Subject: AmIRight All Request Hour

Written By: Cat on 03/03/07 at 9:36 pm

I originally was going to launch this like a proper contest, but I've decided to make it a bit simpler.

On this thread, you can just request OSes that you'd like to see a certain parodist do. Any parodist (as long as they're an active participant) and any OS is up for grabs, and deadlines are unlimited for creativity's sake, but if your parodist doesn't follow through in say, a month, you have every right to give them a little virtual "kick" as a reminder. I'd suggest that the requests be fairly spread-out among parodists since no one parodist is bogged down (we all know how bad that is) but there's no really strict rule about it. It's not so much a contest as a project to see what you can do with a specific OS, a bit like Tomario's Great Parody Challenge, only any of us can pick and choose. For all we know, we could be producing some of our best work through this. Not to mention that it's an excellent cure for writer's block!

I myself have one I've been itching to request for weeks, but I'll wait for a bit of feedback before I reveal it. ;) What do you guys think?

Oh, and I'm going to be participating in this too. Hit me with yer best shot!

Okay, Cat ... write a parody of Bob Dylan's song, "Desolation Row".

Okay, Johnny D... write a parody of any Eminem song (intros and skits are excluded). Major bonus points if you choose "Sing For The Moment"

Can't wait to see what I get, heh heh.

Great idea for a contest. I had discussed just such a thing with Peter Andersson quite a while back, but the "contest" portion was the hang up. By making this more a "free for all", you've eliminated that problem.

I would ask that one rule be included: no giving of insane instrumentals as challenges.

Johnny D: I kinda assumed that by issuing a challenge you are also going to be an active participant.

ARGH. I remember when you told me that, JD. And I've tried (and failed) to do Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again. But I'll try it! *gulp*...At least know I actually know the OS. I've gotten quite into Dylan over the past few months.

By the way, these don't have to be really nasty OSes. Just anything you'd like to see.

Anyway, what I was going to say earlier is that I'm dying to see Stu McArthur parody "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush. I've gotten quite familiar with that song since I had to read the book for English (and contrary to my classmates, I actually rather liked it) and it totally seems like his type of song, in the way that there's lots of potential for random capitalized words, and there can be many amusing title subs. One I came up with is "Blubbering Frights," don't know what that would refer to, though.

Never done before; it would be a first submission. As you probably already know, the rhymes are beyond nuts.

It's added to the mix on the organizing thread. . .this is almost scary from a performer's perspective. . .but the good thing is I'm new, so I would be low on the totem pole. . . :)  I won't go to far, but I'd like to see what Matthias can do with "Material Girl"

Anyway, what I was going to say earlier is that I'm dying to see Stu McArthur parody "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush.

I am honored that you would request me Cat, and I shall endeavour not to let you down

in fact I've loved that OS from the moment I saw a 10-second preview on Aussie TV News of the new Number 1 song in England "Wuthering Heights" by newcomer teenager Kate Bush, and I had also just read and loved the book, and couldn't wait to hear the song in full.  When I did, and saw the clip, I was in awe, and have loved it ever since.  I've also parodied it before, in an Aussie Rules Football context about Wayne Carey ("Eighteen" was the sub for "Cathy") but the singer I wrote it for didn't think it was as brilliant as I did, so it went nowhere

anyway, great idea for a comp/challenge Cat, and I like the no-time-limits aspect, so I'm onto it.

I'd like to see Phil do "Hit The Road Jack" - which was my submission for tomario's contest, but it was never done.  I'm choosing Phil because that OS gave me a heck of a hard time, and it's the sort of densely-paced wordplay song that Phil is a master at, going by his See My Chest and his MMG atheism parody and his parody of "Blinded By The Light" which I still can't even get to first base on

Yaaagh! You're pulling me in all different directions!

But anyway, I think I'm ready to do Desolation Row. I've even come up with a title, "More Relations? No!" about a soon-to-be-married couple and all of the husband's crazy relatives that the wife would rather not want to see.

d'l for free here http://www.mystrands.com/track/3315646
or play via Rhapsody http://play.rhapsody.com/thefieryfurnaces/blueberryboat/quaycur?didAutoplayBounce=true

I had a locket
A little silver charm
Given to me so to keep me out of harm
Canvasing the quay side trying to earn my keep
A killick tore it off my neck and threw it in the deep

And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again
And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again
And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again

Up to the quarantine, late night aboard
Try to raise our fees but we get what they afford
Busy work below deck according to form
Waiting for the clear to leave but then comes up a storm

We hid beneath the barrels of blubber hoping that the rain had passed
But when the wind kept up the rats cut down the rigging off the mast
And then the rust chewed through the anchor chain and out to sea we're cast

The clouds dried and cracked
It was calm and in fact
The ship had been towed
By sea Dyaks towed

So we're sold Kolaba
And sent, I let out a sob
A cry oh no it's disaster
T-Ranter Bay Madagascar.

