Subject: ABC Round "S" Voting Thread

Written By: PRobinson on 09/22/04 at 8:49 pm

Sorry, folks...I've been a bit under the weather the last few days and neglected to get over here and put up the "S" Voting thread.  I'll entertain motions to extend the voting a day or so since I have been late in posting this thread.  I'm withdrawing my entry because I do not have much energy right now and I'm not feeling up to going through the entries at this time and I've got some family obligations over the weekend.  Rather than feel pressured I'll just drop out.  I'll be back to check if there is any sentiment for extending the voting deadline in a day or so.  If not, the official deadline is midinite on Sunday, 09/26/2004, with a grace period until I officially note the voting thread closed the following morning, Monday, 09/27/2004.  Good luck to all and have fun!

NOTICE:  VOTING DEADLING IS NOW EXTENDED FOR THE "S" THREAD UNTIL WEDNESDAY, 09/29/2004, MIDNIGHT, WITH A GRACE PERIOD UNTIL A NOTE THE VOTING CLOSED THE FOLLOWING MORNING.  HOPE THIS IS AMENABLE TO EVERYONE.  THE MESSAGEBOARD WAS APPARENTLY DOWN YESTERDAY, AND WHEN COMBINED WITH MY LATE POSTING OF THIS THREAD IT WOULD BE UNFAIR TO HOLD EVERYONE TO THE FEW DAYS OTHERWISE REMAINING.  BY THE WAY, I'M FEELING A LOT BETTER THIS EVENING FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO MIGHT HAVE BEEN CONCERNED OR WONDERING.

My entry #4 is supposed to be "Strong Enough" (To use the CAN) not car. Paul's not feeling well. I've typed worse.

Rick - Sorry, I came back when I realized I hadn't posted any rules and saw your note.  I've changed the entry listing to correct it.  I must have misread it originially.

I'll beg for that extension.  (Tue or Wed. night, maybe?)  I needed the organization of the voting thread to even get started, this round, and I prefer more time to get to know some of the parodies that are to songs or on topics I don't know well.  Whatever works best for you is cool with me, though.  :)  I can fly through them in one round, if I need to.  :)  Hope you feel 110% really soon!

This week, I am selecting literature, history and food.  The food selection is virtually a tie between the two bun parodies ("Sticky Bun-Bun" and "Spam on a Bun"), but I'm ultimately going with the Bun-Bun puns.

3 points to Johnny D for "Shakespearian Rhapsody" (#1)

2 points to Phil Alexander for "Shooting Tsars" (#21)

1 point to Jeff Reuben for "Sticky Bun-Bun" (#15)

MooRocca,

That sounds reasonable to me (Wednesday, 09/29/2004, midnight, with grace until I close the vote thread the next morning sometime, especially with the "Messageboard" section unavailable yesterday (Thurs, 09/23/04).  I'll post the extended deadline up in the top item of this thread.

Thanks for the best wishes,  feeling much better this evening.

You're the best Paul!  I'll feel much better about my top three selections now that I'll have a chance to go back and revisit the ones I didn't know  or just wasn't sure about.    Glad to hear you're on the mend, too!  Don't try to overdo... ease back into a normal diet and routine.  :)

Oh man, I can't believe I missed it.  I'm apologize to all the people to whom I've deprived the points I was going to give. I have been seriously tangled up at the college, not to mention constant visits to a family therapist (chalk that one up to unspeakable domestic issues).

OK,  here they are - Results of the "S" round of the "ABC Contests":

1st place:      #1 Johnny D - "Shakespearian Rhapsody"     25 points

2nd place:     #6 MooRocca - "Stealing Movies"                        15 points

3rd place:      #18 John Jenkins - "Super Tacos With Green Salsa Give Me Halitosis"
                                                                                 14 points

other contestants with 10 or more points:  #16 Guy DiRito with 11 and #21 Phil Alexander with 10.

Other point totals #10 Rice Cube & Watt Daddy - 6, #17 Adagio - 6, #7. Arwen - 5, #15 Jeff Reuben - 5, #9 Luke Brattoni - 4, #11. Martha D - 4, #5 Nerminem - 3, #8 Merry/Pippin - 3, #19 Mystery Goat 3

There were 21 entries.   There was 1 withdrawn entry (#2 P.Robinson)  19 votes were cast (#8 Merry & Pippin each vote in these rounds) and 2 non-voters:  #3. The Invincible, who posted an apology and explanation late this morning and #20. Bryan Pardue, who we did not hear from.  I double-checked all my tallies and came up with 19 votes for 1st/2nd/3rd and 114 total points (19 x 6 = 114). I also double-checked the individual tallies to make sure I assigned the votes to the correct entrant (no vote fixing here in "amiright-land", we'll leave that kind of stuff to Florida).  In case anyone was wondering, the entrant with the most first place votes was also the winner (Johnny D, with 6).  If I may make a suggestion, if everyone would vote with the NUMBER & NAME of the entrant it would make vote tallying easier, especially in these rounds with a lot of entrants.

Thanks to all for your cooperation.

Paul R.

OOPS! - I was so busy tallying and giving advice on how to vote I forgot to congratulate JD, for winning, MooRocca & JJ for 2nd and 3rd place and everyone else for their fine & funny entries.  But I have now...

Thanks to Paul for hosting, extra special thanks for hosting whilst ill... hope you're 110%, now.  :)

Thanks to everyone for reading, rating and considering and for entering parodies it was a pleasure for me to read, rate & consider.

My pleasure, Goat Man, you earned my vote.  :)

Thanks to Ethan for starting this weekly shindig and putting up with our whining for as many weeks as he did.

Thanks to everyone for letting me play along in a few rounds and for sending me out in a blaze of second place glory!  I checked my author's page, a couple of days ago to see if I had anything contest-worthy for the rest of the alphabet -- I don't -- so barring a burst of sudden inspiration that corresponds to the right title to enter an upcoming round, this will be my last round in the ABCs.    This was fun!
