Karaoke Revolutionized

Week Two
Ben E King's "Stand By Me"

Karaoke Revolutionized is an ongoing project that allows parodists the opportunity to parody popular songs that they wouldn't ordinarily take a look at, especially the older folks on this site who generally stick to 60's and 70's hits. This project follows the famous games that allow players to sing along to their favorite songs, using microphones that hook up to the Playstation 2. Usually all big top Billboard hits, with on the rare occasion a few exceptions.

This week's song is "Stand By Me" by the musician Ben E King

A little information on Ben E King...

- Ben E King is a famous soul singer of the 60's

-Ben E King was one of the principle lead singers of the legendary R&B group "The Drifters"

- His hits include...
    - "Stand By Me"
    - "There Goes My Baby"
    - "This Magic Moment"
    - "Save The Last Dance For Me"

A little information on the song "Stand By Me"...

- The song is inspired by a traditional Gospel song of the same name, originally composed by Charles A. Tindley in 1905.

- According to the documentary History of Rock 'n' Roll, King had no intention of recording the song himself when he wrote it. King had written the song for The Drifters, who passed on the chance to record it.

Lyrics:

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, oh I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

So darling, darling
Stand by me, oh stand by me
Oh stand, stand by me
Stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry
No I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darling, darling
Stand by me, oh stand by me
Oh stand now, stand by me
Stand by me

Darling, darling
Stand by me, oh stand by me
Oh stand now, stand by me, stand by me
Whenever you're in trouble would you stand by me
Oh stand by me, oh stand now, stand, stand by me

Here's one for you people stuck in the 60's and 70's... Perhaps this one will get more attention than Simple Plan (Or as Aggy calls them "A Simple Plan"), because Ben E King is a much older and much more popular musician than Simple Plan.

I would not have suspected this song to appear in this project. I really thought you were going to stick with more recent tunes, but now I am getting the gist of your methods (I don't have Karaoke Revolution home, nor am I very familiar with it).

I'll give it a shot anyway.  8)

I'm not going to have the time to write it because I'll be spending the next week busy in the desert of California with limited internet access.  But I offer to anyone the following title sub.

" Banned by 'G' " (as in Chucky G) as a parody about either past banned parodists (like Linda Terhune) or perhaps soon-to-be-banned parodist Dr Music.

I was hanging out with Below Average Dave yesterday and I felt like taking my own stab at doing a video so here's the one for "Spammed By Me" it's not as good as Dave's, because I had a cold and I also didn't know my lyrics or the original song as Dave knows his lyrics and the original song... Cut me song slack it's my first actual music video...
