Thanks for compiling all of this Dave. I'm thrilled to be on the list at all. Maybe I should have started a little sooner in the year.

Awesome... just squeaked into the top ten. Thanks for compiling this list, Dave. And thanks for the boost to my self-esteem. I plan to climb up the chart higher for 2008... look out, number 9! ;)

Firstly.....

WOW, Dave!!!

:o

That is amazing work.  I can't wait to see your completed SOTM and ABCs websites, but at that level of detail, I'm tipping it might be a while before you get it all done.  As I've said before, your energy levels are amazing.

As for the results, I could not have hoped for a better year - and it will never happen again, I assure you.  I was hoping to keep Kristof honest, and I almost did, but he had bolted to unbackable first place by midyear, if I recall.  Anyway, I was hoping for 250 points to beat my 2006 result, so to crack 300 was fantastic for me.  Thanks for all my votes everyone :)

As for Kristof and Phil, those two have been around longer than me, and I have looked up to them from day 1.  I never stop learning from the 2 of them.

Kristof is just the full package - pacing, ideas, and effort are all flawless to provide him with a base, but then there's the looniness and the plain brilliance of his humour that just lifts his stuff to another level.  It would be a crime if anyone else (except Spaff maybe) ever beat him to PAOTY because, as Tina says, he is simply the best.

Phil is so versatile and prolific, I am in awe of his output.  That he manages to fill his parodies with so many one-liners and so much tangential off-beat humour makes him unique.  Often I try to figure out where he got a particular idea from, and then just put it down to divine inspiration.  And he and Kristof are both experts at what I call "wink-to-the-reader" humour, which you've either got or you haven't.  Red Ant and Arwen also come to mind with that skill.

Finally, some of you may have suspected, but despite my intentions, my energy-levels/time-available have diminished over the last 6 months.  I've struggled to even write a parody a month.  It's because my personal CPU Usage metre is constantly at 100%, with 3 businesses, and 3 boarders, and 3 kids entering into or at the teenage years.

This year, I have to home educate one (my 13yo daughter) as she has taken up ballet training full-time with her eye on a career, so I've had to allocate my parody-writing hours (ie. my spare time) to doing that, and can't see me doing much parody-writing at all this year, except on holidays.  Hopefully on holidays I might get some done - I wrote "Prequel To Stan" on one last year.

I'll definitely still be running the ABCs because I can still participate in them with my old parodies.

And I'll definitely be watching what's going on, with an eye to submitting again (I'm starting to sound like Rick Cormier now!).  But the SOTMs might be a little out of my reach.  Anyway, all the talented newbies (too many to mention) will more than fill the gap, I know.

Good luck for SOTM 2009 everyone :)

Aw, he ain't leavin'...think of his role as Emeritus.  8)

Saddened that your challenge for "You Give A Little Love" may go unseen until further notice, but I will understand completely. Best of luck on the home schooling and towards your daughter's career...for real, if she makes to the Alvin Ailey or the Bolshoi or anything at all, shamelessly gush her achievements to us!  ;) :-*

Aw, heck....

I'm not very good at this speechafyin' business, so I'll just say a warm thank you to all who supported me over 2007, and for all the wonderful feedback you've given me. I found 2007 much tougher in terms of being "in the groove" as far as writing goes, so it's immensely gratifying to know that you're generally enjoying what I do. CHEERS!

First big round of applause to my Aussie compadre, Mr McAuthor. If anyone deserves plaudits for consistently funny, inspiring and technically excellent work, it's Stu. I honestly thought I'd at best be tailgating him to the podium, such is the impact he has made (10 medals MUST be a record). Stu, you are a gentleman and a scholar, and it's always been a pleasure....don't stay away too long.

Secondly, a big mexican wave for Big Phil Alexander, who has an uncanny ability to move between subtle eloquence and bawdy ribaldry effortlessly, and who (as Stu has already suggested) has more originality in his little finger than Weird Al has in his whole body (plus entourage)....you, sir, are a parody giant.

Thirdly, a huge debt of gratitude to Matty who has run SOTM with skill and intelligence (at the same time managing to run the Decathlon: phew!), and to Dave for his stats and general "I'll help" attitude. You guys are GREAT!

Mucho kudos to all who entered SOTM this year. We've seen some of the very best work produced by certain individuals, new contributors to the comp making huge impacts, and a general rise in the level of confidence and risktaking. You all should be immensely proud of what you've produced. A virtual beer, wine or softdrink of your choice to each and everyone of you...on me.

I, like Stu, am not sure how much of a presence I'm going to be in SOTM 2008...but I think I said that last year. I'm kind of at a crossroads as to what this year's got in store for me, and may be making some big decisions. But hey, I'll play it by ear.

I'll sign off now. Once again....thanks.

K

I don't think I should have read Stu's and Kristof's posts... there's only a normal sized door to this room, and I don't think my head will fit through ;)  And the football's started..

Congratulations to everyone for a remarkably good year, but especially Kristof & Stu.  The bastards.  The number of times I thought I had a sure-fire winner, until I read theirs..

Stu - I know what the time pressure is like: only the one job, now, but more children to run around after.  But I find that I can't stop writing the parodies: if I don't get them down on paper, they keep going round and round my head until I do.  (The fall in my output recently is partly to do with a lack of time to finish some of these.. I have a few dozen incomplete, much more than usual, but also the musical which is taking up what free time I have.  But that's another story.)
