On #13 that is the correct song, but it isn't the artist I was looking for, so I will give you 1/2 credit (I've never even heard of Maxine Brown...)

Maxine was the first person to chart with the song in 1965 - but if that's not what you're looking for, how about...
a) Manfred Mann (also 1965)
b) Rod Stewart (1973)
c) Cher (1992)
