Subject: 2004 SOTM Wild Card Round Entries -- Entries Closed

Written By: Claude_Prez on 01/01/05 at 11:51 am

If you've participated in a Song of the Month Contest, you know how fierce the competition can be.  If you've voted in at least a few of them, you know the pain of having to leave out excellent songs by some excellent authors.  As a result of this high level of competition, some outstanding parody authors haven't had a song finish in the top three this year.  The Wild Card round was created for them, to give them an additional shot at the recognition they deserve without being thwarted by those greedy hotdogs who constantly dominate the competition.  Not naming any names.  Anyway, here's how it works:

~~Any author who's participated in a 2004 Song of the Month Contest, but hasn't had a song finish in the top three, is eligible to enter.
~~Any song that first appeared on AmiRight during 2004 may be entered.  It may be a previous SOTM entry or not.  It may be a song submitted in December, even though the December SOTM hasn't taken place yet.
~~To enter, reply to this thread with the url of your entry.
~~By entering, you are agreeing to read all the other entries and vote.
~~On the eighth day of the month, entries close and voting begins.
~~Vote by replying to voting thread with your three favorites in order: Top choice gets 3 points, next gets 2 points, third favorite gets 1 point.
~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.
~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.
~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.
~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.  Former top three finishers are especially encouraged to vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~Voters must leave a brief comment on every parody, indicating they've read it for the SOTM contest (something like, "SOTM--555" or whatever).

To find out who is definitely ineligible, look here.

*streeeeeeetches out on SOTM couch*

Mmm, this is soooo comfy!

*Looks around*

So, where is everyone?

*tumbleweed*

Don't tell me I'm the only one who has failed to make a top three all year!

*tumbleweed averts eye contact and edges away*

...BASTARDS.

Another Eminem parody out of spite, but an OS you might actually know cuz I'm in new year mood.

Well, that sucks. I got in once, when there were only 6 freaking entries... but I'm still out. :\'(

I think you may be mistaken.  If you finished top three in an ABC round, that doesn't disqualify you from this.  Only those whose songs have finished top three in the Song of the Month contest, all of which are conveniently gathered in this thread, are ineligible to enter.

There's no way I can pass this up.

FYI:  This parody was inspired by a really stupid Halls commercial
where some blue faced geezer is blowing snow and ice at some poor yuppie.
The geezer gets tackled by someone in a Halls football uniform.
So stupid that it was funny.

Oh, oops. Haha... I'm retarded. In that case... I don't even know what would be my best parody, I'll have to think about that. And dang, it seems like a lot of my favorite parodies were late 2003. It's definitely between Get My Homework Started and On the Joys of Burglary... hard freaking choice. I guess I'll go with the former.

Not half as bad as the more recent one with the fat guys in the Turkish sweat-bath..."Breathe, my pasty friend!"

The voting will go to the end of the month so if that's not enough time it's not too late to drop out.  Voting would normally start tomorrow but I'm thinking of extending the entry deadline in hopes of getting a few more entries.  We have seven now; ten or twelve would be nice.  We could also accept entries from people who haven't participated in the SOTM contest if people want.  The more entries we have, the more exposure everyone gets but of course it could be more difficult to get votes.  If anyone has any thoughts on this, let me know in the next day or so.

Okay, first of all, I just counted and there are eight entries, not seven.  Oops.  I've decided to extend the entry deadline to Wednesday around noon so voting can begin then.  I've also decided to allow anyone who hasn't participated in a SOTM contest to enter if they like, though I'm guessing we'll get few if any more entries.  That is all for now; thank you for your patience.

What kinda cockamamie contest is this?? :-) I wrote 94 parodies in 2004, and I've gotta choose ONE?? Oh well, here goes...maybe not my most intelligent or insightful work, but lotsa people seemed to like it, so I'll put forward:

"Can't Do Plumbin', Sink's A Fountain" to the tune of "She'll Be Comin' Round The Mountain"

Good luck everybody!!

Of course!  It's always okay to change your entry up until the entries are closed -- usually all you have to do is modify your original post and replace the url but it's not a bad idea to let me know just in case I have them copied over already.
