Subject: Zella's long awaited 1973 lyrics quiz

All of the following songs were out in the year 1973. Some were number one hits; others were quite obscure. Some artists appear more than once in the quiz. I did most of these straight from memory, so if you find an error, please let me know.

As songs are identified, I will put the initials of the identifier in front of the song...

FB1. 110 in the shade, and the pavement was steaming

JC2. Glory sight, got de dawnin' Lordy light the night away

GS3. I can see the red tail lights

FB4. So you hide them when you're able

FB5a. There's an awful lot of words, but there's no communication

FB5b. On the road, hanging by a song

RR6. Your silver tongue has turned to clay

BB/JC8. And a new day is dawning for us all

BB10. I was just a boy, punished for a crime that was not mine

Yes, you are correct, as far as the indentity of the song is concerned. Perhaps Oz got it in 1972, but here in the US, it was out in the summer of '73 --that's when I bought the record. If it had been out in '72 in the US, I never would have heard it, as I was still listening to the 'ma and pa' radio station at that time, and they wouldn't have played it... :-/
