Jumpin jiminy, this was the toughest to judge in many a month...

Leme get these Honorable Mentions out of the way, if I could make it a 9 seat podium I would... to Matthias, Invisible Boy, Stu & Mikey

but here we go

5pts=McKludge (you out-funnied and out-researched Kristof on his own idea IMHO--good job!)
4pts=EmiLoca (a very difficult tune to pace, but it was on 100%,  plus with such self-deprecating humor and the opening spoken part helped kick it into gear)
3pts=Guy (an epic tune very few people could pull off, a genious idea to change the character's name to "Bending Spaghetti" while also adding many other funny Maf' character names. A poetic masterpiece.)
2pts= Kristof (hi Kristof...blame it on Emi and Guy!)
1pts=Phil (took this old horse and made it stand out...er, sorrry...)

Lots of entries this month, good thing this was a three day weekend for me.

1st place and 5 points to Phil Alexander.  It's {ahem} hard to write a {ahem} long parody about this without {ahem} beating it to death, but you succeeded.  ;D
2nd place and 4 points to EmiLoca.  A really tough OS to pace, but you nailed it, including some good internal rhyming.
3rd place and 3 points to Kristof Robertson.  This really worked because your parody told a little story along with it.  Plus, I have to give this good marks because it inspired my SOTM  ;)
4th place and 2 points to Invisible Boy.  Images of kids riding kangaroos and hunting dingos made this for me.
5th place and 1 point to Stuart McArthur.  You'd think the course marshall would make you move on after you hit double par.

Honorable Mention to Guy DiRito for the ambition of tackling Scenes from an Italian Restaraunt.

The YouTube video for #12, Jeff Ruben's entry, is dead. I'm not that familiar with TOS, but this might be a substitute:

Here we go again (calling them as I pass them by), the YouTube video for #15, Michael E Cormier's entry, is now dead. It's not that hard to find alternate YouTube videos though, or mp3s etc, so I'll let the author or the comp administrator BAD suggest a new "official" source, if that at all is necessary. // Peter

This was possibly the hardest month ever in terms of tellapartability, and quality, anyone on these five (and some others too) could have been AT LEAST a medallist in any of the previous months of 2007!

5 Points: "Small, Doomed Tits"

4 Points: "Yum, Deities!"

3 Points: "Jesus On A Bun"

2 Points: "Mikey The Squirrel's Night Before Christmas 2007"

1 Point: "I'm Erect"

Special Kudos and an honourable mention to our own Redshirt, Max Power, who is always, always, always in the opening scene, i.e the sign up phase, very seldom in the second scene, i.e on the shortlists, and so far never ever in the top five, but possibly could have been so this time if the competition in this round hadn't been as hard as a Klingon's ass… I mean oath, Klingon's oath I mean…  8)

I'm not even going to mention my honourable mentions because the few that weren't in them would be offended.  When I started, I thought I'd be giving my 5 votes to Invisible Boy, but there was just SO MUCH GOOD STUFF.  In the end I gave it to our prodigal daughter Emi, because the blistering pace of the OS just raised her wit and humour to another level

17 Parodies, narrowed to five..  do you know what that is?  That's like, fitting a square block in a round hole. . .without cheating. . .jeese

Have a few HM's First

TCOP: One of your best paced parodies to date, and funny. . .this month was extremely competitive though, and I ultimately had to choose the ones that were over the top, but this is a sure sign of your constant contender status

Mike E Cormier: A strong way to come back, and in most months the hilarity of the parody would have been a top 5 candidate, this month there were a few that were just way out there in terms of comedy, and it made it difficult to choose my cuts

Kristof Robertson: I think the idea was fantastic, and I followed it pretty well, I liked it all around. . .but as I said in the previous statement, I had to make cuts, sorry buddy

Agrimorfee: My toughest cut of the lot, and easily my runner up position for top 5 status. . .great job on this parody, and I am glad I was able to give this points in another contest, because having to place this 6th kills me

