Subject: Farming song titles quiz - all harvested!

Written By: maddog167 on 01/15/03 at 07:54 a.m.

Thanks for playing everyone!

I'm a newbie to the board and I've enjoyed reading and having a go at the quizzes. This is my first attempt at setting a quiz so go easy on me if I make the odd mistake!

These lyrics are all taken from songs with titles connected to farming. Limit 2.

1.   Hopin' life gets better
Indy_Gent "Harvest for the World" - Isley Brothers / The Christians / (Power Station)

2.   Have you any idea how the majority feels?
My name is Kenny "Sowing the Seeds of Love" - Tears for Fears

3.   I've got 20 acres and you'm got 43
philbo baggins "The Combine Harvester (Brand New Key)" - The Wurzels

4.   She had become like they are
philbo baggins "Don't Fear the Reaper" - Blue Oyster Cult

5.   Jesus hates him everyday
resinchaser "Me and the Farmer" - The Housemartins

6.   It was back in Louisiana
Crazy Don "Cotton Fields" - Leadbelly et al

7.   Clean up, rest and on my way
JustPassingThrough "The Farmer's Daughter" - Fleetwod Mac / Beach Boys

8.   In his arms she fell as her hair came down
FBVP "Fields of Gold" - Sting

9.   That is you can't you know tune in but it's all right
JustPassingThrough "Strawberry Fields Forever" - The Beatles

10. He asks you with a grin if you're having a good time
resinchaser "Maggie's Farm" - Bob Dylan

Hints were:

1. worldwide 70s hit for a US group of brothers, cover version was an 80s hit for a UK group from Liverpool which also featured 3 brothers

5. 80s hit for a UK four piece group, 2 of whom went on to further success with their subsequent musical projects and are both still having hits to date

7. not a big hit in its own right but featured on a live album by one of the biggest groups in the world of the 60s, 70s and 80s

Correct resinchaser!
Fatboy Slim was known as Norman Cook while a member of the Housemartins.
Paul Heaton was also a member of the Housemartins before going on to form The Beautiful South.
His most recent project as Biscuit Boy doesn't appear to have quite had the same level of success though.

Thanks Bobo, I'd read (on the album credits) that it was written by Brian Wilson but I've never heard the Beach Boys' original version.

Certainly correct on the Isley Brothers Indy. I've never heard the version by the Power Station.
The cover version I had in mind was by the UK group The Christians, featuring the three brothers
Christian from Liverpool (Gary, Russell & Roger) plus keyboard player Henry Priestman.

I once met Gary Christian in a pub in Liverpool and he's about 6' 8"!.
