Rock 'n' Roll_fan, I have a question about #4. According to American Top 40's archives (circa late 70's), James Brown held the record for most number 2's without hitting #1, but he was not listed in #4. Was CCR credited with a #2 that Casey (Kasem) didn't know about? ???

Well since I haven't a clue....you get half credit for #4 ;)

Thank you, Sir Fan. But I have no idea either. It's been awhile since I listen to A.T. 40 and they might have updated their archives by now. :-/

I might have been mistaken, then. It might just be James had the most Top 40 hits without hitting #1. ;)

According to billboard CCR has 5 #2s
James Brown has never had a number 2 hit

I deleted my post because the question was refering to albums and not songs so I got kind of confused.

ooh..oooh....#8 is "Walk This Way" by Run-DMC w/ Aerosmith
(although, I have to admit, I didn't know this until I saw it last weekend on a VH-1 special about rap in the 80s)

oops...sorry.  Run-DMC had the first rap ALBUM(not song) to hit #1 (in 1986).  "Walk this Way" was on it.

#8 is Rapture.
(Rapture, U Can't Touch This, and Ice, Ice Baby all hit #1, but the Blondie song hit #1 in the mid 80s. Didn't it? The other two hit #1- in the R&B charts.)
