Subject: May SOTM Voting Thread: Results Posted!

Written By: Red Ant on 06/08/06 at 6:24 am

Note to new participants: Welcome, and good luck. Please read all guidelines carefully. Especially, please make sure to read all the entries and vote by the end of the month. The SOTM is not so much a contest as a feedback exchange. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, either in this thread or via personal message. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

~~Vote by replying to this thread with your five favorites in order:
1st choice- 5 points
2nd place- 4 points
3rd place- 3 points
4th place- 2 points
5th place- 1 point.

~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.

~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.

~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.

~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.

~~By entering, you are agreeing to read and comment on all the other entries and vote.

~~Anyone who enters but does not both comment on all entries and vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.

~~In the event of a tie, the parody with the most first place votes wins.
If it's still tied, the parody with the most second place votes wins.
If it's still tied, a brief playoff round will be held.
All participants will have the first week of the month to choose one favorite from among the tied entries.
Tiebreaker voting is strongly encouraged but not required. On the eighth day the one with the most votes win.

I have eight parodies that I want in the Top Five, so this is gonna be a toughie.  :-\\

I'm gonna have to think about this for a while, and I'll post when I have a final decision.

Alrighty! This is my last SOTM for a while, and this may be the reason why (besides the fact that I have just completed Nickelodeon Idiot): It's almost impossible to narrow down so many great parodies into a Top Five, let alone a winner.

Bubbling Under
A Parodist's Dilemma by Cat (Very clever rhymes and near-perfect pacing)
Battle Hymn of the Darwin Awards by Red Ant (Proof that people do the stupidest things for an award)
Wannabemustangjockey's Song (This song is quite hilarious; my Top Five wasn't big enough)
Chia Pests by Johnny D (Geat idea, brilliant execution)
Tax Too Much by Pete Andersson (Let's face it, AC/DC rocks!  8))

And now, the part that really matters, the part that determines the champine!

The Top Five
1 point.... The Nintendo-Wii-Sounds-Stupid Song by conqueror
Let's face it, the SOTM is rarely, if ever, big enough for two Major-General parodies.

2 Points... Sixteen Ones by Matthias
What else can I say but wow.  :o  ;D

3 Points... Film.cliche.fan Rhapsody by Stu
Nothing like I expected... it was even better! This parody was not the cliche' BoRap parody... and yet it was  ;)

4 Points... Undead by the Bite by Phil Alexander
One monster of a song to tackle!  ;D Perfect for Mother's Day. (Sorry, that's the only May joke I could think of)

5 Points....

Grand-Man Titsoes by Johnny D

LMAO!!!  ;D One of those great parodies that only come around once in a great while. And plus, it's (correct me if I'm wrong!) the first Amiright parody ever about man-boobies!  ;D

Good luck to everybody! :) See ya when I'm ready for another one!

Thanx man! So does that mean you think that my M-G parody is better than wannabemustangjockey's? Just wondering, because of what you wrote underneath.

Well...I was delayed not once but TWICE from voting, the first time when my mom caught me judging at midnight last night, and the second time when I had to go volunteer at a book sale today. But now I've finished. And I must say this was by far THE hardest month I have judged so far, with several last-minute changes, and there are still ones I wish I could include...why can't we pick 10, dammit?! Almost everyone did excellently this month.

5 Points to Red Ant
4 Points to K1chyd
3 Points to Phil Alexander
2 Points to Stu McArthur
1 Point to Rick Cormier

The wieners are:

5pts=Chris Bodily TM. This is his honor for the Nickelodeon Idiot song cycle. Remember how Lord of The Rings won Best Oscar for the 3rd film? It's just like that. I hope more votes will come his way--he worked hard and very carefully on this magnum opus. I was happy to have helped along the way and see so many elements come together. What will he follow up this masterpiece with? Whatever it is, "it's gonna be huge!"  ;D

4pts=Rick Cormier
3pts=Cat
2pts=Stu M.
1pt=Johnny D.

Rock on.

After attempting, and failing, to re-write the laws of mathematics to allow 9 entries into 5 spots, here are my votes:

5 points to #2:  Chia Pests by Rick Cormier
4 points to #17: Undead By The Bite by Phil Alexander
3 points to #15: Grand Man-Titsoes by Johnny D
2 points to #4:  My Fav'rite Colleagues by Arwen
1 point to  #16: Film.cliche.fan Rhapsody by Stuart McArthur

Excellent parodies all around this month.

You're absolutely right, Agri. I checked what Rick said. I do know what a parody is (duh), I do know the original song (thanx 2 www.youtube.com it's a wonderful site filled with video clips), but I have no idea what a Chia Pet is. Maybe it's because I'm 15. Maybe it's because I'm an idiot. Maybe it's both :P.

bobpiecheese, I apologize for blowing up at you. As I mentioned, I was docked anonymously a couple of SOTM rounds ago for pacing, for no apparent reason and. I thought you were questioning what the parody was about, not what chias are about. This link will tell you all you need to know about chia pets:

http://www.chia.com/chia.html.

The ones I based my parody on are the "Famous Chias", pottery that looks like cartoon characters. You are a good writer and, I have enjoyed reading your work. I just felt you were taking pot shots at mine. I, and I'm sure, the others in SOTM, would appreciate your rating my parody though. It is considered a common courtesy around here. Again, I'm sorry for misinterpreting your comment and, I thank you for the points you gave me.