Now, my picks

5th, 1 Point to Stuart McArthur: The idea of a friggin mole in the hole you are aiming, and knocking your score up to 190 on ONE HOLE is just so far fetched and out there that hearing it (yeah I do sing the parodies as I judge them) is just hilarious, spot on performance Stu

4th, 2 Points to Matthias: Despite reminding me of my own "That's My Cooking", this parody was rhymed so amazingly (No pun intended) with the original and done at such an epic comedy level that giving it anything less than 4th would feel criminal.  It was an amazing write the first time I read it and lost nothing through the second read, top notch buddy--TOP notch--in most months you'd be a front runner in my book with a parody like this.

3rd, 3 Points to EmILoca: You know, I don't believe I've read anything else by you, but this bit of self depreciation was just outright hilarious.  You took the form of comedy to a new level of self doubt. . .I am a frequent visitor to self depreciation topic (in fact, most of my entries this year flirted with that general type of topic)  I can see that if you are sticking around, you are going to be a constant force to be reckoned with in SOTM and Contest voting.

2nd, 4 Points to McKludge: Easily, and I mean Easily, Your best to date in my book.  I loved Kristof's Jesus on a Bun, but you took it to a whole new level including the Greek Gods and Madonna, and to such a fun original song that despite being done a number of times, has not been beaten to a pulp yet. . .I was thoroughly impressed with your rhyme ability and the way you turned a topic that on face value has limited humor into something magnificent

1st, 5 Points to Mikey Squirrel: Mikey, this is your best parody to date as I believe I said on your absolutely fantastic video version of this particular write.  The execution of the performance of this showed how well you thought out your write and performance.  The names of the reindeer were absolutely hilarious, and the imagery you painted of St. Nick was brilliantly though out. . .the best line was "I Still Want My Gifts" and this one will be remembered as a classic on both AmIRight and Badave, congrats buddy, I hope you finish well.

I'm not  having much fun voting on this. There are more than 5 that belong in the top 5. Having said that...

5 points to Phil
4 points to McK
3 points to Kristof
2 points to Matthias
1 point to Stuart

Mr Squirrel...I want to say how great, and funny your annimation was. It sort-of put you in a league of your own. I voted strictly on the lyric matching etc.

To everyone...great job. Thanks for the entertainment...

*bursts through backstage door, skids haphazardly across stage with envelope in hand, gasping for breath*

Okay... after MUCH deliberation, my small, diminutive points go to...  ;)

1 point for Mikey Squirrel, for providing a hilarious take on a tough classic.  I've tried and failed to parody The Night Before Christmas time and time again, and his effort obliterated anything I might have come up with.  Mad props.

2 points for Stu.  He had good marks from the time I saw the title and laughed out loud to the end of this on-par parody. Hilarious scenario, even though I know nothing about golf.

3 points to McKludge.  Jesus H. Christ.  I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to throw so many religious references into the tiny space of a Disney song... and the puns were all spot on, to boot.  I believe!  I believe!!!

4 points to Kristof.  An incredible original idea, plus funny plotline, plus one-line zingers that could kill a grown elephant (or, you know, just send me into paroxysms of laughter).

5 points to Phil Alexander.  He's really raised the "Be Our Guest" bar here.  Among other things.

9th, eh? 2nd highest I've ever gotten, but it's the highest I've gotten with a parody I'm proud of (I don't count my 6th place with 'Flyin' Qantas').

Congrats to Kristof, Emi and McKludge (interesting combo)!

Wow - I am truly honored to be in such good company!  (I find, however, that the results might be a little too representative of the AmIRight community, with two of the top four being about divine revelation, and the other two being about external genitalia.)

Great month everyone, and a big hearty scowl to McKludge and Kristof for ganging up on all of us.  ;)  But seriously.  What a stellar month.

