A new contestant!!!!!! GREAT!  8)

But Onslaught, something is wrong with your parody link. Try again by removing the extra "http://" in the URL.

"I saw Miley twerking Santa Claus"
http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/traditional2237.shtml

The original's a Traditional with two basic verses, at least in my native language, but here's a recording where they're repeated more than necessary:

"I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus"

Sorry Peter, but it is not a traditional tune, here is the original from 1952: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7t8YTbQSQc.
Maybe you can spice it up with a "Director's Extended Cut".  ;)

I think we forgot to set up a voting thread... I see this being the end of SOTM, Nobody really cares enough about it anymore...

No! We have to keep this competition alive! Yes, the number of entrants has dipped over this past year, but disbanding the comp. won't help. I think we should keep going and hope that the participation picks up. What say you, brethren?!

I say at least finish the year before determining whether to end the SOTM competition.

You know this is something I have been alluding to in the last round, and in this one. It used to be a fierce competition, with the likes of Spaff.com, Johnny D, Stu McArthur, Rick Duncan, Arwen, Pippin & Merry, Alvin Rhodes, TJC etc giving their all. Now it's just us 4 or 5 guys regularly in SOTM, ABC and Artistry all the time. Not to say the quality hasn't dipped, but there just isn't enough VOICES, enough joie de vivre anymore. Rex Ungericht seems to have disappeared, BAD had his personal issues, and now Tommy Turtle has passed on recently.  I guess times have changed for a lot of people over the past half-decade or so when this place was at its peak. I hate to be a downer, but the everyday clever, goodtime vibe of amiright has kinda gotten zapped, too. I rarely read any other material here except for competition material. Tell me, if you were a newbie visiting, would you be impressed with the almost-daily ramblings of Fack Sabbath and Robert Arndt, Jr.?

Hey now! Conqueror and I post new songs all the time as well. I have at least 2 new songs up per week and so does Conqueror so we have more than just the two being regulars but honestly I agree with you. There are no more Stuart McArthurs or Kristof Robertsons or Spaffs or Claud Prezs out there anymore and it's painful to see especially when you're good friends with some of these people and you hardly hear from them anymore. Even people like 2nz and Jeff Reuben who have been contributing more lately seem to have disappeared. Amiright needs some more publicity in my personal opinion but I have no idea where it could come from...

Well, the SOTM is 9 years and 10 months old already, if we manage to run the November and the future December rounds full course we'll have made it a full 10 year going thing before it's cancelled. A nice round number. I'll promise to come up with something over the last days of the year and be in the next, possibly last round, for old times sake.

Hmm... thinking out loud here... Matthias, I don't know of course but I suspect you're the one who's still in some sort of contact with more of the "older" writers than anyone else here is. How about you try to send those you can reach an invite to submit something over the last ten days of the year now so they then can sign up and be in "the last SOTM round ever" for old times sake. I'm sure some of them will respond, it'll be kind of like a homecoming party in January during the voting process, then at least the SOTM will go out with style!  :)

I agree with retiring the SOTM Challenges. Ten years does seem like a good ending point...and it would be nice to have one last big hurrah for the final December. It's a shame that it should (has to) end, but I agree that if only the same 5 people are entering, it doesn't really have the same appeal it had.

Now, as far as the Artistry competition goes...I think it's okay that only five artists are entering every round. Yeah, it'd be nice to have more...but I think the five of us are each really good in our own ways and I think this is a good (and long) way to figure out who has what it takes to go the distance and be the "best" (note: since the beginning of the competition, I have been keeping track of points and podium placements). Sorry, wrong topic...

But yeah, I think the SOTM has run its course. Maybe we give it a year hiatus and bring it back in 2015?

I am in agreeance with Abbott overall with the above post. If the rest of us are in agreement, I propose we finish out this month with style and grace, then after finishing add a post in Contests forum. It would be fair I think to at least bring it to people's attention.

Subject: "SONG OF THE MONTH TO BE PLACED ON HOLD--PLEASE READ",
with a message like "Due to lack of participation, we (our names added here) have agreed that SOTM will be placed on hiatus for the indefinite future, after nearly 10 years of inthe00s-member created rules and policies. We do not believe there is sufficient interest in the contest..." some hopes that interest can grow in the future, a couple nice things to say about past winners, yada yada...

I would like to volunteer to write that, if it comes to that point.

I am Facebook friends with Rick Cormier, and I messaged him (along with birthday greetings) what his feelings were about Amiright, since he hasn't posted here in ages, but I have not had any reply as of now.

Artistry keeps my parody-writing muscles flexed.

I feel bad for you Onslaught with the late-breaking enthusiasm you have brought here, and now ending up feeling like you jinxed something. :-X. I do recommend you look to the Artistry and ABC comps on the boards where we do have fun and feedback.

Well done for keeping it going for such a long time, everyone :)

..what I'm doing now is trying to work out which of the other old farts left a message on this year's Christmas parody, directing me here..

As someone who bowed out of the competitions a long time ago - I'm still writing parodies, but at a far lower rate because typically I'm writing for performance now, and while it may only take a few minutes to write something, it takes me hours to learn the buggers.. and also about half my output is original songs rather than parodies... and I'm spending a very high proportion of my free time gigging, leaving even less for writing.

It'd be a bit of nostalgia - if there's going to be a December SOTM, and it looks like the last one (at least for a while), then I'll throw my hat into the ring.  I'll even try to refrain writing a "Be our guest" parody for the occasion, as that'd be a bit too clichéd :)