These are my picks for this month:

5 points  Red Ant- I couldn't decide between Jack and Phil but, in the end, I though this one was funnier.
4 points  Phil Alexander- Masterfully written, excellent idea and, to an extremely tough OS.
3 points  Stuart McArthur- Another brilliant idea and masterful execution.
2 points  Johnny D- You crack me up, dude! When I first saw the title, I knew it would be great.
1 point    Arwen- Another excellent parody from the reigning queen.

As usual, there are too many that deserve points and don't get them. Good luck!

5 Points: "Battle Hymn of the Darwin Awards" by Red Ant
With "Overplayed" and "Dicken, my dog" our own Jack here could have had three songs on the list in this round, must have been a tough choice to have such a "problem".

4 Points: "Chia Pests" by Rick Cormier
I learned about Chia Pets from a parody here on Amiright so I have a special relation to them, don't remember if it was by Guy DiRito or Malcolm Higgins or both, but who cares, this one sweeps the floor with all previous.

3 Points: "Grand Man-Titsoes" by Johnny D
One of my favourite 60s songs and an all original parody subject, what's not to love here?

2 Points: "Film.cliche.fan Rhapsody" by Stuart McArthur
If this becomes a SOTM box office hit, will there be a "Film.cliche.fan Rhapsody 2"?

1 Point: "50 Ways to Love Your Liver" by Rex Ungericht
Someone has got to love liver, or is it just me?

And this month's special kudos goes out to those introspective parodies about writing parodies. I've seen too many to wanna vote for them, even submitted ones myself (so yes, I'm a hypocrite) but this time they were better than usual, still that had to be one of my sorting criterions since its hard enough to narrow this list down to five anyway.

Well done Rick & Red Ant - and Stu, too... speaking as someone who's just come on top in third place on equal votes rather than pipped to fourth (for a change), in some ways I preferred it the other way round:  there's a bit of a guilty feeling that the song didn't deserve it; but when you're in fourth, you can get that sense of "well, it desered better"... if you see what I mean :)

Well-deserved, Rick - a very funny song all the way through.

Also well-deserved, Mr Ant (can I call you "Red"?) - that one had a satirical bite that made it that bit special for me.

Congrats to all three four letter word/name medalists (Rick, Jack and Phil), maybe if my name had been Pete and not Peter...

An impressive win for Rick, especially since more than one reader had to ask what a Chia Pet is. Maybe we're moving away from the usual handful of boobie themed parodies to more obscure themes for a while. Hmmm... what typical Scandinavian traits (obscure to the rest of the world) haven't I covered yet... cloudberry liquor... midnight poontang under the northern light and/or midnight sun... selling elk poop to Japaniese tourists as aphrodisiacs... polar bear wrestling by the local mall dumpsters... :P

Well, that sucked. Oh, well. My fault (AGAIN) for choosing such an obscure topic. Next month might go a bit better, as I chose a more well-known OS (though I still provided an OS, just for those who don't leave their computer except to sleep and don't listen to the radio :P :P :P), and a topic closer to our parodist hearts. In English, it's about those songs that are misattributed to Weird Al. And it's to James Blunt's 'You're Beautiful'. Wish me luck!

I thank all who voted for the shallow end of the gene pool, too. I was a bit shocked the day it came out that it didn't go over better; I think every other parody I posted in May gained more attention opening day. But I'm most pleased to have come in second in this round, one of the toughest SOTMs I've ever been in.

//don't worry, Red Ant, you'll get yours someday!

Thanks Peter, though I'm pretty much retiring "song satires" for SOTM, and "Dicken, My Dog", well, I don't think that one was quite long enough to do well in SOTM. Rest assured that with only 4 parodies submitted in June I don't have that "problem" this month.

PS to Peter: Love the new avatar. Don't change it, and pray that Step-chan doesn't see it, heh heh.

Thanks, Jack. I didn't realize until I read Cat's comment, that you haven't taken a first place yet. Well, the way you've been writing, it won't be long in coming. Thank you for your dedication to this site, your inspiration to me and your kind words.

I wrote a few months ago that Jack had to be the most improved author on this site. He has only gotten better since I made that comment.

I agree.  Worrying, isn't it ;)

Thank you, Phil. Your "Undead by the Bite" is a brilliant write.

You commented on Red Ant's parody that it is your choice for SOTY so far. I would have to agree with you. I wrote a few months ago that Jack had to be the most improved author on this site. He has only gotten better since I made that comment.

Wow, you guys are laying it on thick, and I'm feeling it, heh heh. The pressure is solely on me, especially for July seeing as how I haven't written a single line in 2 weeks. I've a feeling that's about to change though.....

As for SOTY, I'm truly floored by both of your comments. However, there's a lot of Y left to go, and some darned fined parodies already in SOTY to compete against, including both your entries this month. And Kristof's writing again (gulp!).

Thanks, Jack. I didn't realize until I read Cat's comment, that you haven't taken a first place yet. Well, the way you've been writing, it won't be long in coming.

I did get one in the ABC X round, and also the Bad Song Competition, but to gold medal in SOTM would be sweet.

Thank you for your dedication to this site, your inspiration to me and your kind words.

You're welcome.  Hey, "Dedicated" might make for a good "Complicated" parody. I'd probably be the first ever to parody that song.  ;D
