Subject: Cook/Bake it and flaunt it!

Written By: quirky_cat_girl on 08/31/08 at 10:48 pm

Here's a place where you can take pics of the food that you bake/cook..and want to show off a bit.

I made some nifty cupcakes this evening, to take to a picnic tomorrow. Have a looksie!

This thread is amusing to me because I took a picture of a loaf of bread that I made and Rice wanted to know WHY.  I said because it was pretty and I wanted a picture of it.  Now I have a place to post it. ;D  Good idea, Erin!

My bread cooling on a rack.

Behold!  These are the awesome loaves of bread that I kneaded with my mixer.  They turned out a lot more airy and perfect from that.  Letting them rise for an hour, punching the sh*t out of it, and then letting them rise for another hour might have helped, too. ;D

One loaf is almost gone. :o

They look good Jess.  I cheat and use a bread maker most of the time so my loaves look weird.

hey, can you make a loaf of sourdough  ::)

All the recipes I've seen for sourdough talk about using some sourdough starter but none tell you how to make the sour dough starter  :-\\

I need to make a starter first.  That'll take awhile. :D

It's not very complicated to start one, but I just haven't done it yet.  Apparently there is a place in San Francisco that has used the same starter dough for about 150 years. :o

Here's a wiki article on it, too:

I love the idea of baking but lord knows I don't have the patience. Anyway great pics all. I love all the sweet stuff best - especially Quirk's cupcakes, but damn Badfinger's lasagne looks good! I like how there's not much cheese on it.

ok, here's the turkey I roasted on Thursday. I always roast breast side down for the first two thirds of the cook time. then in the last hour & a half I flip/manuever it to breast side up to get it all nice and golden brown.

I tried to take pics when they weren't in the kitchen, but Lady Di happened to walk thru as I was pointing the camera at the turkey, she looked at me in bewilderment, said nothing & then turned and walked away. so I think the answer to your question is Yes !  :D

last Friday night I made a MOUNTAIN of egg salad & tuna fish sandwiches for our poker party and they were a hit!  It took about 2 & 1/2 loaves of bread to make all these and I cut them into quarters.
