Subject: December SOTM Voting

Written By: Claude_Prez on 01/08/06 at 4:26 pm

Note to new participants: Welcome, and good luck. Please read all guidelines carefully. Especially, please make sure to read all the entries and vote by the end of the month. The SOTM is not so much a contest as a feedback exchange. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, either in this thread or via personal message. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

~~Vote by replying to this thread with your five favorites in order:
1st choice- 5 points
2nd place- 4 points
3rd place- 3 points
4th place- 2 points
5th place- 1 point.

~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.

~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.

~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.

~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.

~~By entering, you are agreeing to read and comment on all the other entries and vote.

~~Anyone who enters but does not both comment on all entries and vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.

~~In the event of a tie, the parody with the most first place votes wins.
If it's still tied, the parody with the most second place votes wins.
If it's still tied, a brief playoff round will be held.
All participants will have the first week of the month to choose one favorite from among the tied entries.
Tiebreaker voting is strongly encouraged but not required. On the eighth day the one with the most votes wins.

Next time, I think I'll submit my religious parody - or should I say parodeity?

I'd laugh if I get chosen for the 2005 Wild Card Round.

Oops.  I'm not sure we're doing a Wild Card Round this year.  Last year we didn't get very many entries.  If people are interested, we could still do it, but I'd want to get it done this month so speak up quickly.

I'm interested.

Oops.  I suppose I should have explained more about the WC Round first.  The idea was to try to reward those who'd participated in the SOTM all year (or at least once), but never tasted the sweet sweet thrill of finishing in the top three.  We wound up with only nine entrants last year -- I think people didn't want to be associated with a "loser-fest" or something.  It was won by known loser Kristof Robertson.

So, anyway, Red Ant, you'd be ineligible since you've finished third.  Twice, I believe.  Sorry about that.  Anyone else?

Loser fest? There are NO losers on Amiright!!!  ;). I think it's worth trying to run again...heck, as the incumbent, I'll run it this year if there are no objections. With more contestants in SOTM this year, I guarantee there'll be some willing to put their necks on the block. And look at me...after a full year of intensive psychotherapy, I've just about gotten over the *twitch* stigma of *TWITCH* winning.... :)

Right...just a bunch of people who DIDN'T WIN.  ;D

Sure, I want a Wild Card tourney, having served as Bridesmaid but never The Bride in these tourneys.

I have no problem with the Wildcard thing either way, if someone's willing to run it, I think it's a great idea.  I would say the votes shouldn't count towards "Author Of The Year" since some authors are ineligible to enter and can't get the points.

Subject: Re: December SOTM Voting

Written By: Claude_Prez on 01/09/06 at 10:38 am

I'll run it this year if there are no objections.

No objections here, believe me.  That way you get to decide if the points count toward PAOTY.  Ha ha.  They did last year, because I wanted as many entrants as possible, and I thought it would be good incentive.  But I can see why some people might find it a bit unfair.  So have fun with that.

Also, I was planning on running the Song of the Year contest concurrently with the January SOTM, but if we have to push it back to give more time to finish up the WC round, I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world.

What a month!

5pts=Spaff...not only song of the month, but quite possible the year...and the decade. I share this parody with friends and family as an instant cheer-up (and events of the past week have made it necessary for me to laugh...don't ask...). Spaff, you are a genius. 8)

4pts=Claude. I have heard a number of "Sleigh Ride" parodies in my 20+ years of Christmas song collecting, and this one tops them.

3pts=Red Ant.

2pts=Kristof.

1pt=Chris Frederick. Welcome to the fore!

Well there's been a lot of good parodies this month fellas, so to pick the top five parodies of the month is hard for me to do...
But being a judge in the December Song of the Mont challange I had to decide...
So I choose these top finialists....

Five Points Goes To Spaff For The Best Parody, Ever... Period, wanna fight about it?!
Four Points Goes To Kristof For The Best Arwenest Parody That Was Not Done By Arwen
Three Points Goes To Claude For The Best True To Life Christmas Parody
Two Points Goes To Johnny D For The Best Parody About Dogs In Heat
One Point Goes To Rick C. For The Most Violent Christmas Parody

Trained Professionals Have Been Working Day and Night To Bring You These Results. If you have a complaint about not being voted for Song of the Month bring it up with the Matthias Corperation at 1-800-BITE-ME

And here's another TOS, the one for Jeff Reubens entry. Again, remove the hyphen, or if that doesn't work either, use the search function on the site ( http://mp3.maxalbums.com/mp3/ ) and search for "George Michael", that oughta do it:

Short list was 7 this month but here goes:

5 points to #20, Shopping Trip by Claude - perfectly paced and rhymed, very funny and relateable. With a gratuitous ass shot. What more does one need?

4 points to #18, The Gamer by Phil A. - I was hoping this would be entered in SOTM. "So I made that bloody GameBoy/An Advanced supposit'ry" is one of my favorite paired lines of 2005.

3 points to #14,  Plop!/ The Nativity by Agrimorfee - A shame that some may be DKTOS here; hearing a MP3 or CD really brings this parody to life in a way that lyrics and a MIDI cannot IMO. This may be your best ever Agrimorfee.

