Subject: NAME That Tune (Closed)

Written By: Andrew on 08/13/02 at 12:45 a.m.

I thought I would try writing a quiz, since I've been entertained by the many of you who have taken the time to do the same.

Name the song title and artist from the lyrics given. All titles contain a person's name. Some of these I confirmed with the CD, but most are from memory, so please tell me if I've made a mistake.

There is no longer a limit. Enjoy!

1. Elegance in eloquence for sale or rent or hire When Smokey Sings - ABC - Chris
2. There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry - Taoist
3. She doesn't know your name and your heart beats like a subway train Maria - Blondie - Criz
4. She turns me on, don't get me wrong John, I'm Only Dancing - David Bowie - Bobo

20. What about the boy, what about the boy, what about the boy, he saw it all  You Didn't Hear It (From Tommy)...possibly a listing error on my CD - The Who - Taoist

HINTS
15. Although this song was in the top 30 in the UK, it peaked in the 90s in the USA.
17. This 60s tune did not make the charts, but it was performed on the group's TV show.

MORE HINTS
One of these artists categorizes under animals, the other under edibles.

EVEN MORE HINTS
The Monkees song, #17, involves the same name repeated.
#15 is two words and alliterative... the name used in this song is also the one-word title of a song used on this quiz.

LAST HINTS BEFORE AXING OF QUIZ
#15 The artist is a citrus fruit. The first word is commonly associated with the salutation of a friendly letter.
#17 was re-written (or, as I say, slaughtered mercilessly) by rap group Run-DMC

Ron Dante And The Cufflinks? It's more like, Ron Dante IS The Cufflinks. :) That was one of the two I wasn't sure would be gotten without hints, good job.

Haha... just saw the amendment. I mean, The Cufflinks are actually the overdubbed voice of Ron Dante, which was also the case of The Archies and The Detergents. Dante was not credited on any of these records as the artist. This particular song just missed the US top 40, peaking at #41. It did absolutely nothing in the UK, if it was even released there.

I don't believe it was. Thanks for the info, though.

Hints are found at the bottom of the original post. Feel free to use them to your advantage if you wish to make an educated, or blind 8), guess as to the identity of the missing songs.
