According to my book here, they did a tour of the US in 1976 - I doubt that they had any hits there - it was more the time that Air Supply and LRB were big there, and this group didn't have that style of music.

Taoist - I knew there had been a cover by Iron Maiden, and I thought about putting that as a hint, but I thought it might give Bobo and unfair advantage (Bobo is wise beyond his years)...

The thing that always got me was - I have heard both versions and feel that Iron Maiden's is inferior (and I could and probably should be accused of some bias there).

My sister gave to me the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles in late 1983.  In there it shows both versions and Skyhooks only making it to # 73 whilst Maiden got to # 35..

Woah !  Jonman !  Bonus !  Alright !

It seems you would have scooped the quiz had you been playing...

So Skyhooks have been heard of in North America (by at least one person it seems.... :'()

You are the Vancouver fan club !

They were great - I would add to your list "Love's Not Good Enough" and "Balwyn Calling"

'...You played around like a cat and a rat, and now you've got the ballroom blues, well you thought that she'd be a one-nighter, but she wants to squeeze you tighter !...'

What great poets !

Were you aware that Shirley Strachan was killed in a helicopter crash here a couple of years ago ?

Very sad.  They were the band I 'grew up with'...

I missed the whole game. Fortunately, I wouldn't have gotten the answer anyway. Congratulations, Fuss!

Well you knew I would agree, but thanks for going to the trouble of having a listen !

I think they just happened at the right time for Australia, but the rest of the world didn't know quite what to make of them....Sadly...

Woah !  Jonman !  Bonus !

Hey FBVP I'm more than happy to be the fan club here in Vancouver!  Yes, I was sadly aware of Shirl's fate  :'( It was a great loss for sure. I first became aware of Skyhooks when I was around 15...a friend got Ego (is not a dirty word) and I was hooked! The outlandish costumes really got me! What a sense of humour!

I've been listening to my "The Latest and Greatest" CD ever since I saw this thread yesterday! I agree with your additions and would add Million Dollar Riff too....classic and true! "There's a thousand guitars all over the land and a thousand drummers and a thousand bands..."

All hail Jonman !

Did you ever get to hear 'Living In The 70's', and in particular the title track, and the appropriately named 'Smut' ?  I'm not prepared to put the lyrics on here for fear of being moderated right off the board !

However a PM would do....

Classics. all !
