Yes that part does really suck.  But I live on gravel roads, that are poorly maintained in the snow, rain etc... So they are so rough, that I need something that can travel through them.  I had a Windstar minivan before, and it never got stuck, but I hit some terrible holes and ripped the bumper off...  So I got a 4wd pick up, loved it, but it didn't hold enough kids (only my 2 and hubby, no room for extras) this was next.  I am glad I only work 3 miles from home  8)

That makes sense 2kidsami,
There was a time I lived in the mountains, so up over there, having a good car was quite essential if you wanted to move smooth and safe.
I found there plenty of tourists sleeping in the ditch for to have slipped on the track  ;)
Plus you have plenty of room at your back, I even brought wood to burn and warm home the cold winter days.

Nice car!

My brother has had a couple Mazdas, very nice and reliable cars.

Well dear AL-B, it seems Japan lost the guns' war but won the cars' war  :)
By here Japanese cars is always one of the best choices.
I notice you Americans tend to smaller cars, what nowadays it makes quite sense.
Congratulations for your election  ;)

Well Henk, I hesitated between Mazda, Toyota ( as our friend AL-B advised me)  and Renault.
In the end I fell over the French one, and I'm glad on the choice, after two years of following all kind of tracks it never got me stuck.

No use blanking the plate number since this truck was junked. Her name was Tallulah and she was driven into the ground by 3 owners: a cattle rancher, my dad, and me. I don't own a car now, but loved Tallulah, had to junk her b/c her engine was almost dead and she had close to half a million miles on her body and frame.

Pic was taken near Diamond Peak in Central Oregon, gun rack was for my camera tripod and the walking stick I need on uneven terrain.

Having said that, wished I owned a '71 Firebird or an early 70s Mustang at some point on my life.

When you had the '71 Firebird, was it a convertible? (Looks like you are standing inside the car)

Currently needs all 4 tires, a battery, battery cables and a general minor service, along with lots of cleaning. But aside from a few dents it looks good.

Here is mine.  Hence my username, this is the 4th one of these wagons I've had.  This one is nearly the same as my first car.  30 years old and in near mint condition.  Just taken out for the first time last spring and washed.  Never will be driven in snow.  I've got an old Jeep for that.

My winter vehicle, and my newest vehicle.  1996 Jeep Cherokee, 4.0, 4x4, 5 speed stick.  It was the last year they made them simple to work on.  I also use this in the summer when I need to tow my trailer.  The chipped sidemarker and grille is from when I hit a deer a couple months ago.  Thankfully that's all it did.  The door is a little crooked because hinge failure is common on these so I welded it before it broke, but never got around to shimming the door perfectly straight.  But hey it gets me around nicely in the worst storms.

In about 1-2 months I should be able to take my pretty wagon out.  It's hibernating in the barn, I'm not letting it get driven until the snow is gone and the salt is washed off the roads.  But it's a real treat and a super exciting feeling when I do get to take it out.

I just took this pic.  We have lost a lot of snow but there's a lot more left, and besides winter is far from over.

Nice looking car.  I like the white letter tires.

Thanks. Yes those tires looked really good on it but I had to replace them by now (those are the pictures the dealer posted 3.5 years ago). I've no idea how the previous owner did that but even though they had plenty of tread left they were actually older than the car. :o

Do you know if the 36.2 mpg is different from Germany to USA?

We don't use miles per gallon over here (as we use the metric system which neither knows miles nor gallons). In Germany we measure fuel consumption in liters/100km. So my car consumes 6.5l / 100km and that can be converted to 36.2 mpg for the users of the imperial system.

I currently drive an 07 Nissan Altima. I don't have a picture of it, but it looks something like this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Altima#Fourth_generation_(L32;_2007)

...only the body color is light green.

We bought the car used in 2013 and I have been driving it regularly since late 2016.

Since fuel prices have skyrocketed and global warming is becoming more of a reality here I've adjusted my driving style and get now 42mpg (5,6l/100km) out of that Opel. But that means going really slow on the interstate (95km/h - 59mph indicated) with cruise control. I pretty much pretend to be a semi truck now but it works for me. It only prolongs my 22 miles commute by about 3 minutes or so, so it's not really a big thing. I had not expected that lowering my speed by 9 miles would have that much of an effect but it also means I don't have to change my speed as often as I'm not overtaking anymore .

Back in June, my 2015 Impala sustained severe damage from a hail storm. I got it into a repair shop in the first part of August, but the next day my insurance company informed me that they were declaring it a total loss. I was pretty bummed because I was very fond of that car, but later that day when I called them they told me that I was getting a settlement that was much more generous than I'd expected.

Long story short, my settlement made a nice down payment on a brand new 2022 Chevy Colorado Z71.  8)

I have a story similar to that. My first car was a used 1985 Nissan Sentra. Right after I sent in my last payment in 1988, some idiot rear ended me when I was stopped at a light and I hit the car in front of me and that car hit the car in front of him. My Sentra looked like an accordion and it was a total loss. Of course I got the deed the week AFTER the accident. But, the insurance company paid me a nice sum. I was able to get my next car-a 1987 Nissan Sentra that was a demo car so even though it has some miles on it, I was the original owner and I was able to pay in FULL! And when I was buying it, the woman there was asking me "Are you sure you don't want to make payments?" WHAT?? Why pay interest when you don't have to. Oy vey.

Oh, BTW, nice vehicle.
