Subject: May 2009 SOTM RESULTS POSTED

Written By: jreuben on 06/09/09 at 9:50 am

Note to new participants: Welcome, and good luck. Please read all guidelines carefully. Especially, please make sure to read all the entries and vote by the end of the month. The SOTM is not so much a contest as a feedback exchange. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, either in this thread or via personal message. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

~~Vote by replying to this thread with your five favorites in order:
1st choice- 5 points
2nd place- 4 points
3rd place- 3 points
4th place- 2 points
5th place- 1 point.

~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.

~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.

~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.

~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.

~~By entering, you are agreeing to read and comment on all the other entries and vote.

~~Anyone who enters but does not both comment on all entries and vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month, while all points will be forfeited, an entrant who has been disqualified may still participate next month if (s)he goes back and comments on all entrants from the month (s)he got disqualified prior to the end of the entry field (s)he is trying to get involved in.

~~In the event of a tie, the parody with the most first place votes wins.
If it's still tied, the parody with the most second place votes wins. and so on
If the points total and votes are identical, it will be left as a legitimate tie

~~Any entrant whose votes don't show a time stamp prior to midnight on the last day of the month (ie. according to the "inthe00's meantime" clock as it appears BEFORE you log in - not a timezone corrected version) is disqualified, no exceptions.

~~A medal known as the FUCA shall be awarded to the highest ranking parody which did not make the month's podium and is of an original song which has not previously earned any medal

Know Your Enemy was removed due to copyright. F*ck WMG! Sick money-worshippers!  >:(

I'm a little slow this month because things are so busy and fun, but I've checked out the two Delilahs and tried checking this one out.

Good luck to everybody!  :)

It was a bit of a doozy  :D, but I got them all read, rated, and commented -- FINALLY!  http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/02/buck.gif

This was a little hard to rank them all 'cause they were all so good. But let's start with the honorable mentions:

Arwen stuck it to the world of late-night soft-rock radio by telling Delilah that she "missed the point so thoroughly" when she "Played Don't Stand So Close to Me."

Mark Scotti added a Griswold-ian twist to the traditional Memorial Day family barbecue.

Agrimorfee took us to a world of pure imagination.

Peter Andersson made me laugh with his song's crazy lyrics, even when I'm not exactly sure what the song was about. That was a fun read.

And last but certainly not least... Weird Abbot Skelding pointed out how simple it was to parody Green Day, but depending on the song, it's not as easy as it looks. Trust me on this one.  ;) Surely, you remember Nickelodeon Idiot.

And now, on to the winners:

1 Shot to birthday boy Matthias
2 Hobbits-es to Jeff the White
3 more 3-D concerts to the anti-Disney Silver Power
Yottsu (4) Super Sentais to EmiLoca (ironically, the Japanese are superstitious of the number four... oh well  ;D)
And a 5-minute bathroom break for K.K. Downing's vacation photos

There we go. Done and done. Again, good luck to everybody! Have fun!  :)

This was really hard for me...I had a really LONG short list.  It would be helpful for me...in the future...if you guys would just be a little less talented.  At least every other month.  You know...kind of like me.  ;)

Anyway...here goes...

5 points for EmiLoca...who I aspire to be like one day... :)
4 points for Invisible Boy
3 points for Jefferoo
2 points for Phil

My top five:

5 points to Jeff Reuben, three of which he is required to share with his blond mullet.  Just ridiculous enough to be laugh-out-loud funny.
4 points to Phil Alexander for this month's WTF moment.
3 points to Arwen for taking on the most aurally revolting woman on the radio and making her FABulous.
2 points to Invisible Boy. I'm a sucker for "balloons" parodies and he handled it with wit and, uh, brutal honesty.
1 point to Matthias for tackling a difficult OS (along with his best friend, the topless chick from Delta Phi, the table lamp, etc.)

Honorable Mentions to CoP and Agrimorfee.

This was seriously tough. . .

Hard friggin cut was Arwen. . .I loved yours--like I said, you had some fantastic lines, but you know how that is, I love you work in general. . .

1 Point to EmiLoca: I really loved this one, I can't believe I was only able to give it one point--certainly not on your end, just one of those months where it was hard to rate

2 Points to Matthias: Ditto what I said to Emi, if the rhymes where slightly stronger, maybe a spot higher, either way--epic job on my top epic 40 pick.

3 Points to Jeff Reuben: You maximized this crap of an OS. . .hilarious video, hilarious recording, but that's not what got my vote, you mixed not so original (Redneck) with not so original (Wizard) and got holy flipping crap funny (Redneck Wizard)  Hilarious write!

4 Points to  Phil Alexander: Not much to say here, you had me cracking up the whole time on this over-parodied classic--you seem to do best with the songs that are hit the most

5 Points to Invisible Boy: just amazing--that's all there is to it

I know I didn't have to vote, since I sat out for the first time since December 2006, but I wanted to vote because there were so many awesome parodies this month, good luck everyone!

-11th Place (5 points): Agrimorfee
-12th Place (4 points): Weird Abbott
-13th Place (0 points): Chris Bodily TM

I was going to say that others still have an hour to vote.  Then BAD voted to make my point :)  So the totals aren't final.

Also, IB had 26 before Dave's votes, not 22

True... But I wanted to go to bed... And didn't expect anybody who wasn't in the competition to vote (Heh, heh, heh)

If somebody else can post the votes I'll be grateful since I have work tomorrow, but I'll join in next month and see you all then.

I'm suprised that I got seventh, given most of my points were 1 points (except K1chyd who gave me four points - cheers!).

But mate, that's why it's set up with voting for more than just the favorite, see a lot of people liking something a little means it has 'broad appeal'--it's what makes a voting system like this work so well.  Sure the 5 and 4 points are the big takers, but there have been months were the winner has no first place votes, or even to where the fourth place entrant had more 1st place votes than any of the top 3, so regardless of how it gets there--it's the final number that matters (unless it's a tie--then it matters how it gets there of course--but that's beside the point)

Have to admit that when I saw the results, I did think "What, the FUCA?"

...couldn't believe Hey There Delilah hadn't done something in the past.. thanks all who voted for me, and congrats to the rest of you: it was an interesting month.  Very well done EmiLoca for pipping Jeff & IB in the closest race for quite a while - they've both been very strong (& extremely funny), recently.

Congrats to Emi, Jeff, IB and Philbo! I really didn't get the winner this time but apparently that was a two-way dilemma since so many didn't get my entry, kind of a surprise, it's not the first parody about Noah's Ark on the site, or in the SOTM methinks.

See you all next month!  :)
