Subject: Land of a dozen dances(Lights out, Answers)

Written By: Sioux_Denim on 07/16/03 at 07:45 p.m.

I've been participating in everyone else's quizzes, and now, for the first time, I'm going to take a stab at one of my own.  The theme is "dances", and while Billy Florio beat me to the idea and some of the best picks, there are a few (12 to be exact) he left for me. They're in alphabetical order, but one letter can have more than one answer.   All limits removed.

It's been nearly two weeks and nobody's even made a guess at the last 5. I'm turning out the lights, and giving the answers. Maybe I'm just showing my age.  b]

1) You're a real crazy flyer...
Answer: "Do the Bird" by Dee Dee Sharp (me)
2) Try your luck... ]"Disco Duck" by Rick Dees (Billy Florio)
(I would have also accepted "The Duck" by Jackie Lee"Do the Freddie" by Freddie and the Dreamers (Joelle)

4) A doctor, a lawyer, and an Indian chief
"Willie and the Hand Jive" by Johnny Otis (Paul UK)

5) My next stop just might be L.A.
"THe Hitchhike" by Marvin Gaye (Gambo)

6) The moon was right, the stars were bright...
Clue: First line refers to a trip to a large city in Florida; Second clue: Second line mentions a girl named Sammy (Come on, how many Florida cities rhyme with Sammy?) Answer: "Hully Gully baby" by the Dovells (me).  "I went down to Miami/I met a girl named Sammy..."

7) Everybody's got the beat...
Clue: If someone called you the name of this dance, you would take it as an insult Answer: "Doing the Jerk" by the Larks (me once again)
8) Put on your dancin' pants
Clue: Think martial arts (and the answer is not "Kung Fu Fighting");Second clue: The group had an imperious name Answer: "The Karate" by the Emperors (me again. OK, that might have been a little obscure, but not that much. color]
9) People gather 'round whenever they're ready...
]"Monkey Time" by Major Lance (Billy Florio)"Monster Mash" by Bobby Boris Pickett (Mike/Billy Florio)

11) Standing there and it's getting cold...
Clue: First half of the title is a cartoon character; second half is almost identical to #5 Answer: "Popeye the Hitchhiker" by Chubby Checker (guess who).  Nobody remembers "Clap your hands and thumb your thumbs/That's how the Popeye dance is done" ? b]
12) You're always dancing far apart...
"Wah-Watusi" by the Orlons (Indy Gent)

1) You're a real crazy flyer...

2) Try your luck...

3) It's an easy dance, give yourself a chance...

4) A doctor, a lawyer, and an Indian chief

5) My next stop just might be L.A.

10) Seems he was troubled by just one thing...

11) Standing there and it's getting cold...

12) You're always dancing far apart...

My first attempt, hope this works.  Good luck to all. Warning: 5) and 11) are almost, but not quite, the same.

You'll have to share credit for #10 - Mile beat you to the song, but you got the performer right. The other 2 are correct.
