Subject: AmIRight All Request Hour

Written By: Cat on 03/03/07 at 10:36 pm

I originally was going to launch this like a proper contest, but I've decided to make it a bit simpler.

On this thread, you can just request OSes that you'd like to see a certain parodist do. Any parodist (as long as they're an active participant) and any OS is up for grabs, and deadlines are unlimited for creativity's sake, but if your parodist doesn't follow through in say, a month, you have every right to give them a little virtual "kick" as a reminder. I'd suggest that the requests be fairly spread-out among parodists since no one parodist is bogged down (we all know how bad that is) but there's no really strict rule about it. It's not so much a contest as a project to see what you can do with a specific OS, a bit like Tomario's Great Parody Challenge, only any of us can pick and choose. For all we know, we could be producing some of our best work through this. Not to mention that it's an excellent cure for writer's block!

I myself have one I've been itching to request for weeks, but I'll wait for a bit of feedback before I reveal it. ;) What do you guys think?

Oh, and I'm going to be participating in this too. Hit me with yer best shot!

Okay, Cat ... write a parody of Bob Dylan's song, "Desolation Row".

Okay, Johnny D... write a parody of any Eminem song (intros and skits are excluded). Major bonus points if you choose "Sing For The Moment"

Can't wait to see what I get, heh heh.

Great idea for a contest. I had discussed just such a thing with Peter Andersson quite a while back, but the "contest" portion was the hang up. By making this more a "free for all", you've eliminated that problem.

I would ask that one rule be included: no giving of insane instrumentals as challenges.

Johnny D: I kinda assumed that by issuing a challenge you are also going to be an active participant.

ARGH. I remember when you told me that, JD. And I've tried (and failed) to do Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again. But I'll try it! *gulp*...At least know I actually know the OS. I've gotten quite into Dylan over the past few months.

By the way, these don't have to be really nasty OSes. Just anything you'd like to see.

Anyway, what I was going to say earlier is that I'm dying to see Stu McArthur parody "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush. I've gotten quite familiar with that song since I had to read the book for English (and contrary to my classmates, I actually rather liked it) and it totally seems like his type of song, in the way that there's lots of potential for random capitalized words, and there can be many amusing title subs. One I came up with is "Blubbering Frights," don't know what that would refer to, though.

Never done before; it would be a first submission. As you probably already know, the rhymes are beyond nuts.

Hmmm. . .how to put this on the organizing thread. . I'll put it as ongoing challenge thread. . .great idea Cat (Karma for you)

It's added to the mix on the organizing thread. . .this is almost scary from a performer's perspective. . .but the good thing is I'm new, so I would be low on the totem pole. . . :)  I won't go to far, but I'd like to see what Matthias can do with "Material Girl"

Anyway, what I was going to say earlier is that I'm dying to see Stu McArthur parody "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush.

I am honored that you would request me Cat, and I shall endeavour not to let you down

in fact I've loved that OS from the moment I saw a 10-second preview on Aussie TV News of the new Number 1 song in England "Wuthering Heights" by newcomer teenager Kate Bush, and I had also just read and loved the book, and couldn't wait to hear the song in full.  When I did, and saw the clip, I was in awe, and have loved it ever since.  I've also parodied it before, in an Aussie Rules Football context about Wayne Carey ("Eighteen" was the sub for "Cathy") but the singer I wrote it for didn't think it was as brilliant as I did, so it went nowhere

anyway, great idea for a comp/challenge Cat, and I like the no-time-limits aspect, so I'm onto it.

I'd like to see Phil do "Hit The Road Jack" - which was my submission for tomario's contest, but it was never done.  I'm choosing Phil because that OS gave me a heck of a hard time, and it's the sort of densely-paced wordplay song that Phil is a master at, going by his See My Chest and his MMG atheism parody and his parody of "Blinded By The Light" which I still can't even get to first base on

Yaaagh! You're pulling me in all different directions!

But anyway, I think I'm ready to do Desolation Row. I've even come up with a title, "More Relations? No!" about a soon-to-be-married couple and all of the husband's crazy relatives that the wife would rather not want to see.

Hell, that was over five years ago... but I have a couple of ideas which might work.  Offhand, I can't think of any songs to request somebody else have a crack at, but I'll have a think.

QUAY CUR by The Fiery Furnaces.
d'l for free here http://www.mystrands.com/track/3315646
or play via Rhapsody http://play.rhapsody.com/thefieryfurnaces/blueberryboat/quaycur?didAutoplayBounce=true

I had a locket
A little silver charm
Given to me so to keep me out of harm
Canvasing the quay side trying to earn my keep
A killick tore it off my neck and threw it in the deep

And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again
And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again
And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again

Up to the quarantine, late night aboard
Try to raise our fees but we get what they afford
Busy work below deck according to form
Waiting for the clear to leave but then comes up a storm

We hid beneath the barrels of blubber hoping that the rain had passed
But when the wind kept up the rats cut down the rigging off the mast
And then the rust chewed through the anchor chain and out to sea we're cast

The clouds dried and cracked
It was calm and in fact
The ship had been towed
By sea Dyaks towed

So we're sold Kolaba
And sent, I let out a sob
A cry oh no it's disaster
T-Ranter Bay Madagascar.

