Subject: Another 70's lyrics quiz - COMPLETE

Written By: FussBudgetVanPelt on 05/31/02 at 06:02 p.m.

UNFORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS ABLE TO GET # 13 (UNLUCKY FOR ALL) :

It was "The Band Played the Boogie" by CCS, a British group, which had a hit with it here is Aus (but apparently not in USA or Britain)

Another quiz to fry the braincells :

Song title and artist please :

Zella  1.  Your dog keeps licking my nose (You Better You Bet - Who)

J.C.  2.  You get too much, you get too high (Love Is Like Oxygen - Sweet)

C'Don  3.  Whiskey bottles piling high, Bootlegging boozer on the west side (Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress - Hollies)

Gambo  4.  I want you here to have and hold, As the years go by, and we grow old and grey (Photograph - Ringo Starr)

J.C.  5.  Girl you were made for me (I Was Made For Loving You - Kiss)

C.L.  6.  And we'll escape the darkness, we won't be searching anymore (The Morning After - Maureen McGovern)

Zella  7.  The party Mary gave for me when I just walked away (Burning Bridges - Mike Curb Congregation)

C.L.  8.  Close the window, come alive (We're All Alone - Rita Coolidge)  NOTE  :  I was thinking of Boz Scaggs but Rita's just as valid

Gambo  9.  It's the weekend, and I know that you're free, So pull on your jeans, and come on out with me (Jeans On - David Dundas)  Zella take note !

C.L.  10.  Didn't see the stop sign, took a turn for the worse (Life In The Fast Lane - Eagles)

Gambo  11.  It made my voice go low, They said they didn't like the young sound (W.O.L.D. - Harry Chapin)

C.L.  12.  When you got a job to do, you gotta do it well (live And Let Die - Wings)

13.  Miss liberation has found herself a man, Take it while it's there, Don't grieve when it's gone

C.L.  14.  And dance 'round the totem pole (I Want To Live In A Wigwam - Cat Stevens)

Zella  15.  Now he walks in quiet solitude (Rocky Mountain High - John Denver)

10. LIfe in the Fast Lane -- Eagles
12. Live & Let Die-- Wings
15. Rocky Mountain High -- John Denver

7. Burning Bridges -- Mike Curb Congregation (Is that really what they say there?) I always thought it was "Bart and Mary came for me but I just walked away" But then, hey, I was only 12...maybe a case for amiright... :D

I am still marking but your Curb question made me wonder :

Au un-named website (see reasons for not naming it below)

has the song with the lyrics I wrote but I am the first to admit that the way I wrote them is how i heard them

Yours make just as much sense Zella

FB  ;)

Modified because I originally had a reference to

www.lyricsdownload.com

as I has searched on google and chosen that one by chance, but had specifically searche dfor burning bridges curb (after having searched only for burning bridges, only to be presented with Garth Brooks EWWWWWW !

Anyway, I found that when you just put in the above link you end up with endless pop-up windows that when you click the 'X' just take you to their next window anyway (messages about upgrading windows yada yada blah blah).

I didn't want people being annoyed with that after I had told them about the link.  >:(

So don't forget ALT-F4 gets rid of those things quite nicely !

So I've been singing it wrong for 31 years!  ::)

That's almost as good as my one and only amiright submission:

"Find a Supreme that don't ask no questions...."

There's some trivia for ya--what is that incorrect lyric from?  ;D

(When I was a child I also thought "Arizona" was "Harriet Nova" and Galveston was "Gone the Sun" -- funny, I later turned out to be really good at geography --who would have guessed?)  ;)

Hi Cat Lover

Nbrs 6, 8, 10, 12 & 14 are all correct.... :)

Nbr 14 may just have been put in there with you in mind....

So the question now is :

Do you have something against odd numbered questions ?

Hi Zella

First the bad news :

Numbers 6, 10 & 12 are all correct, but Cat Lover beat you to them.  Curse that Judge Judy for holding you up !

Numbers 1, 7 & 15 are correct (I had a feeling you'd get Number 7 somehow)

Hi J.C.

Some bad news and some good news :

The bad news :

# 8 is We're all alone, and it was by Rita Coolidge (or Boz Scaggs), but Cat Lover beat you to it

# 3 - I can't confirm your answer as have never heard it, so give yourself a mark.  It's not the particular one I was thinking of though.

The good news :

Numbers 2 & 5 are quite correct

I had the title wrong for #8 anyway. I believe Boz Scaggs wrote it.
Thanks, Fuss Budget for the Skynyrd credit, even though it wasn't the one you were thinking if. ;)

All you english people out there - the only one left was a one hit wonder in your country and mine (but apparently not the USA).

An extra hint - the song also mentioned a "High School Hooker"

The only song I can think of that says: "High School Hooker" is Mott the Hoople's "Pearl and Roy" and I don't think that was a hit anywhere! And the line you give doesn't seem to fit in the song as I remember it. ???

There is no mention of Miss Liberation in Mott the Hoople's "Pearl 'n' Roy", unfortunately.

Zella and Gambo are both correct - but only in as much as that that is not the song !

Philbo or Gis or Bobo (albeit a bit before Bobo's time...) should be able to answer this - where are they ?

Hi Bobo

Long time no hear !  :(

It has nothing to do with Ian Hunter or Mott The Hoopple as far as i'm aware.

Zella should know something about this, as it is a song I have talked to her about it the past, but she claimed to know nothing about it.  But I'm not gonna tell her this directly - it is up to her to make the connection....!
