Subject: January SOTM Entries

Written By: Cat on 01/31/06 at 12:07 pm

I thought I would start this month's SOTM thread, since I've been DYING to enter it for the first time. (I literally was counting down the days...this once again proves that I have no life. ::))

~~Entries begin after the last parody update of the month.

~~Any song first appearing at AmiRight during the contest month (this year) is eligible.

~~To enter, reply to this thread with the url of your entry.

~~On the eighth day of the month, entries close and voting begins.

~~Vote by replying to voting thread with your five favorites in order:
Top choice gets 5 points, next gets 4 points and so on to 1 point for your fifth favourite.

~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.

~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.

~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.

~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest past or present may vote.

~~By entering, you are agreeing to read and comment on all the other entries and vote.

~~Anyone who enters but does not both comment on all entries and vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.

~~When the new month begins, the first person to enter the next contest may copy this message and start the new entry thread with it.

Here's my entry, "Gee, George Dubya Bushy":

http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/westsidestorysoundtrack5.shtml

Oh, and by the way, in my search for an MP3 of this song for those who DKTOS, to quote the Stones, I tried and I tried and I tried and I tried...but I still couldn't find a decent one! (and I didn't get any satisfaction, either.) The only one I found had the crappiest sound quality you could ever imagine, probably because it was a live recording. Now, I do have my own copy of the track, but I haven't figured out a way to post it online yet. If anyone would be willing to do that, I'd gladly email it to you!

Can you rip it on your hardrive via a media player?

Once you do that, you can do this, but be aware that it only works for 7 seven days after its posted (so timing is a factor)---

Go to yousendit.com, paste the mp3 as the item to send to your e-mail address, then send it. You will recieve the URL in your own e-mail, then you can paste the URL here.

For Agrimorfee and others who don't can't locate a MP3 or equivalent available for their entries:

Check AltaVistas search engine:

http://www.altavista.com/audio/default

I d/l the right copy of Bittersweet Symphony at the start of Jan. That link seems to be a 404 now but there is another copy I found that is acceptable:

http://www.illegal-art.org/audio/liner.html

Sometimes if you search the video you can find a song that isn't available as a MP3 and the d/l doesn't take that long on dial up.

I've only done 4 parodies this month, but here's (what I think is) my best:

Jesus 'I Am' Phrases

It's a parody of Linkin Park's 'Faint'. It's my parodeity. And because I'm nice here's an mp3:

Damn the fact that I'm 14 and you guys are so OLD!

It's true, you know. Thankfully there's an exception: iisryan.

Since the contest will take place during Feb, the results will turn up around the 3rd of March. If I win, it'll be a wonderful birthday pressie! :)

I want to clarify that my PC time is somewhat limited at the office. I take a risk just coming here throughout the day, so sometimes finding an mp3 is just not feasible beyond an initial google search.

Thanks for your efforts, Red! :)

Red Ant, I DID already check AltaVista...that's where I found the really crappy live recording. There was one other one, linked off a Russian site of all places, but it didn't work on my computer.

Oh, and ThaConqueror, we're not all fogies. I'm 15. :)

http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/science/02/09/egypt.mummies.reut/index.html

CAIRO, Egypt (Reuters) -- An American team has found what appears to be an intact tomb in the Valley of the Kings, the first found in the valley since that of Tutankhamun in 1922, one of the archaeologists said on Thursday.

The tomb contains five or six mummies in intact sarcophagi from the late 18th dynasty, about the same period as Tutankhamun, but the archaeologists have not yet had the time or the access to identify them, the archaeologist added.

The 18th dynasty ruled Egypt from 1567 BC to 1320 BC, a period during which the country's power reached a peak.

The Valley of the Kings in southern Egypt contains the tombs of most of the pharaohs of the time but the archaeologist said the mummies in the newly found tomb need not be royal.

"There are lots of non-royal tombs in the valley. It wouldn't be the only one by any means," said the archaeologist, who asked not to be named because the Egyptian authorities are planning a media event at the site on Friday.

"The archaeologists haven't been inside properly yet. It's very small and cramped but it is late 18th dynasty," she added.

A statement from the government's Supreme Council of Antiquities said the tomb was found by a team from the University of Memphis in the United States.

The five sarcophagi, which are carved to human form, have colored funerary masks and the tomb contains a large number of big storage jars, the statement said.

"For an unknown reason they were buried rapidly in the small tomb," it added.

The tomb, 5 km (three miles) from that of Tutankhamun, was covered with the rubble of workmen's huts dating from the latter part of the 19th dynasty, more than 100 years after the tomb was sealed, it said.

If you have the space on your hard drive, download a free media player such as Windows Media Player, the one that my IT dept. so kindly installed on my PC. http://www.freedownloadhq.com/Media-Player.html

After you are all set up, there should be one button to click to take you through the steps. (at least my Windows MP does). I am not a techie guy--this is a process easier done than said (if you can understand what I mean:)). Maybe someone here can talk you through it better than me.

Um, you got the link wrong. You've typed in the HTML code for Amiright.com. inthe00's.com has a different code. You simply type 'url' in these brackets [] then the website name. Then straight after you type /] then a descriptive name (in your case "Game Boy") then . Hopefully, that will be of some help, Mr Power.

Written By: Silver Power on 02/04/06 at 6:28 am

Oops! I did it again! Well, I typed that because that not only is the AmIRight HTML code, but that is it for most of the web...Okay, let's try this again...

...I've modified about 10 times, and I followed the steps, and it all went wrong, but it could be because I'm just an idiot.

So, the link is http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/queen288.shtml and the name of the parody is Game Boy.

And, once again, I believe someone else said this in the December SOTM contest, but I don't really much care if I win, I just want to have some constructive criticism...

Hello Seamonkey. January SOTM entries start ~Feb 1st for parodies entered in January. The ones you put up are Feb dated so you'll have to wait until the Feb SOTM thread comes up around the first of March. That is, unless you have one that was posted to AmIRIght in January 2005.

I hope to see you in Feb SOTM, great recording and parody of "Bullet With Butterfly Wings".