Great gulps of Greek fire get us in
Sling sticks at the stockade Fort Dauphin
A guardsman gave a griffin said grease my duke
Down by the chimney and out through the fluke

A looby, a lordant, a lagerhead, lozel
A lungio lathback made me a proposal
Straight sail, top mast, astrolabe prospected
Down in his dry dock erected infected

Mocked up with silk strings and taffeta tricked
With nails out of driftwood already iron sicked
Now spy out the glass at whatever missteps me
Aand the press gang warrant's signed Sir Edward Pepsi

Course it wasn't long till I caught the croup
Dawding on the drizzy deck of my majesty's sloop
If only the helmsman would turn from his whip staff
With my azimuth compass I'd go by the hectograph

Up to the whaling fleet in Gilbert sound
Then back in the hull when we come around
With one hundred seals and two polar bears
Nearly in the harbor without any cares

But then
A looby, a lordant, a lagerhead, lozel
A lungio lathback made me a proposal
Straight sail, top mast, astrolabe prospected
Down in his dry dock erected infected

Mocked up with silk strings and taffeta tricked
With nails out of driftwood already iron sicked
Now spy out the glass at whatever missteps me
And the press gang warrant's signed Sir Edward Pepsi

Half-hour sandglass
Seven saker round shot
Ice for the moonshine
And chichsaneg

Canyglow, canyglow, canyglow don't say nugo
Tie tight my sugnacoon
In comes the tucktodo
Aba in aob aginyoh.

Look awennye
Get out my sawygmeg
Yliaout, yliaout
Weave us on shore

Unuiche quoysah
Maconmeg
And I gave a sasobneg.

Canyglow, canyglow, canyglow don't say nugo
Tie tight my sugnacoon
In comes the tucktodo
Aba in aob aginyoh. Half hour sandglass
Seven saker round shot
Ice for the moonshine
And "chichsaneg"

](this is a translation of the above 4 stanzas)
Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, don't say no
Tie tight my coat
In comes the fog
Fallen down in the sea, go fetch

Look yonder
Get out my knife
I mean no harm, I mean no harm
Weave us on shore

Give it, give it to me
Will you have
And I gave a bracelet

Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, don't say no
Tie tight my coat
In comes the fog
Fallen down in the sea, go fetch

And now we live by muskles, water weeds with small relief in store
And all the sick men in the Galean were then put upon the shore
And on the twenty second we didn't see our general any more.

Down came our trestle-trees, no pitch tar or nails
Fore shrouds break no rope we trust
Only shift of sails

Drink my Rosa Solis, struck suddenly ahull
Yield ourselves we spoomed, my sinews stiff
My eyes were dull

And as we pass the equinoctial only five of us could stand
And while the capsten without sheets or tacks by all of us was manned
And on the eleventh day of June ran in at Barehaven to land
And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again
And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again
And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again

I see that issuing two challenges doesn't seem to be against the rules... matter of fact, there doesn't seem to be any rules!

So, I challenge you to parody "Locomotive" by Guns 'N Roses.

The lyrics are here.

And, I happened to find a YouTube video for the song as well:

(ignore the narration at the beginning and end: that's not in the song)

Should be a cakewalk for someone who has done nasty raps and TWOTEF.  ;)

I had a working title called "Neo's Motives" about the Matrix trilogy for that song: use it if you want.

The contest is unlimited time, but exceeding 3 months IMO should be grounds for being pwned!

As for topics, just brainstorm as many words that have the same syllabic emphasis as "Locomitive" as you can.

e.g.:

Diarrhea
Gonorrhea
Choke a hostess
Hocus Pocus

and so on.

I've got two decent titles for my challenge.. it's just a matter of writing down lyrics more nutzo than an average rap... and vary the umpteen kajillion choruses in the song... and figure out how to format it so people can follow it...  ;)

Thanks Kristof!  ;D

Okay, since my first request has been fulfilled, here's another one I've always wanted to see.

Spaff, if you're reading this...do We Didn't Start The Fire already!!

Like Kristof, I am not one to walk away from a challenge. I am one to run, however. If I got challenged with that longass weirdass Agrimorfee thing, for example, I'd already be halfway to the border.

"We Didn't Start the Fire," eh, Caitie? Yikes. I think a bigger challenge than actually writing that will be coming up with a decent concept for it that hasn't already been done. But OK, if there's no time limit, you're on. I just don't want anyone bugging me for a status report anytime before 2008.

