Song Of The Month Contest

~~Entries begin after the last parody update of the month.

~~Any song that is posted on AmiRight during the contest month (this year) is eligible.

~~To enter, reply to this thread with the url of your entry.

~~On the eighth day of the month, entries close and voting begins.

~~Vote by replying to voting thread with your five favorites in order:
Top choice gets 5 points, next gets 4 points and so on to 1 point for your fifth favourite.

~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.

~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.

~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.

~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest past or present may vote.

~~By entering, you are agreeing to read and comment on all the other entries and vote.

~~Anyone who enters but does not both comment on all entries and vote before the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month, and the votes they gave are canceled.

~~When the new month begins, the first person to enter the next contest may copy this message and start the new entry thread with it.

~~Rule changes may be suggested by any participant in their entry post.  Changes are made only when a majority of that month's voters specify a "yes" vote along with their contest votes.

February wasn't a particularly epic month for me... Pretty slow actually so I guess I'll go with one of my songs from my "Parodies Rock" project...

Rule proposal:  I think most of us feel the best part of the contest is the feedback we get from other writers, so to exclude participants hurts us at least as much if not more than the people who miss the deadline.  I'd like to propose that if people who miss the deadline for voting can comment on all of the songs before the next month's entry deadline, they can enter the that month. Points from the DQed month are still forfeited (copied from posts from the January voting thread).

It took me three read throughs to understand what Jeff was saying here...(sometimes I'm just not as smart as I pretend to be)...but I finally got it.  And I'm fine with that... :)

Awful month for me, that's all I have...

Been out of this for a while - what with work, children, performing, fixing the ****ing car and more work, I've not had a huge amount of time...

And I'd vote YES, but if I'm technically correct, the vote would need to pass before my vote would count and so would then be a vote for an already-effective rule. HA, I hope my vote counts.

Welcome to the site, Kevin. To enter February SOTM, the entry has to be submitted and posted on the site (amiright) in that month. Your parody was posted on March 2nd, so you'll have to wait until the March SOTM to enter that parody.

You parody "Gaping Hole in My New Car" qualifies for the February SOTM (it was posted February 27th, 2009) however this one and the other are both in March, which means when the March SOTM entry thread is posted, you may enter either one of them or any new song you write this month at that time, however if you would like to enter "Gaping Hole in My New Car" ( http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/taylorswift6.shtml ) you most certainly may

Commenting on each song is done after the thread is posted, though you are welcome to get a head start.  After you've read and commented on each parody you get to vote for your 5 favorites in the manner you did on the Artistry thread (5 points, 4 points. . .etc)  At the end of the month, the SOTM host (which is currently myself) adds up the points for each entrant, and the parodies are ranked.  Any entrant who did not vote before the end of the month will have to forfeit their points, but the top three entries at the end of the month are entered in the Song of the Year thread for 2009 after the years has ended.  Additionally all entrants points count towards their personal totals towards the Author of the Year, and even those who earn zero points are added to the history of SOTM and get a lot of incite on what is good and what could be worked on in their parody.  Welcome to SOTM, please let me know if you want to enter Gaping Hole in My New Car, since it does qualify for this month. . .