Great gulps of Greek fire get us in
Sling sticks at the stockade Fort Dauphin
A guardsman gave a griffin said grease my duke
Down by the chimney and out through the fluke

A looby, a lordant, a lagerhead, lozel
A lungio lathback made me a proposal
Straight sail, top mast, astrolabe prospected
Down in his dry dock erected infected

Mocked up with silk strings and taffeta tricked
With nails out of driftwood already iron sicked
Now spy out the glass at whatever missteps me
Aand the press gang warrant's signed Sir Edward Pepsi

Course it wasn't long till I caught the croup
Dawding on the drizzy deck of my majesty's sloop
If only the helmsman would turn from his whip staff
With my azimuth compass I'd go by the hectograph

Up to the whaling fleet in Gilbert sound
Then back in the hull when we come around
With one hundred seals and two polar bears
Nearly in the harbor without any cares

But then
A looby, a lordant, a lagerhead, lozel
A lungio lathback made me a proposal
Straight sail, top mast, astrolabe prospected
Down in his dry dock erected infected

Mocked up with silk strings and taffeta tricked
With nails out of driftwood already iron sicked
Now spy out the glass at whatever missteps me
And the press gang warrant's signed Sir Edward Pepsi

Half-hour sandglass
Seven saker round shot
Ice for the moonshine
And chichsaneg

Canyglow, canyglow, canyglow don't say nugo
Tie tight my sugnacoon
In comes the tucktodo
Aba in aob aginyoh.

Look awennye
Get out my sawygmeg
Yliaout, yliaout
Weave us on shore

Unuiche quoysah
Maconmeg
And I gave a sasobneg.

Canyglow, canyglow, canyglow don't say nugo
Tie tight my sugnacoon
In comes the tucktodo
Aba in aob aginyoh. Half hour sandglass
Seven saker round shot
Ice for the moonshine
And "chichsaneg"

](this is a translation of the above 4 stanzas)
Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, don't say no
Tie tight my coat
In comes the fog
Fallen down in the sea, go fetch

Look yonder
Get out my knife
I mean no harm, I mean no harm
Weave us on shore

Give it, give it to me
Will you have
And I gave a bracelet

Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, don't say no
Tie tight my coat
In comes the fog
Fallen down in the sea, go fetch

And now we live by muskles, water weeds with small relief in store
And all the sick men in the Galean were then put upon the shore
And on the twenty second we didn't see our general any more.

Down came our trestle-trees, no pitch tar or nails
Fore shrouds break no rope we trust
Only shift of sails

Drink my Rosa Solis, struck suddenly ahull
Yield ourselves we spoomed, my sinews stiff
My eyes were dull

And as we pass the equinoctial only five of us could stand
And while the capsten without sheets or tacks by all of us was manned
And on the eleventh day of June ran in at Barehaven to land
And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again
And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again
And now I'll never, never, never feel like I am safe again

I see that issuing two challenges doesn't seem to be against the rules... matter of fact, there doesn't seem to be any rules!

So, I challenge you to parody "Locomotive" by Guns 'N Roses.

The lyrics are here.

And, I happened to find a YouTube video for the song as well:

(ignore the narration at the beginning and end: that's not in the song)

Should be a cakewalk for someone who has done nasty raps and TWOTEF.  ;)

I had a working title called "Neo's Motives" about the Matrix trilogy for that song: use it if you want.

The contest is unlimited time, but exceeding 3 months IMO should be grounds for being pwned!

As for topics, just brainstorm as many words that have the same syllabic emphasis as "Locomitive" as you can.

e.g.:

Diarrhea
Gonorrhea
Choke a hostess
Hocus Pocus

and so on.

I've got two decent titles for my challenge.. it's just a matter of writing down lyrics more nutzo than an average rap... and vary the umpteen kajillion choruses in the song... and figure out how to format it so people can follow it...  ;)

Thanks Kristof!  ;D

As for me...well, I've got 20% of "More Relations? No!" written, but being that I have a monster calculus test tomorrow I don't know if I'll write any more tonight. But then again, I've been memorizing the formulas for several days now, so I might have a bit of time...

Okay, since my first request has been fulfilled, here's another one I've always wanted to see.

Spaff, if you're reading this...do We Didn't Start The Fire already!!