Wow! Another tiebreaker round! (and one that Emi lost by a nipple, isn't that ironic?)  :P

Seriously, this was a month that'll go down the annals of SOTM for its overall quality, I wanted to vote for everyone and everything, and before I started reading what the rest of you had come up with I was sure that my own entry would be at least in the race for top five because I held it (and still do) as one of my best last year, and now it has ended up dead last with zippo points in a tiebreaker with the best one Max Power has entered to date.  ;D

:)

Thanks everyone.  I thought I had a winner with this one, and I guess I was right.  But I really do consider this a tie between Emi and me.  I know by the rules I win the tie break, but how about we melt down my gold and Emi's silver medal and make two Electrum medals?  And make a small one for Kristof, too, since if it weren't for his Jesus on a Bun, I would never have written Yum, Deities.

And I echo the sentiment about this months entries.  I looked back at the voting, and eight different people got a first place vote.  Quality all around, and something for everyone.

Thanks for all the votes, and on to next year!

And THAT's the last time I give someone a helping hand!  ;) (Now I know what Pete Best must have felt like after he said "Sure, Ringo...try out my drum stool"!)
Seriously, well done McK. I'm chuffed that I inspired you to create this masterpiece. Surely a sign of good things to come in 08, eh?

And big congrats to Emi, who seems to have an uncanny ability to blow in from nowhere and wreak havoc....you sure your name's not Katrina? Well done, sweetie

And a hearty slap on the back to everyone who entered...it was a phenomenal month, and I'm stoked that you voted me into third. Keep writing!

Sorry I'm late. Hectic week. Kinda knew I was in trouble when I saw Dec's listings. Great work guys. Lotta good material there. I don't know if it was rightly deserved, but thanks for the 5 point vote guy. Without that, it'd just be an HM for me, but with that list of songs this month, that still would be a  :). Congrats McKludge on your first win - no surprise that you'd win one one day, but in your first year is a good effort.

As Kristof said, Emiloca dashes back to shower us with her brilliance once again, and then off again to other projects no doubt, Emi.  I don't know anyone whose talent is more respected than Emi's.

And Kristof!  What! - just third?!!!  ah, commiserations, mate :\'(

My congratulations to all the winners and appreciation for all who entered this comp. There was a lot of great writing for this SOTM comp.

Agri - Thanks for bestowing my only points in this comp.

I'd like to thank Max and McKludge for giving me HMs.

Mike C. - IMO your 5 vote from me was well deserved, I do not cast votes lightly.

Now for what appears to be a little known fact on this site given the voting tallies, a search of "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" entries totaled only 11.  This is fewer than any of the Big 7.  Even BBTL has 25 entries that I could find.  And SFAIR is not a song that only a handful of people know.  It is well known.

I'd like to challenge anyone who has not already written a parody on SFAIR to produce one of this OS and do it well.  And for those of you who have done this OS I commend you for the effort.  Any takers?  This song could use a few more entries in order for it to be more appreciated. Or not.  I kind of like being only one of eleven who have accomplished a parody on this OS.

There are no repeat choruses to blow through as I usually don't repeat chorus verses in my parodies since my 2 plus year absence from the site. Looking for a challenge - this one will task you.  I'm really hoping that the total stays at eleven unless I write another one.

Written By: DoRitos on 02/05/08 at 11:04 am

I must correct my original post on SFAIR.  There are actually 15 parodies on this OS but four people who posted have trouble spelling the word "Restaurant" correctly

Written By: skittlesking on 02/05/08 at 10:54 pm

I respectfully decline the challenge myself, with the combined epic 40 me and Matthias are taking on in an effort to diversify the original big 7 as contest regulars, but on that note--I fully endorse the idea of expanding the entry field to include more songs that while challenging, are not overdone to a the point of obsessive. . .and though I can't accept it now. . .I will consider doing one in the future (perhaps when I don't have 36 other parodies I am committed to, two major contests and backlogged website work to do)
