Subject: Show Us Places You've Been To

Written By: ultraviolet52 on 10/11/07 at 2:39 pm

So, we show photos of where we live, what we look like, etc. But what about our travels around the world and unique spots we've been to. Show us your own photos or photos you've found online of famous spots or not so famous spots. This might spark some interest in some people who are seeking some cool vacation spots  :)

Here's a picture of the beautiful Peloponnes peninsula, in Greece...

My parents used to bring me and my brothers here when we were much younger...and this is the area where I first started learning how to swim!  :)

Wow, Karen, this is beautiful. It seems you've been surrounded by lots of beautiful beaches a good portion of your life! Now THAT's where I'd like to learn how to swim  :)  ;D

Lake Shasta - Northern California. I was here in 1988. We spent a week or two on a houseboat trolling the lake. Some days were fun, other days were a bit boring, but the scenery was always nice!

I love Lake Shasta. We used to go there every summer when my grandfather was alive, and we went there a couple of times in 2005. I would so love to move there and just live on the lake in a houseboat or have a cabin somewhere. It is freakin' gorgeous. Actually, the whole Shasta Trinity forest and surrounding areas (including the Sac. River) is just utterly beautiful. I feel so at peace when I'm up that way.

God, I miss it. :P

Yes, now that I see more pics of it, I have come to realise how beautiful it really is! When I was there, I was 6 years old and it was September, so there wasn't as much greenery, but the lake was always blue and the mountain was always in the background. Our houseboat also had my Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles and cousins.

Pittsburgh is beautiful at night! My cousin's grandmother lived just outside Pittsburgh, but she has since passed on. I've never been, but hope to make it a vacation destination one of these days!

The cathedral in Savannah is gorgeous! Wow, I hope to visit there someday, too!

And, I always love seeing those cute kid pics! Love those poses!

Here is a picture of where my Half-Brother lives in East Berlin.

He grew up on the West side of the wall but property is so much cheaper on the East side. You can't actually see where he lives, that is Landsberger Allee trainstation (S-Bahn, the above ground railway) he lives about 500 yards further down the street but the buildings are essentially the same, communist chique.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/bb/S-Bahn_Berlin_Landsberger_Allee_total.jpg/793px-S-Bahn_Berlin_Landsberger_Allee_total.jpg

Boy, this is the best I could find for where I used to live - Aurora; Illinois, home of Wayne's world.

http://www.barraclou.com/photo/highway/05aurora.jpg

Pont d'arc.

This is not far from where my parents have a holiday home in the Ardeche Gorge in France. It's beautiful.

http://www.archmillennium.net/images/pont_d_arc.jpg

Tallinn; Estonia, where my good friend Andre Yule lives and by far the single most bizarre country I have ever visited.

http://www.estonia.gov.uk/static/files/038/t2_port_of_tallinn.jpg

Podgorica in Montenegro, the city itself is certainly nothing special, but some good friends live there and run a video store (still with the VHS) so I visited and stayed with them and explored the rest of Montenegro from there.
Here is the beautiful part -

It wasn't very chic when they got it. The first year we went there we camped the whole time whilst me and my Dad worked fixing it up because it was falling to pieces. A lot of people from the UK bought holiday homes in the south of france a decade or so ago because rural property was insanely cheap, I think they paid the equivalent of about $11,000 for a 4 room building, there's a small town nearby with different shops, a boulangerie etc and it's about a 5 minute walk from the river.

this is the coolest place I've ever been to...Yosemite National Park in California and the mountain of granite in the pic is the famous Half Dome. Me & my friend hitchiked with our backpacks, got a ride to the park and spent a week there which is when we climbed it & looked over the edge. I think I was 18 years old. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/30/45975337_e1092eef44.jpg?v=0

from the Yosemite Valley, it's a little over 17 miles to get to the top and back, but if you camp at Little Yosemite, then the hike is half as long. http://l.yimg.com/www.flickr.com/images/spaceball.gif

when you arrive at the base of the monolith, you then use the cables embedded into the rock for the final ascent to the summit

tokjct has done this climb/hike more recently and Diane wants to do it for her 50th birthday. Is she nuts or what  :D  we'll have to wait and see what kind of shape we are both in, in the year 2009. anyway, if you ever come to California and wanna see someplace really special, this is the place.

it is super neat and somewhat scary. I don't like heights but I was young and brash and fiery & it was was quite an experience.  we were up there partying. we went up about twice every summer to party and try to meet chicks. me & my friends got kicked out of that place one summer, can you believe that sh*t? kicked out of a National Park.  ??? if you guys come back home and wanna do a day trip, you can take Amtrak to Merced, then a 1 hour bus ride with a tour guide to the park where you take a tram for a 2 hour tour of the park, it brings you back to the lodge where you can get lunch, shop and then get back on your bus and back on the train home, all in 1 day. me & Diane & Julie did that once in the mid 90's I got it on video. it was fun.
