I spent a day this past Saturday up north for an anniversary celebration. The water there was so clear if you didn't know better you would say it was tropical! I wanted to swim longer, but there wasn't enough time in just one day.  :-\\ This location was Elk Rapids, he lived there for 2 years several years ago. To me this would be paradise!

This photograph from the 1990s is what happens when a Wild West amusement park quietly doesn’t tell the female child visitors that it dresses up that “saloon girl” often meant prostitute.

From last weekend when the bridge was closed due to a bomb threat. One of the only times you will see it totally empty, in good weather that is.

Yeah, I don't think that amusement park mom took me and my sister to or indeed many people who are only familiar with the sanitised image of the Wild West from television realise that saloon girls often were one and the same with a prostitute.

Johnny obviously didn’t realise how dangerous a trucker could be for a hitchhiking girl or woman.

That’s cool! When I went to Minnesota for the car show, I was looking for special signs like that and didn’t see any. But I did see a plain green sign for Wisconsin like you show.

That song has NOTHING to do with women hitchhiking. In fact, the lyrics doesn't even say "hitchhiking." The guy could just be walking when a semi asked if he wanted a ride.

And the point of posting it has NOTHING to do with the dangers of hitchhiking by females as well as by males. The point is about how many miles I have traveled.

Every state has those welcome signs. There are exceptions. Pennsylvania didn't have one on I-86. (Don't know why-maybe they haven't put it up yet.) When we went into North Dakota, we were on a back road and it didn't have one-but I was able to get it when we went to Fort Union Trading Post. It sits on the border of Montana and North Dakota so we went into Montana to get to it and went back into North Dakota (where I got the shot of the sign) before leaving the state completely.

Oh, some of the places we hit:

-Corning Museum of Glass (Corning, NY)
-Great Lakes Museum (Toledo, Ohio)
-Pres. Grant Home (Galena, Ill)
-Hubert Hoover Home (West Branch, Iowa)
-Theodore Roosevelt National Park (North Dakota)
-Fort Abraham Lincoln - Custer House (North Dakota)
-Fort Union Trading Post (North Dakota)
-Little Big Horn (Montana)
-Glacier Park (Montana) Couldn't go in because it was TOO full so we just drove around the park.
-Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River (Washington)
-Crater Lake (Oregon)
-Redwood National Park (California)
-Manzanar, Japanese Interment Camp (California)

We then visited with family in California before heading east again. The only place we stopped on the way home was my sister's in Tulsa. We were "touristed" out by then.