Agri, you gave out a seafaring indie band to Kristof, so I'm giving you a different seafaring indie band in return!
I present to you "The Mariner's Revenge Song" by The Decemberists: (who I'm seeing live two weeks from today!!)
Listen to the OS here: http://itsundertherotunda.blogspot.com/2007/03/decemberists-20.html

Lyrics:
We are two mariners
Our ship's sole survivors
In this belly of a whale
Its ribs are ceiling beams
Its guts are carpeting
I guess we have some time to kill...

You may not remember me
I was a child of three
And you a lad of eighteen
But I remember you
And I will relate to you
How our histories interweave

At the time you were a rake and a roustabout
Spending all your money on the wh*res and hounds

You had a charming air
All cheap and debonair
My widowed mother found so sweet
And so she took you in
Her sheets still warm with him
Now filled with filth and foul disease

As time wore on, you proved a debt-ridden, drunken mess
Leaving my mother a poor consumptive wretch

And then you disappeared
Your gambling arrears
The only thing you left behind
And then the magistrate
Reclaimed our small estate
And my poor mother lost her mind

Then one day in spring, my dear sweet mother died
But before she did, I took her hand as she, dying, cried

"Find him, bind him,
Tie him to a pole and break his fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he wakes up, naked,
Clawing at the ceiling of his grave!"

It took me fifteen years
To swallow all my tears
Among the urchins in the street
Until a friary
Took pity and hired me
To keep their vestry nice and neat

But never once in the employ of these holy men
Did I ever once turn my mind from the thought of REVENGE!

One night I overheard
The prior exchanging words
With a penitent whaler from the sea
The captain of his ship
Who matched you toe to tip
Was known for wanton cruelty

The following day I shipped to sea with a privateer
And in the whistle of the wind I could almost hear...

"Find him, bind him,
Tie him to a pole and break his fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he wakes up, naked,
Clawing at the ceiling of his grave!"

"There is one thing I must say to you
As you sail across the sea:
Always your mother will watch over you
As you avenge this wicked deed..."

And then that fateful night
We had you in eyesight
After twenty months at sea
Your starboard flank, abeam
I was getting my muskets clean
When came this rumbling from beneath...

The ocean shook, the sky went black and the captain quailed
And before us grew the angry jaws of a giant WHALE!

Don't know how I survived
The crew all was chewed alive
I must have slipped between his teeth
But oh, what providence
What divine intelligence
That you should survive as well as me!

It gives my heart great joy to see your eyes fill with fear
So lean in close and I will whisper the last words you'll hear!

Have fun. ;D

Maybe do a topic about something that is so unlikely to happen that it would be the end of the world. Such as a Chicago Cubs World Series win  ;D(but that has been done on a local Chicago radio station).

I used to think daylight savings time in Indiana was such an event, but that started last year. Then there was lights in Wrigley Field and the two Sox teams winning the World Series....

Write a song making fun of the people who believes in 9/11 conspiracy. Best if you try it with an Eminem song.

Now, granted, this isn't a very hard OS in the slightest...but now I have a sudden desire to see what Kristof could do with "I Touch Myself" by the Divinyls.

I haven't checked in here a while, but you're on, Cat! (I love this OS)

He still owes me "Quay Cur"...let him be.  ;D

I'm about 2/3 of the way through, Agri (ya bass turd ;))

Has the valiant Stu ever let the fair maiden Cat down?

I accept your challenge and I'm on my horse and away

I shall return with yon parody at my earliest opportunity - Tally Ho!

and in return, fair Cat, I withdraw my challenge to Phil, and instead thrust it at you!

Parody "Hit The Road Jack" by Ray Charles

Anti-9/11 conspiracy parody is available for some who's ona mood or want to rip on those paranoid idiots. Have to be done with an Eminem song.

I wonder if I'm the only person who will ever parody "Surfin Bird"- Trashmen

The search function pulls up the following:

1.  "Barfin' Bird," Michael Pacholek "Surfin' Bird," The Trashmen
2.  "Bush's Bird," Michael Pacholek "Surfin' Bird," The Trashmen
3.  "Senator Byrd," Airfarcewon "Surfin' Bird," The Trashmen
4.  "Sir! Nix Bird!!!," John A. Barry "Surfin' Bird," Trashmen
5.  "Surfin' Surd," Ann Hammond "Surfin' Bird," Trashmen

You must be Ann...I'll give these all a critical comparison later...

EDIT: If this was graded on the SOTM/ABC voting scales, here's how I'd rank 'em:
5pts=Ann
4pts=John Barry
3pts=Michael P. (Bush's Bird)
2pts=Airforcewon
1pt=Michael P (Barfin' Bird)

Yours is best, because it's most absurd! :)

The challange board has been dead lately
So I challange Ethan Mawyer to do "Quote Unquote" by Mr. Bungle (Since he only does hits that make it to the charts, and Mr. Bungle as far I know... Has not made it to any music charts)
