Subject: DUTCH TREAT - Celebrating one year on the board (TIME'S UP!! Answers revealed)

Written By: FaultyDog on 05/06/06 at 1:40 am

Just about a year ago I stumbled across this wonderful site. It didn't take me long before I realized I wanted to join you(which I did on May 10th, 2005)

So I feel like celebrating, and what better way of celebrating than to give you a real

DUTCH TREAT!

All artists in this quiz are Dutch (or in some cases the artists are at least 50% Dutch), and nearly all songs have made it to Top 40 in UK and/or US, so this time it should really be a piece of cake. ::)

HINTS HINTS HINTS!!
10. Somebody (Sister Morphine?) admitted being a fan of this band with lead singer Dinand Woesthoff.
15. From their debut album "Mental Floss For The Globe". If you listen carefully you can hear the band's initials in the clipping.
# Surprise, surprise and so you rub your eyes - Never knew U.D.S. as cold as ice...#
17. Not sure if they ever hit Top 40 in US (I know they didn't in UK), but I know this band (fronted by Monique and Suzanne Klemann) has been mentioned several times.
19. Dutch pop/rock icon in extremis and US Top 40 One Hit Wonder. Also a successful painter. He jumped off the Amsterdam Hilton on July 11, 2001.
22. This is the "first" or "earliest" "feathered creature with two legs and two wings" Dance.
24. His real name is Jos Rozenboom, but I don't think that's of much help.
37. His real name is Clarence Milton Bekker.
42. Is It Love? Or Are You Dreaming? I don't care, I'm a Slave To The Music.
43. Houston sees a lot of them. It involves a rocket, a platform and a countdown.
47. The world's #1 dj of 2002, 2003 and 2004 (Tijs Verwest) in a deadly spin.
49. Marco V & Benjamin Kuyten are hit by warm and kind feelings.

This is an awesome quiz Henk 8)

I will eliminate some of the more tougher ones ...

06 | Rock Your Body Rock - Ferry Corsten
12 | Holiday Rap - MC Miker G and Deejay Sven
36 | Doop - Doop
41 | Do You Know (I Go Crazy) - Angel City featuring Lara McAllen *

* a vocal version of Children by Robert Miles.  As well, Lara McAllen is extremely gorgeous http://209.85.12.227/html/emoticons/wub.gif

The avatar I have (which I made late last year) is a scene from the "Do You Know (I Go Crazy)" video

Thank you Amanda! :)

I don't really mind you left out the St. Thomas More School Choir on #4, but you haven't mentioned the Dutch artist on #7 (yet)... so I can only give you partial credit for that one.

The only one that's 100% correct is #8. As for the others: there's a Dutch artist missing in #5, Jonathan King is not the original artist for #13 (not to mention he's not Dutch), and #16 is Focus, but with another song. So in all, you got 2.5 points.

#8 Father Abraham.

#13. must be George Baker Selection

#16 must be Sylvia.

30: Chocolate Puma - I Wanna Be You
34: Vengaboys - We Like To Party (The Vengabus)

Two correct answers, Zella! :)

I guess I could've gone for a more obscure song, but... I want this quiz to be finished. ;) Still not sure if that's going to happen, though.

Hi Henk...and happy anniversary!

Fine stuff...

#8. 'I See A Star' - Mouth & McNeal
(Your Eurovision entry from 1974, which did well, but not as well as...)

#18. 'Ding-A-Dong' - Teach-In
(...from the following year and the eventual winner!)

#27. 'I Remember Elvis Presley' - Danny Mirror (who actually pulled off a very good impersonation of that Elvis fella!)

#35. 'The Caribbean Disco Show' - Lobo (not the 'Dog Named Boo' guy, but a Harry Belafonte impersonator!)

Ahem! Another 'secret' divulged!

Of course, the song I know, but I'll have to do a bit of research into who the artist is...

In the meantime, have another favourite of mine...

#14. 'Say Yeah' - The Limit (Ah! Many happy memories of that one!)

Hi there Henk, congrats on the one year milestone :).

#7 I think the Dutch lady sax player was Candy Dulfer?

#22 is "The Birdie Song", this was a UK hit for The Tweets but I suspect the same song may have been a hit for a different group in the Netherlands?

#40 is "Mississippi" by Pussycat, a No.1 hit here in the UK in the 1970s but the band were never heard of again, at least not over here.

#43 is really familiar but I can't place it, I'm sure I will kick myself for this one...

The other Dutch artist that I remember from the 80s is the girl vocal band Mai Tai but I didn't spot them on the quiz, unless I missed them!?

Hi there Henk, congrats on the one year milestone :).

Thank you Graham! :)

#7 I think the Dutch lady sax player was Candy Dulfer?

You're right in thinking so.

#22 is "The Birdie Song", this was a UK hit for The Tweets but I suspect the same song may have been a hit for a different group in the Netherlands?

You're on the right track, but to distinguish this tune from all the others it has a different title. And there should be a different artist too, of course, so I can't give you any credit for this one.

#40 is "Mississippi" by Pussycat, a No.1 hit here in the UK in the 1970s but the band were never heard of again, at least not over here.

"Mississippi" was the first ever Dutch #1 in UK Top 40. Pussycat went on to score a string of hits in the Netherlands, including seven more Top 10-hits, before splitting up in the mid-1980s.

#43 is really familiar but I can't place it, I'm sure I will kick myself for this one...

What can I say...? It involves a platform and a countdown. ;)

Shame on you! You oughta know #23...if I remember correctly you once stated you "loved the whole album".
And I think you should've recognized #27,  #9 and #1 as well... ::)

Apart from that, you've 6.5 correct answers. The Alice Deejay song is not "Will I Ever".

I'd better take a second listen ...

As for that Alice Deejay song, it must be Back in My Life.  I always get their songs confused.  They do sound alike in some ways.  lol

Oh, and here's some chart facts for some of the ones that have been answered ...

Burning Heart - Vandenberg
Lily Was Here - David A. Stewart / Candy Dulfer

:)

23 | Mad'House.  Sounds like 'Like A Prayer', but I am not quite sure.  I can't find my copy of the CD to listen  :(

1 | 4 Strings, I believe.  I always get their songs mixed up, so I am going to guess 'Diving'?

27 and 9 sound so very familiar.  I know them, but I Can't think ARGHHHH  Is 27 a 2 Unlimited song?

Hi once more, Henk...

Just sifting through what I can get!

#22. I'm sure we've got the title by now...this version was by The Electronica's, which was beaten by (as Graham says) UK session-men known as the Tweets

#29. 'You' - Ten Sharp (one of the few 90s songs here that I know!)

#31. There's Mai Tai...! With 'Body And Soul', the more obscure of their two British top-tenners...

#39. 'Jack To The Sound Of the Underground' - Peter Slaghuis was the man...Hithouse (the literal translation) was the name he went under on this...