Like Kristof, I am not one to walk away from a challenge. I am one to run, however. If I got challenged with that longass weirdass Agrimorfee thing, for example, I'd already be halfway to the border.

"We Didn't Start the Fire," eh, Caitie? Yikes. I think a bigger challenge than actually writing that will be coming up with a decent concept for it that hasn't already been done. But OK, if there's no time limit, you're on. I just don't want anyone bugging me for a status report anytime before 2008.

Agri, you gave out a seafaring indie band to Kristof, so I'm giving you a different seafaring indie band in return!
I present to you "The Mariner's Revenge Song" by The Decemberists: (who I'm seeing live two weeks from today!!)
Listen to the OS here: http://itsundertherotunda.blogspot.com/2007/03/decemberists-20.html

Lyrics:
We are two mariners
Our ship's sole survivors
In this belly of a whale
Its ribs are ceiling beams
Its guts are carpeting
I guess we have some time to kill...

You may not remember me
I was a child of three
And you a lad of eighteen
But I remember you
And I will relate to you
How our histories interweave

At the time you were a rake and a roustabout
Spending all your money on the wh*res and hounds

You had a charming air
All cheap and debonair
My widowed mother found so sweet
And so she took you in
Her sheets still warm with him
Now filled with filth and foul disease

As time wore on, you proved a debt-ridden, drunken mess
Leaving my mother a poor consumptive wretch

And then you disappeared
Your gambling arrears
The only thing you left behind
And then the magistrate
Reclaimed our small estate
And my poor mother lost her mind

Then one day in spring, my dear sweet mother died
But before she did, I took her hand as she, dying, cried

"Find him, bind him,
Tie him to a pole and break his fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he wakes up, naked,
Clawing at the ceiling of his grave!"

It took me fifteen years
To swallow all my tears
Among the urchins in the street
Until a friary
Took pity and hired me
To keep their vestry nice and neat

But never once in the employ of these holy men
Did I ever once turn my mind from the thought of REVENGE!

One night I overheard
The prior exchanging words
With a penitent whaler from the sea
The captain of his ship
Who matched you toe to tip
Was known for wanton cruelty

The following day I shipped to sea with a privateer
And in the whistle of the wind I could almost hear...

"Find him, bind him,
Tie him to a pole and break his fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he wakes up, naked,
Clawing at the ceiling of his grave!"

"There is one thing I must say to you
As you sail across the sea:
Always your mother will watch over you
As you avenge this wicked deed..."

And then that fateful night
We had you in eyesight
After twenty months at sea
Your starboard flank, abeam
I was getting my muskets clean
When came this rumbling from beneath...

The ocean shook, the sky went black and the captain quailed
And before us grew the angry jaws of a giant WHALE!

Don't know how I survived
The crew all was chewed alive
I must have slipped between his teeth
But oh, what providence
What divine intelligence
That you should survive as well as me!

It gives my heart great joy to see your eyes fill with fear
So lean in close and I will whisper the last words you'll hear!

Have fun. ;D

I used to think daylight savings time in Indiana was such an event, but that started last year. Then there was lights in Wrigley Field and the two Sox teams winning the World Series....

1.  "Barfin' Bird," Michael Pacholek "Surfin' Bird," The Trashmen
2.  "Bush's Bird," Michael Pacholek "Surfin' Bird," The Trashmen
3.  "Senator Byrd," Airfarcewon "Surfin' Bird," The Trashmen
4.  "Sir! Nix Bird!!!," John A. Barry "Surfin' Bird," Trashmen
5.  "Surfin' Surd," Ann Hammond "Surfin' Bird," Trashmen

You must be Ann...I'll give these all a critical comparison later...

EDIT: If this was graded on the SOTM/ABC voting scales, here's how I'd rank 'em:
5pts=Ann
4pts=John Barry
3pts=Michael P. (Bush's Bird)
2pts=Airforcewon
1pt=Michael P (Barfin' Bird)

Mr. Bungle was an awesome band...the vocalist is Mike Patton, who you probably know better from Faith No More and the hit single "Epic" (remember the bouncing goldfish? ;))

Very good choice, Matthias! (do you have all 3 albums? California is the BEST!! 8))

Their style was musically all over the place...the best comparison I can give you Ethan about the band, and with this song in particular, is Frank Zappa crossed with a little bit of System of a Down. Good luck!!! ;D

(edit: Maybe it would help for you to know that the song was originally intended to be titled "Travolta" before Warner Bros.' lawyers started getting antsy. Also, Mike Patton is quoting the chorus from "Grease" during the quiet sections in the middle, not included on the lyric sheet)

Beeswax is abit tricky. It took a third try for me to get a good paced parody of it while keeping to a theme(although the theme was pretty flexible).