2 points to #21,  88 Lines About 140 Discontinued Varieties at 31 Flavors by Spaff.com - By doing away with extraneous things like verbs you packed TOS Chock Full O' Puns in a way that is probably impossible to duplicate again with any OS. Eye Scream rules.

1 point to #9,  I Always Seem To Injure You by Kristof R. - You should get your middle name changed to "TMGLTM" if you haven't already.

Another great round everyone. And to think the 2006 SOTMs will probably be harder. Yikes!

- possibly the perfect parody to this OS: it uses the original so well it even pipped Spaff's masterpiece.  Which is pretty damn good, too.

3 points - #22.  He's Always A Muppet by Chris Frederick

2 points - # 9.  I Always Seem To Injure You by Kristof Robertson
- hard to believe this has come in at number 4, 'cause it's so funny.

1 point - #10.  X, The Bastard Letter by Red Ant

4 pts.  Peter Andersson. Not sure why this hasn't gotten more votes, it cracked me up!
3 pts.  Claude Prez. Wacky and wonderful.
2 pts.  Agrimorfee. A gem of a parody to a tough OS to parody.
1 pt.  Kristof. Another laugh-fest from the maestro.

Once again, there were a number of others that I thought deserved points. When in doubt, I usually opt for the funniest ones.

Why, thanks everybody! I honestly didn't expect to place this month....December was a busy month for me, and I didn't have time to apply myself to parody writing... so to share the podium with Spaff and Rick is really a surprise and an honour.
Big congrats to Spaff, who (let's be really honest here) is pretty much uncatchable, such is his awesome talent. When you come across a master of this magnitude, just to occasionally be within an arm's length feels pretty good.
Congrats also to Rick, who is rapidly becoming an unstoppable force...keep 'em coming, Mr Cormier!

It's been a great 2005 for me....thanks all for your support and for making me laugh at such regular intervals.

KR

p.s Conqueror, I don't think Phil should be disqualified. He voted on Jan 30 (bottom of page 2) and as far as I'm aware commented on all parodies (although he didn't preface them with SOTM). He posts under the name philbo, which might have confused you. Peace

Great job Spaff, Kristof and Rick.

And though I haven't followed 2005 PAOTY standings much I think Spaff won that too (again) so another congratulations there.

X-cellent and X-citing round and, well, enough of that.  ;)

Due to time contraints and other reasons Jan may be my last SOTM round though if I can I'll stay entered. If not, 2005 was a great year and by entering these contests each of you (some more than others) have helped me write much better material than when I started.

Congratulations to Spaff and Kristof for beating me again. To all of you who voted for my parodies this past year, I thank you.

I too will not be entering SOTM competitions for a while. I will still visit and post on Amiright and, visit this message board from time to time but; there is just too much going on at the moment.

I want to focus more on recording some of the parodies I've already posted and, that takes time. Most of that time will be spent mixing and editing (boring). I will also be focusing more on performing those parodies live (fun).

Anyway, thanks for the laughs, the votes, and the memories.

Also, thanks to Conqui for adding em up promptly.  Although I did find a couple minor discrepancies -- I got Spaff with 62 points, not 61.  And *ahem* Claude Prez with 34 points, not 32.  Other than that, my totals match yours.  Feel free to double-check and adjust if needed; I'd hate for Spaff to lose Parody Author of the Year by one measly point.  Heh heh.

And yes, Philbo voted in plenty of time so Heathcliff the Cat is the only disqualification.

I think Conqui was probably confused by this philbo/Phil A schizoid character...

Congrats as usual to the same ol' usual suspects... now I know who Kaiser Soze *really* is.

Have to say it's been an awesomely impressive year for both Spaff and Kristof: they've both shown an incredible consistency.  Come to think of it, so have I: very consistently not quite as good ;)

Still, another year...

congrats Spaff and Kristof (I've had that line saved as a macro for ages, but now I've turned it into a shortcut button on my keyboard - yippee)

and congrats Rick for giving them a run for their money :)

To the tune of Neil Sedaka's "Calendar Girl":

Big congrats to Spaff, who (let's be really honest here) is pretty much uncatchable, such is his awesome talent. When you come across a master of this magnitude, just to occasionally be within an arm's length feels pretty good.

I give that comment THREE FIVES, WAY UP! Heh heh.

Thanks, y'all, for your votes and comments, as well as for force-feeding my massive ego. I love this place.

Anecdote: I almost didn't enter "88 Lines" in the SOTM. It only got, like, 6 ratings during its first day on Amiright, and that's not generally indicative of a piece with SOTM potential. So I made sure to finish and submit "Under the Tree" by the end of the year, fully intending to enter that (as Matthias predicted). But when that one didn't come roaring out of the chutes either, I thought, Screw it - I'll make y'all go back and read the long one. So thanks for humoring me.

Congrats to Kristof and Rick, who deserve all the kudos they get for their consistently funny, clever, highly polished work.

And kudos to Rex for his lovely ode to the SOTM, done to the tune of the old Purina Cat Chow commercial. 555!

Drinks are on me.
