Subject: 1980s Album Quiz (Vol.II) (last answers revealed)

Written By: FaultyDog on 02/12/06 at 11:00 am

The first one is done, so now it's time for my second Album Quiz.
I've listed another 41 album titles from the 1980s, divided into three categories. All you have to do is give me the artist/band.

Again, limit = 3 to start with.

Limit is OFF

Good luck everyone! :)

HINTS I: TRACKS FROM THE REMAINING ALBUMS

29: Micro-macro / Skin and skin / Moonlight-lion and sheep / Hands and clouds
35: Interference / Man in someone else's skin / Money and power / Menagerie makers
38: Cowboy man / Farther down the line / This old porch / If I were the man you wanted

In addition to this: #29 is an instrumental album and I don't think anyone on this board has (heard of) it.

HINTS II: INFO ON THE ARTIST(S)

29: Male harpist. No hit singles, and probably unknown to all of you.
35: UK singer, lead singer with Fischer Z.
38: He has won 4 Grammy Awards (not for this particular album, however). Also known as an actor (The Player, Short Cuts, Ready To Wear, Cookie's Fortune, Bastard Out Of Carolina, The Opposite Of Sex). Wrote the music for the 2000 movie "Dr. T & The Women".

HINTS III: MORE INFO ON THE ALBUMS & ARTISTS
29: I've given up on this one. The artists name is Andreas Vollenweider.
35: The songs "Mayday Mayday" and "I Smelt Roses (In The Underground)", both released as a single, are also from this album.
38: Perhaps you're more familiar with his songs "She's No Lady" or "Simple Song".

Hi Henk,I'll have a stab at a couple.

# 36...Sheena Easton?

#41....King Crimson (one of my favorites)

#30 is by the Style Council and includes what I still think was their best song with "How She Threw it All Away"

#32 is by The Korgis.  This is one album I've been looking to add to my collection for years, but also one that is very hard to find.  Speaking of the Korgis, I loved the dance version of "Everybodys Gotta Learn Sometime" by Marc et Claude, which was called "I Need Your Lovin (Like the Sunshine)"

#33 is by Eddy Grant.  I actually just bought the cassette tape of this last week.  I love that song "Gimme Hope Jo'anna" O0

I think that album has not long been re-released on CD, Jason...so you should still be able to get hold of it...

Hi to you, Henk...

#8. Level 42 (fine piece of work)
#17. Thompson Twins
#40. Loose Ends (the version of Bowie's 'Golden years' which was on this LP, is best forgotten!)

Of course these three are spot-on, Paul, and frankly -

#40. Loose Ends (the version of Bowie's 'Golden years' which was on this LP, is best forgotten!)

... I think the entire album is best forgotten. But that's just me.

I've raised the limit to 5.

12. "Aural Sculpture" is by The Stranglers

22.  Assuming there were no other artists with an album by this title, "Sensual Sensation" is an album by the Canadian Hi-NRG duo Lime.  If this is correct, then tell me, did Lime have any hit singles in your charts?

You assume correctly, Jason. And FYI:

Your Love (Jul 1981) PP: 11, WC: 9
Babe We're Gonna Love Tonite (Oct 1982) PP: 20, WC: 6
Unexpected Lovers (Jun 1985) bubbling under

and although it was less successful, I prefer "Babe We're Gonna Love Tonite" over "Your Love".

It is good to know that Lime had chart success overseas.  All of those songs are indeed fabulous :)

Here's some trivia for ya ... Lime was the creative force of husband and wife Denis and Denyse LePage who also wrote, produced and programmed Voggue's "Dancin' the Night Away"

Mink DeVille is the right answer! :)

Apart from this album (1981), they released at least two other albums in the 1980s: "Where Angels Fear To Tread" (1983) and "Sportin' Life" (1985).
"Spanish stroll" was a #3 hit in 1977 in Dutch Top 40, but they also scored two hits in 1984: "Each Word's A Beat Of My Heart" (#32) and "Demasiado Corazon (Too Much Heart)" (#10). The latter one was used in a tv ad.
