Subject: Crazy Don's 1963 "A to Z" lyrics quiz! (complete!)

Written By: Crazy Don on 02/06/03 at 09:26 p.m.

QUIZ OVER--1962 QUIZ STILL OPEN--1964 QUIZ COMING SOON!

We are now up to the 1963 "A to Z" lyrics quiz.  That was the year I entered the first grade, West Virginia celebrated its centennial, and Kennedy got shot.  This is probably the last of the difficult quizzes from the 1960's as it was the last year that Americans totally ruled the pop charts.  There are 22 songs here, omitting Q, V, X, and Z.  Limit four for now. NO LIMIT!

And remember, I'm looking for the artist who had the hit with it in 1963, in case the song was a remake or later remade.

BF 1.  That's why I'm in the shape I'm in
Another Saturday Night--Sam Cooke

sl 2.  I'll make you be proud of me
Be My Baby--The Ronettes

sl 3.  She sets my heart a-whirl
Candy Girl--The 4 Seasons

FBVP 4.  Yeah, my heart stood still
Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)--The Crystals

Oops sorry didn't realize. Yup I'm a newbie - didn't know inthe00s.com even existed til this afternoon! I'll try to behave & adhere to the limits on quizzes. I know 3 & 21 are by the 4 Seasons (even tho I grew up in the 70's & 80's my parents made sure I knew virtually everything there was to know about 60's music lol).

I am giving hints to the remaining three and reminding everyone that there are limits to these quizzes for a purpose!

And remember, I'm looking for the artist who had the hit with it in 1963, in case the song was a remake or later remade.

1.  That's why I'm in the shape I'm in
Probably the last big hit this singer had in his lifetime; he was shot to death in December 1964; song was remade by Cat Stevens in 1974

sl 2.  I'll make you be proud of me
Be My Baby--The Ronettes

sl 3.  She sets my heart a-whirl
Candy Girl--The 4 Seasons

FBVP 4.  Yeah, my heart stood still
Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)--The Crystals

BF 8.  The one with the wavy hair
He's So Fine--The Chiffons

sl 9.  I've got no reason to smile
It's My Party--Lesley Gore

10.  I found out how good it feels
Title is "only a single glance"; later recorded by the Hollies and by Linda Ronstadt, the artist who did the original later recorded for Apple Records; is probably not a distant relative of the most beautiful woman of all time, whose face could launch a thousand ships

11.  Touched my heart and then I couldn't resist him
The group who did this is actually the songwriting team of Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich; title is a synonym for "Type of young male you are able to remember"; group's name is a synonym for pieces of precipitation that fall from the sky when the temperature is above freezing

Zenobia 12.  Three nights and days I sail the sea
Louie Louie--The Kingsmen

MNIK 13.  He's gonna save my reputation
My Boyfriend's Back--The Angels

sl 14.  Though you keep telling me that you're lonely
The Night Has a Thousand Eyes--Bobby Vee

sl 15.  The glitter rubs right off and you're nowhere

#1 is correct; the title of #10 is correct (artist hint:  The person whose face launched a thousand ships is Helen of Troy), but you are way off on #11 (hint:  The title begins with the word "The" and the next word begins with "K", and icecicles do not fall from the sky when the temperature is above freezing!  Another hint:  The group's name is also the title of a 1961 song by Dee Clark)
