Matty,
I know it's kind of a competition standard now to have a top 5 vote, but.....

With only 7 entrants in the comp, how would you feel about reducing the vote to Top 3? With the Top 5 system in this case, only one entry per voter is going to miss out on getting points, which would make it blindingly clear to that entrant that they were on the bottom of the pile. At least with a top 3 vote, you can convince yourself that you may have been a close fourth....
In the early days of SOTM, it was always top 3...this was only increased to 5 due to the huge surge in popularity of the comp.

I also understand that with a top 5 framework, everybody's got a better chance of at least picking up some points: but my thoughts on this are that in most competitions, only the top few get the votes...

So you've got pros and cons on both sides to consider, buddy. Whatever you decide is cool, dude....it's your comp!

How about a Top 4?

That means two people are left off the voting, while 4 people still get your vote? 3 seems a bit too small... It's hard enough to place 5 in a 7 man contest, going through all of these and only picking 3 would be murder.

I think 4 is a pretty reasonable number to work with.

I have my 4 placers in mind, but I'm not sure what point values they will be assigned, if any.  ???

I will edit this post if a determination for point values is made, but you can easily take my selections as 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th prizes.

1st=Invisible Boy stepped up to the challenge with aplomb (without any complaints, I might add, unlike yours truly, who actually selected "Ready Or Not Here I Come"  :D) . I personally couldn't think of an idea besides perhaps a list song about groceries for some reason, but IB brought an original idea to the plate, carried it through to a logical conclusion and changed almost every word for every "5-10-15..." chorus. Just totally WOW!

2nd=Below Average Dave took a difficult song, with short but long-vocalized, drawn-out verses and a killer rap verse, and didn't pull any punches.

3rd=Matthias is the current king of rap parody as far as I'm concerned. A bit too much "white & nerdy" territory in the latter 3rd of the parody, but he carried it through.

4th=Kristof surprisingly is placing 4th in this round for my vote. The tough battle for this tune was the constant similar rhymes in many of the lines, but as always, he makes every line count.

-4 Points: Invisible Boy (Like I said boy, This was one of the most impressive, and most hilarious peices that I've read in a very long time. I still can't believe that you pulled this song off it seemed IMPOSSIBLE... Hmmmm... I think it's time to challange you in Cat's Challange Thread.)

-3 Points: Below Average Dave (Some amazing rhyming here Dave. I can't believe you accomplished this either, I only heard Blondie's pop songs before this contest, and wow... That song was just.... wow.... What was she going on about anyways?)

-2 Points: Agrimorfee (Professor Agrimorfee is back in the class room, you have a way of making educational parodies fun. Like "Mud Skipper" and "SLC" this one teaches while at the same time being fun)

-1 Point: Kristof Robertson (I can relate to this one man. I had an evil roommate 3 semesters ago...)

What I liked about this contest was that luck did play a small part. I enjoyed working on Dave's OS, but secretly I would've loved to have had a chance at one of the rap tunes....oh well... ::)

3 pts: Stove-meisters Phys Ed flops (#3)

2 pts: BADman's breakages (#6)

Thanks for all the support you've all given me so far in this round.

Judging is never easy. This round was especially tough for me because everyone did a lot of work on very difficult songs that were picked by us with the intention of driving each other crazy. To earn a 4 or a 1 or no points at all doesn't reflect a lack of appreciation for what everyone did (yeah...yeah..."we wish they could all be winners..." shut-up IB!!)

But seriously, I do want to say that I got lucky here. If I had been assigned one of the rap songs, I would have been dead. I think that upbeat, funny and even goofy songs often make funnier parodies.

Also, for five years in a row (10 years ago) I did go to Vegas "with the guys" and I had that experience to draw from. One year my friend won a lot of money and we all went to a club called Crazy Horse II. We had so many dances that I think I wore-out my best pair of pants, and at the time thought I would need skin grafts :-)

Anyway...after much consideration (and laughter...)

4 points to BAD

3 points to Agrimorfee

2 points to Matthias

1 point to C of P

Kristof...thanks for a very funny write and for once telling me to..."take the bouquets and the brickbats...and most of all, ENJOY IT!" (P.S. WTF is a "brickbat" ?)

Jack...thanks for a great job

(boy does this post sound corny...sorry)