I was seeking out for a funnel
not only magnets, but I can pry bar it shut
glueing my manhood to the manhole
like Pepe Lepew scent, hey, hey, had light weight clutch

(chorus)
I got my titilate spayed x3
I got my titilate

Stupid assbutton*
tweaking and flexing if the winds blows just right
tacky and thumbs on polyester
highwater jumpsuits and a raped ape
Woody had pix-n-pax

(chorus)

I don't know why....
I gotta joke too silly to say
don't trust the foams....
I gotta, day, day, have a f*****g hey**

(chorus)

Vinegar and water is created monthly
fiberglass insulated disguise as cotton candy
spawning down stream el rancho ovulate
feeding a cow hamburger and raw
Peter has brought me tiki idol
Billy's sneer reminds me of someone
homesick abay aboard the love boat
Tony Tenile, Sony Bono, Charo had a nice set of lungs!

(chorus)
I got my titilate spayed
I got liberty
I got my titilate spayed x2

Hard...
I gotta be around p****
don't let me fall...
I gotta, hey, hey, well you can't live

(chorus)
I got my titilate spayed x6
I got my titilate

*Two other possible lyrics that this could be are "Kitty Assbutton" or "Push the assbutton".

You can trust these lyrics more than most of the others online.

That's what my third parody of Beeswax is like, random references that match the pacing.

I post the parody....

Title: Step-chan's Beeswax

I am speaking out for a Winky
not on a Pidgey, but I can try for a lunch
bruising a Ginyu on a beehole
like Nene can do pay, yay, yay, had right way punch!

I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee

Gentle Ai bosom
bouncing and jumping when her walk goes just right
Maki and Trunks or Polyester
Hightower jumps you and the Grape Ape
Karen had prech-n-mac

I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee

I ate a pie....
I wrote a song too silly to play
don't rust the swords....
I gotta, yay, yay, kiss a loving mate!

I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee

Jessica and Yangus related diddly
metal slime consultated in guise of Lot 'n Mandy
trimming town dream el pancho populate
reading a Mao ram merger in fall
Ranpha has bought me loli-idol
Yuri's cheer demands me of no one
plush doll away afford a bar soap
Yomi surreal, Cutie, Tomo, Chiyo read a nice set of puns!....

I got a jubilee say
I got metaly
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say....

Go....
I gotta be around Forte
you hear her call....
I got a hen-tai, will you laugh then?....

I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee say
I got a jubilee

--------------------------

The basic idea for my parody was what it would look like if I wrote it instead.

I'm an oldies/rock kind of person because thats what I listened to before my hearing loss got severe.  I can still take lyrics like these and have fun with them even if I'm not able to hear it correctly now.  Something for you to do... I just grabbed a cd and turned it over and saw Take Me Home Tonight/ Be My Baby by EddieMoney with Ronnie Spector if you want to do that.

Are these the lyrics or a parody of the lyrics?. If these are the lyrics this is going to be a lot eaiser using these rather then what I found.

The lyrics in Reply#174 are the original song lyrics, Reply#175 are the lyrics to my parody of that song. I know alot about Nirvana, so you can trust the lyrics in Reply#174(they mostly came from livenirvana's site, which are more accurate than most other sites). And you can use the parody lyrics in Reply#175 as guide for the song's length.

I've heard Take Me Home Tonight/Be My Baby, so I can do that.... it will take some time though, because I'll have to use a video on youtube to do it.

Edit: I checked amiright for any parodies to Take Me Home Tonight... I'm surprised that there aren't any(not even one).. I know there are a few Eddie Money parodies though... But none of that song?

I watched the video for it, I have a loose idea for the song at the moment, but I don't know if I can make it into a complete idea.

The syllable count is correct too(unlike some of the other interpretations).

On mine I just need to find good lyric tabs(and listen to the song to check for any errors).

The loose theme I have is more in the anime area(but not based on any particular show, more of a character type)... although I'm not very certain it will work(so I'll have to think of a some other themes just in case).

But I do want to try it out first, since it's something I know well.

Okay...it looks like there's someone else here who's overdue for a challenge of his own. ;)

Agri, you gave out a seafaring indie band to Kristof, so I'm giving you a different seafaring indie band in return!
I present to you "The Mariner's Revenge Song" by The Decemberists: (Have fun. ;D

I did have fun, so I know I feel it is time to return the favor.

I request...no DARE you to parody "Smack Jack" by Nina Hagen. The challenge won't be much in terms of song length or structure as much as the performance of the tune, methinks.

Here's her lyrics:
He just needs a hot shot,
He just needs a hot shot,
You need a hot shot
You need a hot shot

You are always running out
And you are always running short
Nothing matters anymore
All you want is go and score
No one starts with two a day
But they all seem to end that way
.
Shoot it up Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack
That's a drag with a monkey on your back Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack
That's a short term solution

He just needs a hot shot,
You need a hot shot
He just needs a hot shot,
You need a hot shot

You've never could have thought or guessed
That things could get so far out of hand hahahahaha
I'm gonna see you coming down in a cold sweat running
It's gonna be a different tune that you will soon be humming

Shoot it up Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack
That's a drag with a monkey on your back Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack
That's a short term solution

He just needs a hot shot,
You need a hot shot
He just needs a hot shot,
you need a hot shot

The devil has got his hooks on you
You are racing against his clock
His plastic paradise won't last
you've got-a no future and no past
Anyone can see your eyes
excuse me hell is full of lies

Shoot it up Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack

I did have fun, so I know I feel it is time to return the favor.

I request...no DARE you to parody "Smack Jack" by Nina Hagen. The challenge won't be much in terms of song length or structure as much as the performance of the tune, methinks.

Here's her lyrics:
He just needs a hot shot,
He just needs a hot shot,
You need a hot shot
You need a hot shot

You are always running out
And you are always running short
Nothing matters anymore
All you want is go and score
No one starts with two a day
But they all seem to end that way
.
Shoot it up Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack
That's a drag with a monkey on your back Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack
That's a short term solution

He just needs a hot shot,
You need a hot shot
He just needs a hot shot,
You need a hot shot

You've never could have thought or guessed
That things could get so far out of hand hahahahaha
I'm gonna see you coming down in a cold sweat running
It's gonna be a different tune that you will soon be humming

Shoot it up Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack
That's a drag with a monkey on your back Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack
Shoot it up Smack Jack

You need a hot shot
He just needs a hot shot,

Jack, you can't just do a repeat of what Stu did. Then it'd just seem like a cheap ripoff.

That being said, I think he set the bar so high that attempting to top it is futile.

In the wake of what you have given me, I have thought long and hard about this decision and I came to the conclusion that it is a tradition that must be continued: Tim Hall, who wrote the first Desolation Row parody on AmIRight, created the Desolation Row Torch when he challenged Johnny D to parody it, and he succeeded spectacularly. He then passed it on to me, and my parody of it earned me a silver medal in SOTM. And now...the time has come for me to pass the Torch on to you.

For now, I've sorta met this challenge: I parodied the choruses of the song, but did them on the spot and karaoked the rest. Yep, a recording exists: it should be up on the site by Monday or so.

Singing this OS is probably as hard as writing new lyrics to it, so I hope you're pleased with the result.

I assure you that there is a vague possibility that one day maybe I'll entertain the thought of considering to allocate some time to studying your proposal, and that consequently, if and only if the conclusions drawn from that study were that a parody idea of that OS were possible to concieve, then implementation of that idea, ie. converting thought to reality, would be, if not a distinct possiblity, definitely not an INdistinct IMpossibility (can't give you odds though)

Hey! I don't think it's fair to challenge EVERYONE to do a parody. Shouldn't that be against the rules, Cat? I think it should be. It's kinda ridiculous.

BTW, I just came up with an idea for Desolation Row. It's about a group of people who track down people who spend too much time playing World Of Warcraft. The title? Operation: WoW!

All right then I'll see what I can do with it.

Subject: Re: AmIRight All Request Hour

Written By: ThaConqueror on 08/09/07 at 4:01 am

So, let's recap:

1. Jack Wilson has challenged 'everyone' to do a parody of 'Electric Avenue'
2. This is not against the rules, primarily as there aren't any real rules to begin with.
3. Jack Wilson thinks that Electric Avenue and Desloation Row should be the next 'American Pie and TWOTEF', meaning the next songs that are absolutely ridiculous to parody. This I can agree with.

What's left to resolve is this - what does Jack mean by 'everyone'? Is that everyone who visits this thread? Or every parodist on AmiRight? Jack should - this is only a suggestion - perhaps come up with a list with who he means by 'everyone'. Of course, this will likely result in a sudden slew of 'Electric Avenue' parodies.

This song?

By Eddie Grant

Now in the street there is violence
And - and a lots of work to be done
No place to hang out our washing
And - and I can't blame all on the sun
Oh no we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Oh we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Workin' so hard like a soldier
Can't afford a thing on TV
Deep in my heart I am warrior
Can't get food for them kid
Good God we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Oh we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
(interlude:
Oh no...
Oh no...
Oh no...
Oh no...)
Who is to blame in one country
Never can get to the one
Dealin' in multiplication
And they still can't feed everyone
Oh no we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Oh no we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
(2nd interlude:
Out in the street...
Out in the street...
Out in the playground...
In the dark side of town...)
Oh we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Hey, we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
(Rock it in the daytime,
Rock it in the night ... etc, fading)

Just wrote down the lyrics(minus repeated ones).

I'll see what lyrics I can do today.

This song?

By Eddie Grant

Now in the street there is violence
And - and a lots of work to be done
No place to hang out our washing
And - and I can't blame all on the sun
Oh no we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Oh we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Workin' so hard like a soldier
Can't afford a thing on TV
Deep in my heart I am warrior
Can't get food for them kid
Good God we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Oh we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
(interlude:
Oh no...
Oh no...
Oh no...
Oh no...)
Who is to blame in one country
Never can get to the one
Dealin' in multiplication
And they still can't feed everyone
Oh no we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Oh no we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
(2nd interlude:

and then we'll take it higher
Hey, we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue

But I still have to do Take me home tonight(which I have do alittle improving to yesterday, I still need to get a good feel for it though), so I'll get to that when I can get a recording of the song.

In my case:

Take Me Home Tonight: done with the first chorus(which also lays the main ground work for the other choruses), need to finish the first verse and write the second verse. I will try to make minor changes in the future choruses of the song for alittle variety.

Electric Avenue: I have no idea what to make this one about and I don't have the song. Will need to find a copy to check out at the library. I will look it up on youtube and listen to it to see what I can do with it.

-Drum Roll-

"Welcome To Sacred Heart" from "Scrubs: My Musical"

Here is the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiyDQUswtSA

Here are the lyrics

Dr. Kelso:
Hello, I'm Dr. Kelso, I'm delighted that you came
So the doctors say you fainted, and you don't know what's to blame
Well, put your mind at ease, there's no ill we can't outsmart
On behalf of all who work here...

All:
Welcome to Sacred Heart!

J.D.:
Our facilities are excellent! You couldn't ask for more
Janitor:
As long as you avoid the bathrooms on the second floor

Dr. Kelso:
This is Dr. Cox, I'll be giving him your chart
Dr. Cox:
And that's Dr. Kelso -- the kiss-ass of Sacred Heart!

Turk:
You say you burned your hand real bad -- we'll fix you up with gauze
Elliot:
Perhaps you need your fat sucked out -- or want a smaller schnoz!
J.D.:
Hey!

Dr. Kelso:
You caught an S.T.D. from some tasty little tart?

All:
We swear
We won't judge you here at Sacred...
Here at Sacred...
Here at Sacred Heart!

(Instrumental)

Dr. Kelso:
One more thing that I should mention, if what I've heard is true
And everyone appears to be singing to you....

All:
Ahh, Ahhh! Ahh, Ahhh! Ahh, Ahhh! Ahh, Ahhh!

Dr. Kelso:
Your case is very serious! And we'd better start!

All:
'Cause if you think we're singing, you belong at Sacred Heart!
Doctors! Nurses! Patients! Dead guys!
Welcome to Sacred Heart!

That's because I don't have the apartment to myself right now, it would be too much of a disturbance(the computer is in the living room, I don't have room in the bedroom). I actually sing improvs to the original songs in order to get lyrical ideas/parody ideas down. If I still had the place all to myself, I wouldn't have a problem with using youtube. This has happened everytime I've did a parody contest/request of sorts, I also have ideas to Mexican Radio and We Be Burnin' that I could do with youtube videos, but can't due to the current situation.

I've never heard of AltaVista before, what does that site do?

I have headphones, but I still need to sing over it(in other words, sing out loud). I find it abit harder to do song parodies without singing to them, especially to songs that I'm not very familiar with(I've done one parody and a collaboration by not singing to it, it made it abit tougher to come up with lyrics, I was using libraries at the time too, the one I was at have time limits on computer use). Singing over the OS also helps me get a feel for the pacing and lets me see what type of lyrics will work to it.

Edit: Darn spelling errors I did.

You could always sing in your head. I do that most of the time - mainly cause I'm still unsure about my voice.

Back to the point of this thread -

CAT! I dare you to parody 'Temperature' by Sean Paul (seeing as Step-chan brought him up just before)! Have with your first rap song! Now what are you gonna have me do?

Subject: Re: AmIRight All Request Hour

Written By: Step-chan on 09/13/07 at 2:18 pm

You could always sing in your head. I do that most of the time - mainly cause I'm still unsure about my voice.

I don't like singing in my head, it messes me up(I can only really do that with Nirvana songs, but I still prefer not to). If I'm not familiar with the song, even while listening to it, I'll end up getting lost even if I try to sing it in my head, thus affecting my pacing to a moderate degree.

The two times I did it were these:

1. A parody of a live Nirvana recording, I had only listen to the song a few times. So I did it while I had the idea when I was at the library. The lyrics I used weren't 100% accurate and had a missing line. So I will be doing another parody to it sometime when I get my place back to one occupant(I'm not in a hurry for another of that one just yet, I have well over 20 untouched parody ideas right now).

2. The collaboration parody several parody authors did to Wind It Up, I contributed the last verse and chorus, it took me about 20 minutes(I had to check to make sure no one else did the lyrical plan I was going to do).  Since I didn't have to do alot, I didn't mind doing the song in my mind for the most part. Unfortunately, I had to listen to the torture that is Wind It Up to write part of it.

These are the only exceptions and due to the fact the "Electric Avenue" is not a very easy song for me to keep up with by singing it my head, I'm far better off getting a copy of a CD from the library(or get someone to make me a copy). Even though "Take Me Home Tonight" wasn't super hard to do(except for a few verse lines), I still wouldn't attempted to do it in my head.

Now I know singing it out loud(bad singing doesn't concern me, it doesn't affect my ability to judge pacing) sounds amaturish, but I find it way more effective in helping me write my parodies.

Edit: I do own somewhere around the neighborhood of 50 CDs, so I've did plenty of parodies from the some of them, I've just never got a song that I already had when doing a parody contest/request.

Who's Dumbledor is the better question.

Dumbledor is the Head-Master of Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the Harry Potter books.
I would do it if I didn't already have a lot of Harry Potter parodies.
Heck, I still might do it, since J.K Rowlings recently brought him out of the closet.

Dude, there are a number of traditions that has been established at this thread that you are trying to buck.

1. Parodist #1 picks a song for a specific person (or persons) to parody. (Personally, I still have issues with people challenging "everyone")
2. Chosen parodist(s) takes the song on for any topic they wish.
3. There is no deadline.

Please play by the rules. :-*

I'm not a tightwad money wise, it was the only one that had that song on it.

Do you know how hard it is to find Eddy Grant albums in most stores nowadays?

It turns out that it's a cover done by Countdown. In fact, all the songs on that CD set are covers done by Countdown. I know I won't be keeping that CD set after I finish the parody.

Oh, okay... My bad. Sorry. :-[

It's 4 discs actually.

Fortunately, I'll also use the original online(from youtube) to grade and tweak the parody after I finish. Fortunately, I'll only have to write from the 2nd verse on up as well(since I have the first verse and chorus done).

Hey, maybe you should keep the set in case you get inspired for another track that may happen to be on there! (think of it as a long-term investment...cause you probably won't get more than a buck back for it at resale value. :))

The only other song on there that I have an idea(a loose idea at that) for is Karma Chameleon. But I'm not really worried about doing that right now, plus I need to test the waters on that song with that idea through improv. Plus, I need to check how accurate they are on the song versus the original... While the Electric Avenue cover seems pretty dead on pacing and lyric wise with the original version, I still need to go over it with the vid of the original to make sure it works right. I'll go get the CDs real quick and check what else is on there, but I don't think there is anything else on there that I would listen to.

Here's the list(as listed per CD):

CD 1

1. What's love got to do with it
2. Forever your girl
3. Tell it to my heart
4. Total ecclipse of heart
5. Rhythm is gonna get you
6. Bette Davis Eyes
7. Saving all my love for you
8. Flashdance- What a feeling
9. Sweet Dreams
10. Magic
11. I love Rock n Roll
12. It's raining men
13. All she wants to do is dance

CD 2:

1. Caribbean Queen(No more love on the run)
2. Material girl
3. Footloose
4. Heaven
5. Addicted to love
6. I just called to say I love you
7. Faith
8. Mony Mony
9. Don't worry, be happy
10. Red Red Wine
11. Billie Jean
12. Lady in red
13. Take my breath away

CD 3:

1. Say you, say me
2. Smooth operater
3. Every breathe you take
4. Private eyes
5. You gotta fight for your right to party
6. Jump
7. Everybody wants to rule the world
8. Nothing's gonna stop us now
9. Power of love
10. Livin' on a prayer
11. She drives me crazy
12. I still haven't found what I'm looking for

CD 4:

1. Uptown girl
2. Like a virgin
3. Let's dance
4. Human
5. Karma Chameleon
6. Wake me up before you go-go
7. Electric Avenue
8. Down under
9. Bad to the bone
10. Girls just want to have fun
11. Walking on sunshine
12. One night in bangkok

Alot of these songs I wouldn't dare subject myself to even if I came up with a parody idea for them. While I think there is at least one or two more along side Electric Avenue and Karma Chameleon that I have an idea for(one is drug themed if I remember correctly)... I don't think I would want to do them anyway.

