Subject: April SOTM Voting Thread

Written By: Claude_Prez on 05/08/05 at 10:40 pm

Note to new participants: Welcome, and good luck. Please read all guidelines carefully. Especially, please make sure to read all the entries and vote by the end of the month. The SOTM is not so much a contest as a feedback exchange. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, either in this thread or via personal message. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

~~Vote by replying to this thread with your five favorites in order:
1st choice- 5 points
2nd place- 4 points
3rd place- 3 points
4th place- 2 points
5th place- 1 point.
~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.
~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.
~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.
~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~Voters are strongly encouraged to leave at least a brief comment on every parody, to prove they've at least clicked on them all. Failure to do so will not result in official consequences, but will indicate to others that you're not interested in receiving comments either.
~~In the event of a tie, the parody with the most first place votes wins.
If it's still tied, the parody with the most second place votes wins.
If it's still tied, a brief playoff round will be held.
All participants will have the first week of the month to choose one favorite from among the tied entries.
Tiebreaker voting is strongly encouraged but not required. On the eighth day the one with the most votes wins.

It's probably a shock to see me voting so early...but I'll be in San Diego (WOOHOO!) for the last part of the month, and won't be able to get my last minute voting in... :)

So...if I could give all of these guys 5 points, I would...they were ALL stand-outs...among a list of excellent entries...

5 points for Jeff...for describing my dream date...(I'm telling you, a man who beats a carnie in the spleen is what EVERY girl is looking for)...

4 points for Kristof...my ongoing hero of sorts...

3 points for Claude...I love Christmas music, I love baseball, and I LOVED his parody...

I probably say this every month, but I'm not exaggerating a bit to say that this was best set of SOTM entries yet. I went through them making notes on which ones DEFINITELY had to be in the top 5, and I ended up with 10. I read most of them two or three times, and cutting my list from 10 to 5 was a fairly impossible task. Here's where the dust settled:

5 points: 22. Extensively Remodelled, Now I'm Mostly Artific-ial
4 points: 17. Sixteen Sons
3 points: 14. I Am Sixty - Going On Seventeen
2 points: 7. Fake I.D.
1 point: 9. The President's Song

Honorable mentions all around. If you feel shafted, don't; please see my individual comments to you.

Another tough month, all the top 4 on my list would IMHO have been contestants for top 3 SOTY 2004! That’s how hard it was this month. And the bunch I had to tell apart for fifth place was even bigger!!! After much agony I decided to give that sole point to a newbie that has never made my five-list before, but it could have gone to anyone of approx 8-10 songs. Anyway, a tad above the rest, basically because of the timing with current events when it was first posted, is in my book:

“Vatican City” by Spaff.com

And then, getting 4, 3, 2 and 1 points:

“The President's Song” by Phil Alexander

“Extensively Remodelled, Now I'm Mostly Artific-ial” by Kristof Robertson

“Sixteen Sons” by Dee Range

“English is illogical” by Red Ant

First and second were clear-cut for me.

Kristof's has everything - gags, wit, pacing, nudge-nudges, no wasted lines - all his parodies do, but this was pure Kristof and is song of the year for me so far.
Spaff's was great until I downloaded the previously DK'd OS, and then it became brilliant - witty, playful, topical and sharp - all his trademarks.

Arwen has the most individual style and sense of humour on the site imo. Her parodies are unmistakeably hers, and the detail-based mock-outrage, and the micro-environment she consistently recreates deserves honouring in itself.

Phil's erudition, wordplay, and pacing perfectionism always hit a chord with me

and Red Ant's lateral idea was great in itself, but the quirky execution of it, and the witty frills he tacked on charmed me, AND he's a newbie!

Congrats to Spaff, who I was convinced had this in the bag (again... ;)) and especially to Dee, who's always been incredibly supportive of me, but only needs to have a look in the mirror to catch sight of a great parodist. Kristof, you're on a roll! Keep up the outstanding work; and the same goes for everyone else too. While I'm disapointed that (IMHO) my best parody ever didn't crack the top 10, it had some very stiff competition and there's no shame in it. Oh, well, I have a good feeling about next month!

Congrats to everyone, it was an outstanding month, I'm proud to even have scored points with my own silly little ditty in such hard competion.  :)

Kristof:
You're now the kind of Android that is always fully functional
You bump and grind and squirt your stuff in intervals quite punctual

Spaff:
The BennySixteenth Chapel is already 78 years old and raised because of that, I predict that the dark side will keep you alive long enough to get at least one more "creational" shot at the chair.

Dee: There must be a tie in joke between your sixteen sons and Benny Sixteen the mentioned above here, I just can't come up with it from the top of my head, instead I'll send you some "rubber miters" for your "head".
