Subject: Possible parody contest around Spanish National Anthem

Written By: McKludge on 06/05/07 at 3:49 pm

The Spanish National Anthem dates back to the 18th century, but has no words.  The Spanish Olympic Committee would like it to have words so that if/when they win a gold medal, they have something to sing.  So someone is introducing a bill in their parliament to come up with words.  This sounds like an excellent opportunity for a song parody contest.

The story is here http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19029619/

You can hear the anthem here http://www.national-anthems.net/countries/index.php?id=SP

Great idea... though not if we've got to do it in Spanish...

it's not really a parody...

But still a worthy endeavor

Are we going to be writing lyrics in English or Spanish?

For that matter, I've been wanting to spoof the Peruvian National Anthem which is "Somos Libres" (We are free). My idea is "Somos Gripes" (We are flu illnesses). This is because the climate makes colds and flu quite common.

I was thinking English, because everyone posting here reads English.  Also, the more I think about it, it might be better to make it where you have to record the parody, because most people have never heard the song before.  Without knowing the OS, it's not much different than writing poetry.
