Subject: September SOTM Voting

Written By: Claude_Prez on 10/08/04 at 11:28 am

~~Vote by replying to this thread with your three favorites in order: Top choice gets 3 points, next gets 2 points, third favorite gets 1 point.
~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.
~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.
~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.
~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~Voters must leave a brief comment on every parody, indicating they've read it for the SOTM contest (something like, "SOTM--555" or whatever)

Also, if you haven't already, please vote "yes" or "no" to the addition of the following rule:

~~In the event of a tie, the parody with the most first place votes wins. If it's still tied, the parody with the most second place votes wins. If it's still tied, a brief playoff round will be held. All participants will have the first week of the month to choose one favorite from among the tied entries. Tiebreaker voting is strongly encouraged but not required. On the eighth day the one with the most votes wins.

If passed, this rule will go into effect for this month's contest if needed.  Thank you.

Claude - I think I weighed in on the "tie-breaker" scheme you laid out above, but if you missed it I cast one vote IN FAVOR of the proposed tie-breaking procedure outlined herein.  It's a very clean, crisp and fair way to handle it.

A tremendous round. Six of these made my top three. Alas, after budget cuts, I was left with:

3 points: #10, "Over the Hill"
2 points: #9, "It Really Wasn't Worth It"
1 point: #13, "Read My Lips"

Yes to the rule proposal.

Folks, this is, by far, the hardest decision that I ever had to make for the Top 3  in this monthly competition.  :o I really want to give a hand to everyone for some of the funniest work ever, all around.  8)Will respond with my vote later.

EDIT: Final vote...and for some reason, they all kind of go together... ;)

3Pts=#10 (extra special for de Caribbean accent, and daring to not rhyme the title)
2pts=#6 (how you got past the censor, I'll never know!!)
1pt=#2 (especially for not making "2nd verse same as the first")

Believe me, I'm thrilled you voted, Steve.  Especially for wonderful MEEEE!!  But unless I'm mistaken, you haven't technically entered a SOTM contest yet, so I'm VERY RELUCTANTLY going to have to declare this extremely thoughtful and well-chosen ballot an unofficial bonus (but please let me know if I'm mistaken, cause it sure wouldn't take much to change my mind).  Thanks again and I hope this means you'll be entering next month.

2pts to Spaff #17

There's a crapload of contests around so it's surprising you haven't entered one but I'm pretty sure you haven't.  I'm not sure what idiot made this stupid rule anyway...

Actually, I called for it:

Say, would anyone mind coming up with a quick self-deprecating jab pointing out how high the overall quality of the SOTM entries are, that may or may not be misunderstood?  Someone Australian, please.

3 points to #13 (Phil)
2 points to #17 (Spaff)
1 point to #2 (Rick)

I almost changed my votes when I realized these are the same three authors I chose last month.  You know, spread the wealth around, make other people happy.  But screw that, these are my honest favorites, though there were several that were very close behind.

3 Points to  "Over the Hill"  by Claude Prez.

2 Points to  "Read My Lips"  by Phil Alexander.

1 Point to  "It Really Wasn't Worth It"  by Martha DTox.

And YES to the tiebreaker rule.

One knows that it has been another hard round when one look at the list and realise that there are almost 10 other songs that one have checked out several times before being able to decide what three to go with...

Subject: Re: September SOTM Voting

Written By: PRobinson on 10/17/04 at 3:28 am

Well, another INCREDIBLY tough month to judge here.  I'm going with:

1st place - #2 Rick Duncan's "I'm Going To Donate, I Am"
2nd place -#11 MooRocca's "Aiming"
3rd place - #8 Arwen's "Smooshed A Big Spider"

Just about every entry here was in the running for the top 3 slots on my list,  it was very difficult to narrow it to just 3 and then even harder to give those three an ordering.

Subject: Re: September SOTM Voting

Written By: MooRocca on 10/17/04 at 9:14 pm

Is it just me or are these SOTM rounds getting harder and harder to judge?  This one was almost impossible!

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who participated, especially the ones who took the time to read and comment on every parody even though they were not entered this month.  Not just because they happened to snatch me from the jaws of defeat at the last second in a hair-raising manner, but because.......okay, yeah, that's mainly why.  Woohoo!!!  LOVE that rule!!  *Ahem*  Okay, speaking of rules, the new one did pass, I didn't count but there were lots of yes votes and I don't recall seeing any no votes so the tiebreaker rule will be added to the voting rules.  Also, only one nonvoter this month; can't remember his name but he didn't get any votes anyway.  All right, I think we're done here.  Thanks again all.

Congrats Claude, Rick and Phil. True masters of the farce in my view. You know Claude, somebody really oughta celebrate your Red Sox-ish quest for the elusive Gold, especially in the tournament that you have been more or less piloting for almost a year now. Until that time you all will just have to settle for my prediction:
