DECATHLON EVENT 6:

TOPIC: Working For The Man

GENRE: Country

http://www.ezprezzo.com/crazypics/crazysports16.jpg

THE RULES

~~Entry URLs to be posted onto this thread from the Amiright site

~~Entries must conform to both the topic and genre specifications...if in doubt, ask.

~~On the 23rd October, entries close and voting begins.

~~Vote by replying to voting thread with your five favorites in order:
Top choice gets 5 points, next gets 4 points and so on to 1 point for your fifth favourite.

~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.

~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.

~~Voting continues until the 6th of November.

~~By entering, you are agreeing to read and comment on all the other entries and vote.

~~Anyone who enters but does not both comment on all entries and vote by the deadline is disqualified and may not participate in the next event.

~~If you miss a submission deadline, you will not be entered in that event, but WILL be allowed to enter the next event.
However, there will STILL be an expectation that you comment and vote in the event you are not participating in, unless you have a valid reason for not being able to.

~Rule changes may be suggested by any participant in their entry post.  Changes are made only when a majority of that event's voters specify a "yes" vote along with their contest votes.

SCORING: Unlike PAOTY, scores for each Decathlon event are not cumulative. The winner of each event gets 9 Decathlon points, 2nd gets 8 and so on. This should make the contest very close throughout the next 20 weeks.
A Leaderboard will be posted after the first event

HAVE FUN!!!!!!

My kinda round, this one will be great for me!

This is definetely NOT my round, in ANY way.

One, I can't identify with 'working for the man' because I don't work.

Two, I don't know any country artists.

Three, my dad would KILL me if he found out I was doing a country song, because he HATES country.

I think you'll be able to rise to the challenge, bob!

1) Even though you don't work...I'm sure you know people who do; you also probably have ambitions to work one day: write about that!

2) I bet you 20 bucks you know at least ONE country song well enough to recognise the tune, and one country artist...Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Billy Ray Cyrus, Leean Rimes, John Denver....

Country songs - I must have two dozen of them - just pick one and twist the theme into work-related - this'll be a cinch

*checks*

not a one!

but I agree with Kristof, bobpie - it's a huge marketplace in which to shop, and pretty easy songs to parody too, I'm guessing, with their wordy long lines and easy rhymes - can't believe I haven't indulged before  http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/07/partytime.gif

I would do "Secretary" to "Who's Your Daddy" by Toby Keith, but... Heh, heh... Let's just say too bad Whatfreaks isn't around anymore

I'll submit "Take This Job And Shove It" to Johnny Paycheck's "Take This Job And Shove It"

(don't worry - I'll change one word in the second verse to avoid plagiarising 8))

Or how about "9 to 5" to Dolly Parton's "9 to 5"

Call me quick on the trigger, but "I Have No Career" is going through it's final cleaning stages as we speak.... It should be up Thursday

And a shout out goes to Red Ant for help with the idea...

I'll take that suggestion...I'll turn LeAnn Rimes' (that's how you spell it) 'Life Goes On' (I'm lucky enough to have it on one of my many So Fresh compilations...not that I want it there) into 'Work Must Bomb', written from the perspective of a kid reflecting on other peoples' experiences of work...and comes to the conclsion that work sucks - which it does :P.

Okay, I'm still not 100% sure if this is what I'm going to settle on...but if you don't hear from me again before the deadline, consider my entry to be "Workin' Girl Blues."

Sorry mine will be in so late, but my little brother left the Xbox unpacked for the squillionth time in a row, so all of us dipped out on Xbox AND the Internet. So mine will probably be in last.

Oh, and it's now a parody of 'Ring Of Fire' called 'Should Retire', okay?

And also:

Enjoy!
