Subject: FD's favourite 1990's tunes lyrics quizzes (vol.1 - 1990) DONE! Winner: holicman

Written By: FaultyDog on 10/18/05 at 4:44 am

Here's a first in a series I'm hoping to do. I know most of you are more into the 1980's, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway (with all those new members lately...).

So this one is all about 1990 songs. Note: all songs were CHARTED in 1990, they don't all ORIGINATE from 1990.

Limit = 4 for now.

Have fun everyone! :)

Hi Karen! Glad to see you around. :)

You're right on #4, not so on #18 I'm afraid. (Never ever was a hit for All Saints in 1997, so if you stick around long enough... ::))

And keep working on #10, I'm sure you'll get it in due time. ;)

I'd interpreted it as songs from the 1990's not just 1990

I've tried to make the introduction as clear as possible, but there's always the risk of being misinterpreted I guess... :-\\
Anyway, that's why I'm planning to do a series of quizzes: one for each year.

It's not the exact title, but I'll give it to you anyway. :)

Nah.  I just misread it.  I should pay more attention in class.

Why is it called that when she doesn't sing that in the song?  Silly song title

I have no idea. Probably to avoid confusion with other songs...though there don't seem to be any with that title (Been Around The World by Mase cs was, of course, based on All Around The World, so that don't count).
A similar thing happened with the 4 Non Blondes song "What's up" - the title doesn't appear in the lyrics either, and they could have easily called it "What's going on". I know that they didn't though, to distinguish their song from the outstanding "What's going on" by Marvin Gaye.

Well done everyone! I'm impressed... :)

Paint it black was rereleased in 1990 due to the success of the TV series Tour Of Duty in The Netherlands, and reached #1 spot again (as it had done before in 1966).

Arrrhh...I hate it when I miss a good quiz. Song #10 is one of my favourites 8)...too bad I was beaten to it. :-[

I'll see if I can figure some remaining ones.

#11 I know is from "Born To Be Wild" but the song by Steppenwolf is from the late 60's. Maybe someone did a cover of it? ???

100% correct! :)

6. is "Show Me Heaven" and I believe the 1990 version was by Tina Arena.

Well, you've got the title right, but the artist I'm looking for is not Tina Arena. This particular singer also sang "Sweetest child" (1992).

Sorry you got beaten to that one too, Jeff... :-\\

Both #11 and #18 were rereleased due to their use in a tv commercial (jeans advert, if I remember correctly). Born to be wild was even charted three times: in 1968 (#32), 1973 (#16) and 1990 (#4).

Maybe it did where you live, but in the U.S. it charted only in 1968, at #2.

Nick Kamen it is. For some mysterious reason, this particular song only seems to have scored in The Netherlands (reaching #6)...But it has been released elsewhere. Maybe someone else knows the title. ???
