Went out toward Corvallis, Oregon on the 4th of July and shot photos of abandoned stuff... hope you all like it. :)

Unfortunately, there was a spot on the lens that I didn't realize until after I got home and loaded them on the computer. But, with that barn, it kind gave it an eerie feel. I did take a shot on the inside but it just looks like a white spot. And no, it wasn't ghost-it was a spot on the lens because after we left the barn, I took some shots of a field and it had that same white spot.

I cropped this one so you don't see the spot.

Thanks everyone. FWIW I am going to try to contact the county tax assessor for the county the blue & white International Scout seen in first & last pics to see if the hoarder house it sits in front of is actually abandoned and see if I can buy that Scout. There is also a 1950s International pickup truck in the driveway and some kind of 1960s full-size American convertible hidden in the weeds but for one corner of its windshield and part of the front end, that are sadly too far gone to save.

Thanks for the comment, Dagnabbit (I still love that username)  :)

This was a fun trip, if a little bit uncomfortable because of the heat and humidity and navigating drainage ditches and uneven gravel lots full of broken glass, thistles, spiny weeds and sharp rocks in Crocs.

I have a fondness for abandoned things for whatever reason.  I "subscribe" to a "creepy houses" thread of Facebook that post hundreds of old abandoned houses, all of which I would love to live in.

Great pictures everyone.  I have some myself somewhere... not sure where...  My mom and dad have an abandoned barn on their property, I'll see if I can find a picture.  Also, hubby and I took photos of an abandoned garage/barn that kinda looked nice.  I'll post them too.

This is the one I took:

This is the one hubby took on the way back through there a few minutes later:

I found this barn in my travels, it looks abandoned.

Thanks! This is an abandoned general store & gas station that also once housed a nursery school for a nearby early 20th-century church and has been abandoned for over 20 years. Agreed there... I spent about half an hour getting pics, not all turned out...

I find your photos interesting, in fact moving, similar to photos from the dust bowl and the depression years, but I have to wonder, given other posts you have made, if they are about art or about your state of mind.  If the later, might I suggest that you talk to someone, a counselor, a clergy, a shrink?  Seems to me you have much to be joyful about, certainly a very lovely girlfriend, lots of talent as a photog, I'm sure more.  Just my thoughts

Thanks. They are about a little of both, someone on deviantART said my work fluctuated with my moods, and I've started going to support group meetings that I have been able to share in and feel great in, I'm a little new to be meeting people tho. Thing is that I have been dealt a pretty bad hand in life (school district ignoring my needs and not giving early intervention for autism and developing psychiatric issues or offering any intervention beyond 2 school psychologists who weren't really effective, poor parenting and incompetent parents, being bullied and trolled for years, and really bad post-traumatic stress from being in the Oregon State Hospital and an abusive group home), and my psychiatrist helps to a degree. And there are people in the world incapable of happiness, I could be one of them.

Again, thanks for being here for me.

Cool photos everyone.  I love seeing pictures of abandoned buildings.  Makes you wonder what they were like back in the day when they were active.

Here is one that I took 2 years ago.  It is the Grand Trunk Railway Station in Ernestown, Ontario.  It was deemed a historic landmark in 1992.  I am unable to find information on when it ceased operation, but I do know that I've lived in the area since 1980 and I don't ever remember it being used

All of the cars there were severely rusted with no usable parts beyond chrome & glass.

Bummer.  Still doesn't take away from the fact that it's a damn good shot of an iconic bit of history, different materials aging differently and collecting different patinas in a way that you can only see after something's been left outdoors for years.  You ever see TTAC?  If there are lots of yards around your neck of the woods, they have an ongoing found-cars-on-the-street and found-cars-on-the-junkyard series.

Lighting or post-processing?  Either way, great work.
Also, it makes one wonder for the owners of the long-forgotten vehicle.  Another 175 miles to rollover.  So close, and yet so far.

Here is one of my favorite abandoned buildings.

Millbrook, NY --

Bennett College for Women was originally built in 1830 as Halcyon Hall, a luxury hotel.  Bennett College moved in in the early 20th century, but eventually went bankrupt and closed its doors in 1978.  The building has been vacant since then.  Unfortunately, the deterioration of the structure is so severe the only thing to do is tear it down.  The county has ordered the property owners to demolish the building a few different times, but the dismantling has always been delayed.  It still stands as a scary looking Gothic hulk and probably will until it collapses.

You can see where the structure is starting to collapse slowly, but the right amount of wind and snow might take it down.  There are pics on the 'net of the interior, but I hope nobody's crazy enough to go inside the place anymore.  You can't see from the photos, but the ruins overlook a playground.  The place nightmares are born, I guess!

What a shame

Yep, I took that (instrument cluster). Both lighting & post-processing...

Sorry for my absence, was on a stressful so-called vacation and had other things going in life, had to take a break from inthe00s and deviantART. Meanwhile I explored an abandoned (probably 20 years or so and exposed to the elements most of that time) cabin that is on the site of a ranch, now owned by a family friend who is a semi-pro photographer recently into real-estate investments. The cabin was the most unstable building I have been in since I explored an abandoned hoarder house in 2007.

Was going to explore more until I put my foot through the kitchen floor.

Cat and Carlos... ever seen the Walloomsac Inn? Incredible history left to rot.
