Karaoke Revolutionized

Week Eight
Nickleback's "Photograph"

Karaoke Revolutionized is an ongoing project that allows parodists the opportunity to parody popular songs that they wouldn't ordinarily take a look at, especially the older folks on this site who generally stick to 60's and 70's hits. This project follows the famous games that allow players to sing along to their favorite songs, using microphones that hook up to the Playstation 2. Usually all big top Billboard hits, with on the rare occasion a few exceptions.

This week's song is "Photograph" by the artist Nickleback

A little information on Nickleback...

- Nickelback is a Canadian post-grunge band formed in Hanna, Alberta by Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and then-drummer Brandon Kroeger (the current drummer of Nickelback being Daniel Adair).

- The band is one of the most popular of the modern post-grunge genre, along with groups such as 3 Doors Down and Daughtry, performing in a significantly more radio-friendly style than the traditional, early 1990s grunge music era.

- The band's name originates from the nickel in change that band member Mike Kroeger gave customers at his Starbucks job—he would frequently say, "Here's your nickel back".

- Their hits include...
    - "Rockstar"
    - "How You Remind Me"
    - "Animals"
    - "Someday"
    - "Far Away"

A little information on the song, "Photograph"...

- The song is an up-tempo track reminiscent of country music.

- Presumably, its lyrics look back at the adolescence of frontman Chad Kroeger, who was responsible for writing the song.

- In 2007, "Photograph" was covered by The Chordials, an a cappella group at Cornell University. In that same year "Photograph" was voted the fifth most annoying song of all time in a Rolling Stone poll.

Lyrics:

Look at this photograph
Everytime I do it makes me laugh
How did our eyes get so red
And what the hell is on Joey's head

And this is where I grew up
I think the present owner fixed it up
I never knew we'd ever went without
The second floor is hard for sneaking out

And this is where I went to school
Most of the time had better things to do
Criminal record says I broke in twice
I must have done it half a dozen times

I wonder if it's too late
Should i go back and try to graduate
Life's better now than it was back then
If I was them I wouldn't let me in

Oh, oh, oh
Oh, god, I

Every memory of looking out the back door
I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye.
Every memory of walking out the front door
I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye.

Remember the old arcade
Blew every dollar that we ever made
The cops hated us hangin' out
They say somebody went and burned it down

We used to listen to the radio
And sing along with every song we know
We said someday we'd find out how it feels
To sing to more than just the steering wheel

Kim's the first girl I kissed
I was so nervous that I nearly missed
She's had a couple of kids since then
I haven't seen her since god knows when

Oh, oh, oh

I miss that town
I miss the faces
You can't erase
You can't replace it
I miss it now
I can't believe it
So hard to stay
Too hard to leave it

If I could I relive those days
I know the one thing that would never change

Every memory of looking out the back door
I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye.
Every memory of walking out the front door
I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye.

Look at this photograph
Everytime I do it makes me laugh
Everytime I do it makes me...

Got some tenderness from a heat rash
How did my thighs get so red?
Must be too much inbetween my legs"

Listened to Nickelback
I have to say this song is crap
Why did they become a band?
When everything they sing is bland

Run with it if you want...

I didn't consider what an epic song this was until I actually started to work on it. It was easier to do after I figured that each verse should sketch a character.

The original song is "Photograph" not "Autograph"... You might want to get Chucky to fix that, or knowing your distaste for the original song you can choose to leave it alone, and hope not to get Nickelback's autograph.
