Subject: October SOTM Voting Thread; Results Posted

Written By: Red Ant on 11/08/06 at 6:17 am

Note to new participants: Welcome, and good luck. Please read all guidelines carefully. Especially, please make sure to read all the entries and vote by the end of the month. The SOTM is not so much a contest as a feedback exchange. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, either in this thread or via personal message. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

~~Vote by replying to this thread with your five favorites in order:
1st choice- 5 points
2nd place- 4 points
3rd place- 3 points
4th place- 2 points
5th place- 1 point.

~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.

~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.

~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.

~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.

~~By entering, you are agreeing to read and comment on all the other entries and vote.

~~Anyone who enters but does not both comment on all entries and vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.

~~In the event of a tie, the parody with the most first place votes wins.
If it's still tied, the parody with the most second place votes wins.
If it's still tied, a brief playoff round will be held.
All participants will have the first week of the month to choose one favorite from among the tied entries.
Tiebreaker voting is strongly encouraged but not required. On the eighth day the one with the most votes win.

I'm more than halfway through this list, so it should be tomorrow or the next day before I make up my mind. Don't worry, I'm still on it. Great entries so far.

Again, good luck to everybody! :)

Edit: I ran out of time today, so I will read the last five parodies and make my decision tomorrow, unless something comes up.

Thanks for the 4 pts, n00b! ;-)

TMGLTM means Too Many Good (or Great) Lines To Mention....one of the highest Amiright accolades.

You can use <br> HTML, which gives you a line break

3 bigamist alien nazis cheating on their spouses with vaccum cleaners coming Stuart's way for "I'm Jerry Springer - I'm A Rotten Ole Man".

2 full inboxes coming 2nz's way for "Office Work (We Don't Care)"

The sacrifices I make for this competition: I'm currently in the hotel lobby having to listen to ****ing Christmas muzak because I get no signal in my room... I mean, it's not even December yet.  I'm very tempted to tell 'em I'm not going to stay here again because of that (ignoring that I'm probably not going to be staying here again 'cause it's my last bit of work in the area).  Anyway, to the results from the Alexander jury:

5 points - #17: Nothin' Sells Like The Holy Spirit! by Kristof Robertson
4 points - #9: The Zipper Took It All by Peter Andersson a.k.a K!chyd
3 points - #8: They-Didn't-Like-My-Song-Spoof Blues by Michael McVey
2 points - #10: Office Work (We Don't Care) by 2nz

...with honourable mentions to Red Ant, Tim and Jeff.  Sorry, guys.

2 points: #11: "Halloween" by Jack Wilson <---- JUN-IOR MINTS!!!

3 points: #3: "Death's Ballad" by The Charnstar <---- This one killed me

4 points: #9: "The Zipper Took It All" by Peter Andersson a.k.a K!chyd <---- He made me feel his pain, the bastard

5 points: #7: "Prove Yourself" by Red Ant <---- He proved himself

I felt biased towards awesome Disney parodies this month, so I couldn't vote for Phil.

I decided to be a non-conformist (like Agri and Kristof so far) and not vote for Kristof.

And I currently HAVE NO CAREER, so Matt, if you don't mind, can I go ahead and use your parody as a reference list when purusing the want ads?

I had fun. Thank you all for an awesome return month.

5 pts - Kristof's preaching Visa
4 pts - Peter's zip of destiny

2 pts - Phil's Extreme Makeover
1 pt - Matthias' occupation desperation

Wowsers! Thanks to everyone who supported my cynical little religious rant....I'm really grateful for your votes and comments.

Congrats to Peter and Glen for 2 outstanding, funny-as-all-get-out pieces...well done, guys! And I'd like to say a big "welcome back" to Glen, whose wit has been sorely missed.

As for Charnstar's request for a recording...let's just say that I'm right in the middle of putting this one together...and, if I do say so myself, it's gonna be a DOOZY, and not at all what you may be expecting.... :D

CHEERS, Y'ALL!

Wow, you guys just made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, almost a whole month ahead of the mandatory feel-so Christmas schedule, without me being intoxicated on cloudberry liquor, and before I have even picked out this years rocket launcher to aim at the jolly fat reindeer tormentor in the sky! Thank you, thank you all! :)

With my present schedule I had pretty much given up on all chances of writing something good enough for a medal this year, but apparently I accidentally cut into good old form without even realising it until the votes started dripping in. Now if I could only get a visit from the testicle fairy (Unless that happens to be Elton John) and my muse back it'll be both a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Thanks again! :)

And Congratulations to Kristof, very deserving of his top seat, and his current spike in cash-flow.

Congratulations, condemnations and donations to (Over)Lord Kristof for his dominating win this month - I think this is the first time an alternative/grunge song gold medalled in SOTM, and I'm happy to see that happen. Great work my friend.

Congratulations, coagulation, and an all-expenses-paid visit to any one of John Wayne Bobitt's "Recontruct-A-Peen" clinics for Peter. IMHO, your parody made the best use of an OS in this month's competition.

Congratulations, an employee-of-the-month parking space, and a lifetime supply of paperclips goes out to Glen for his hard and funny work on a what has been a "staple" song in SOTM competition this year.

It's great to see two more authors take their first trip to the podium this year, too. At this rate we might not even need a wildcard round.

And a big thanks to all who voted for my parody. Feeling a bit of deja vu at the moment, since in March I finished 4th, two points behind Stu's "Please Invest!" parody.

I just read the comments under my entry this month; I'll thank you guys later on there as well, but wow, some killer praise/compliments, as well as some confusion as to the point/direction of the parody. Since it won't be in SOTY voting, I can let the cat out of the bag now. For some time, I've considered retiring from writing as I've done all the songs I wish to do. "Prove Yourself" was ambitious only in the sense that, IMO, the only thing lacking from my catalogue was a decent rap parody*. So, I set out to prove to myself that I could not only do one, but a hard one, and nail it from a technical aspect, which I achieved. I was hoping it might become a bit of an anthem or inspirational piece for another author someday; whether or not that happens is beyond my control, but that was the main angle I was shooting for.

*Of course, later I realized I also hadn't done a "list"-type song or a parody of a parody, so Tom Lehrer's "The Elements" helped me with both of those.

Enough about me already. Although I said I wouldn't update PAotY until after the Wild Card round was over, I have done so since there have been quite a few position shifts, not the least of which is for the lead. That thread has also been unlocked.

Congratulations to Kristof again for being the first to gold twice this year (and the comments he got indicated his win was always going to be a tearaway one)

and well done Peter and welcome back 2nz for their two beautifully-crafted pieces

and commiserations Jack, but don't start getting those giving-up ideas okay - we all get them but they amazingly and curiously somehow disappear over time (with me at least) - your next praody should be "Push Yourself" ;)

"Push Yourself", set to "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"

Push, push, push yourself
Hard as you can go
Parody, parody, parody, parody
Easy songs that blow!

There, that took about a minute to write, or 1/5400th the time "Prove Yourself" did.

Kristof is always a safe bet. Still, on almost a daily basis, I pat myself on the back for calling that contest three weeks before entries even started. I'm obviously psycho. I mean psychic.