There are ideas I have decided not to do for obvious reasons and others that I've kept in limbo(in case I change mind, I think that happened once or twice with me).

Subject: Re: AmIRight All Request Hour

Both songs are around the same time length when comparing the covers to the originals, will still need to do tweak them online just to make sure...

I'll finally get the apartment back down from 3 to 2 pretty soon, I'll be able to concentrate on parody writing on and off.

I once again challange my favorite challangee... Agrimorfee to take on a song...
The song this time is by a band both you and I enjoy (As for everybody else they're probably too weird).
That's right I'm talking about Mr. Bungle.
(Don't worry the song I'm challanging you to is not "Egg", I'm not that cruel)
BUT...
I'm challanging you to parody my personal favorite Mr Bungle song...
Which is...

"Girls Of Porn"

I'm sure you're familer with it
If not here's the Youtube Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lN0_FD84E4

Good Luck, and Enjoy... The trick here is getting it past the Chucky Meter.  ;)

I'm pretty sure this is my first visit to this thread.  It is weird because I did an Electric Avenue parody on the 21st of this month.  If you'd like a view of it here is the URL:

http://www.amiright.com/parody/80s/eddiegrant6.shtml

And I have the original Eddie Grant song on a CD - I could have emailed it to you and saved you the trouble of making a purchase.  It's such a totally stupidly written song and so is my parody of it.

Could never confuse them with Reel Big Fish.  ;D Funny, though, you picked the most normal song on the album.

The only problem is the CD drives... they won't access, so I wouldn't be able to burn any songs to a CD. I did the first verse and chorus from a youtube vid... But I don't like doing parodies online.(mainly because I don't have my one bedroom apartment all to myself like I used to, I'm a shy writer who needs to sing out loud to the songs I parody)

On the one hand, I can do both my Eddie Grant and Culture Club parodies now. I know I won't keep the CD set after that.

Another reason for prefering to do it offline is because of the fact that I'm tempted to go to many of my favorite sites instead, since I like to go online more to relax and have fun.

Edit:

I have a very good idea for the song, just need to finish it.

I gots a question - I recently remembered Matthias' challenge to me to parody 'Everyone's A Little Bit Racist' from Avenue Q. I searched through the thread to see the post, in case there was a YouTube vid. But to no avail - that post is nowhere to be found.

Was it deleted because Matthias saw that the challenge was too mean, and decided to silently retract it? Or was it something else, and I'm in too much of a good mood from my birthday today  ;)

Matthias: I challenge you to parody........
"Smashing Blue" by Bad Luck!

Errrrr....

How am I supposed to parody something that's in Japanese?

No offense DJ Blaze but this one most likely won't get done because parodying this song would be seriously impossible to do

I hate to turn down a challenge but... seriously?! How the heck am I supposed to do this?!

EDIT: dang you, special christmas names! Who in the heck is rusty grisworld, matthias? Or did you just make that up for kicks?

Your parody doesn't have to be in Japanese. You just have to match the syllables. OK, you can turn this one down.

I remember doing a parody to one partially in Japanese, although I went more by lyrical flow.(I didn't have the lyrics, so I tried to hear the syllable count as much as I could) The choruses were the only parts in English.

So that's:

Kimi ga hero

You Give A Little Love' from the movie Bugsy Malone

The thing is I also started(barely), a parody of Karma Chameleon. I also have parody ideas for Kenny and Cleo(once I have the song 100% transcribed, only one line to go!), one that goes to Georgie Girl, one for Waiting on the sun, and one for Whole new you, among many others I've been meaning to get to. :D

I still have the links to those songs saved, I just need good ideas before I start doing them.

Plus, I've finally submitted a couple of parodies recently(I'm abit rusty too... The parody to Drown by Son Volt took me longer to finish than I thought).

Plus, I'm currently in the beginning phase of several other parody ideas.

Mainly to songs from these artists:

2 Live Crew (A first for me)
Nirvana (Two from this one)
Chipmunks & Chipettes
Katy Perry
Black Market Flowers

I'll take another look at the songs here shortly to see if I can actually get any ideas going while on the others.

Edit: On another note, I just realized that I have Kimiga Hero on my Dragon Ball import soundtrack.
