Subject: Genre Hero Round 2 - 80s Power Ballads (Deadline: New Years Day)

Written By: DJ Blaze on 12/17/09 at 8:16 pm

The second round is here. Get out your lighters, cause its time for 80s power ballads.

Rules:
1. Post the link (and YouTube if you want) to the parody and original song
2. Voting begins on the 28th
3. KAMEN RIDER!
4. The voting thread will further explain voting, which is SOTM-style
5. Late entries are accepted until the first vote is cast

Possible artists:
Whitesnake
Poison
Journey
Boston (80s only, though)

If in doubt about your song choice, ask!

I think that I'm going to do a parody of Poison's "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" or perhaps "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey

What defines a "power ballad"? I've heard the phrase many times, but the way it's been used never made it obvious what the feck it actually is. Any pointers?

Sorry, but I think Don't Stop Believing doesn't count. Power ballads are slower songs.

How about "I Want To Know What Love Is" by Foreginer?

Sorry. You must be referring to Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing". I'll take that and "Silent Lucidity" off the list.

As well as Sonata Arctica's version of "Still loving you" because I'm not sure when Sonata started but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the 80s...

Sonata formed in the 90s, back when they were "Tricky Means". I'll remove it, just wanted to see if anyone had heard of them :D I'm a huge foreign metal nerd.

Aw, but that was the only one one that list that I knew (the Aerosmith one that is)! Dang it.

Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart
Faster Pussycat's House of Pain
Ozzy Osbourne's Shot in the Dark
Bon Jovi's Wanted Dead or Alive
Foreigner's I Want to Know What Love Is
Journey's Open Arms
Def Leppard's Hysteria
Europe's Carrie
Poison's Something to Believe In
Slaughter's Fly to the Angels
Dokken's Alone Again
Whitesnake's Is This Love
Whitesnake's Here I Go Again
Scorpions' Wind of Change
Motley Crue's Home Sweet Home
REO Speedwagon's Keep on Lovin' You
The Bangles' Eternal Flame
Survivor's Burning Heart
Cheap Tricks' The Flame
Boston's Amanda
Queen's Who Wants to Live Forever
KISS' Forever
ZZ Top's Rough Boy
Van Halen's Why Can't This Be Love
Motley Crue's Without You
Twisted Sister's The Price
Mr. Mister's Broken Wings

I can probably name a thousand more. . .I will be joining this round once I see 5 other confirmed entrants, same would have been true of the previous round, but I don't tend to join contests with less than 5 other entrants. . .just kind of a personal thing,

DJ Blaze, I hope you try this again when less is going on in the contest boards. . .I think it has promise, but when contests are rushed unfortunately sometimes people get burnt out. . .if this round has very few entrants, I personally would try again after Matthias' Decathlon is over, as POTQ is not coming back next year, and ABC is reducing it's rounds and increasing its voting period considerably.  I'd say after Artisty is over, but it's only about half way, so you'd have quite a wait ahead of you.

Dave, you've given me some great hope. I might postpone future rounds until after Decath. And great power ballads.

Hey, I've done two of those for Artistry! I may chose one of the first two, the first one will also knock off one of the Epic 40 (I'm still keeping track of that because I'm mad). Hmmm...

I'm out of time. Time to do something I'd normally be ashamed of: entering a previous song!
