other players/readers WILL know.

Thanks,

Paul R

Well, after looking at my "S" parodies I've decided to go with one that I actually wrote a number of years ago, long before I ever gave any thought to applying myself to writing song parodies.  When I decided I would try posting here on 'amiright' I took this one out and polished it up a bit and made it part of the five initial parodies I posted here, back on November 10th, 2003.

To Stephen Stills original "Love The One You're With", my parody, "Sell Out All Your Hits"

Making a good parody out of a bad song is one of the hardest things to do in this business. This is my attempt at that, and I'm entering it into the contest.

I give you...<crosses himself> "Smarty All The Time" It's about the biggest star in horse racing last year. If you read this parody, be prepared to vote and comment truthfully, or just point and laugh. Whatever you feel like.

So, should I select a song that seems silly or something slightly more soporific? Say-- I shall shoot out this semi-sonnet that satisfies such criteria simply and succinctly. (Sheesh, so much sibilance!)

Hey everyone, finally on this site.  Sorry I've taken a long break from parodies, but I'll soon do some more.  Anyway, I'm not gonna enter this round, but watch out for me on the later abc rounds, as well as the month rounds.

1.  When's the voting thread going up?

2.  I got a friendly "don't want to reset your ratings" comment on my entry in this round.  The sentiment is greatly appreciated, but the ratings on it are old enough they didn't get wiped, so there's no danger of that.  In case anyone's afraid of resetting any of my ratings counts, please don't be. I have all my ratings counts, that hadn't already been reset as of a couple of weeks after the wipe, printed out if I decide I want to refer to them.  Even though it's not among my wiped parodies, I also put up a pre-wipe tally comment on my entry for this round so nobody else will worry about it.  :)

Funny that the amiright page hasn't been updated in so long, wonder when it will be.  Oh well, there's always this page in the meantime.  And yeah, this should have a voting thread now, but I don't really care because I didn't enter.  I don't even have any parodies yet, but I probably will soon.
