Subject: ABCs Round T Entry Thread - Closed

Written By: philbo on 09/30/04 at 4:21 am

Time to step up to the oche and take on a round, I guess :)

The last couple of rounds seem to have been 1-2-3 rather than simple one-off selection - personally I prefer that, even though it does mean you have to think more.

So place your parodies that begin with "T" here.  Before the question is asked, parodies beginning with the word "The" will be allowed, so long as it's not been submitted as an entry into any other round.

Entries close end of next week, i.e. close of play Sunday 10th October - voting starts Monday 11th.

Merry & Pippin's entry is :

Turning Siamese

Based on The Vapors' "Turning Japanese"

A cut-down (64 bitrate) MP3 of the original is available for evaluation purposes :

Thanks, Phil.  I couldn't have taken this round, I have a couple of U.S. Income Tax Returns to complete and could not have done this round.

Okay, so this is my entry.  It's the first one I did, but I think it stands the test of time.

http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/barenakedladies23.shtml

"Two Teeth" is a parody of One Week.  It's about the trials of a visit to the dentist.
The original song is funny in and of itself, and I tried my best to match that level of humor.

Tarnation, it's time to tow another tune out of the trunk and try to tickle your funnybone. Try this take on a tale of teenaged trauma, I think it''s terrific.

My "T" round entry is ...

"Tights I'm Quite Fat In"

... which is a parody of "Nights In White Satin" (by The Moody Blues).

Boy, am I glad that I'm laying out of this round!  :o

This has come up before. I don't believe you can count "the" as part of the title.

Yeah, Phil mentions this in the initial post.  He said parodies starting with the word "the" can be submitted if they weren't used in a previous contest.  I just checked and since this parody was not entered in the G round, I move that Phil allow the entry.  And the link has a typo in it, a slash instead of a dot between amiright and com.

Philbo,

I might want to reconsider "Tights I'm Quite Fat In" as my entry, since I have many parodies whose names begin with "The".

So your rule says that I can enter a parody whose title begins with the word "The" so long as I have not entered it in any previous round, correct?

I know I quoted your statement here and then I just re-iterated it almost verbatim...but I want to be absolutely sure since there appears to be a little uncertainty.

Thanks, Phil.

It wasn't clarified until after a few rounds that titles which start with "The" or "A" should ignore the (in)definite article, so people may have thought that they were unable to use them.  So I thought it would be fair to say that parody titles that start with the definite article would be allowable in the "T" round, but not if you've used the same song in an earlier round.

So Jared's "The governer..." is fine, so long as he didn't submit the same song for the G round (which I don't believe he did... I'll check if anyone wants)

Hope this has cleared things up

Phil

Thank you for clearing that up, Phil.

Okay!  Since Phil has officially confirmed that parodies whose titles begin with "The" are eligible for entry into this "T" round, here is my "T" round entry:

"The Charge-It-To-Ya Chorus"

... which is a parody of "The Hallelujah Chorus" by Georg Friedrich Handel.

DKTOS?  You can listen to a free MP3 of "The Hallelujah Chorus" here:

I need a ruling on my song title. I entered it as:

"Another Hobbit's Tale (Part 4): The Ring is Mine"

I submitted it as part of an album and so put the album name in before the specific parody name. Just let me know if it's cool. If not, then I've got some other 'T's lying around, but this would definitely be my pick if it is indeed allowed.

Thanks fer yer time.

Edited:

Awesome, thanks Phil.

For simplicity purposes, you could list the title as "The Ring is Mine"

Just my opinion, but since I've never found a songbook that lists songs by "The", I don't think it should be allowed. It opens up at least four times as many songs for the letter "T" than anything other letter. But I'm not running it, so I'll go along with "The Crowd" (Letter C, dammit)

Songbooks don't, but your parody author page does... anyway, these competitions aren't *that* formal - which is why

"Another Hobbit's Tale (Part 4): The Ring is Mine"

I'm going to allow (seeing as it looks like I've picked the most problematic of letters over which to preside).

If anyone has a serious problem with this, then I suggest you check what's happening to votes in Florida: it's much more serious ;)

Surprisingly, I don't have a 'The' parody, but this one which I could rewrite every two weeks as more and more 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' entires come pouring in.

This was tough (lots of "T's" in there, too).  I was torn between a number of my "Thumb" parodies and "The Bummer", but finally decided to go with "Thumbed Out!(A Baseball Manager's Lament)" in honor of the possibility of both the Dodgers AND Angels making the upcoming Major League Baseball play-offs for the first time ever in the same season and the remote possibility of an "L.A. Freeway" Series somehow becoming a reality.  This parody is based on the CSN song "Marrakesh Express" from their debut album in 1969.

Well, Gollll-leeee Geeee!!! Both the Dodgers AND the Angels DID come through and win their respective Divisions (in dramatic and exciting fashion, to boot)!!!! I haven't been this interested in baseball in quite a while (well, actually the 2002 Angel team that won the World Series hooked me in about June that year when they started making 9th & extra-inning comeback wins that started with a couple straight that involved Grand Slam Home Runs from unlikely guys like David Eckstein.  I really got into that team & it was a fun run).  I'm really hoping both SoCal teams can advance past their  difficult First Round opponents.  The high-flying St. Louis Cardinals and the very dangerous and suddenly very balanced and cohesive Boston Red Sox...
