I've collected 70 instrumental tracks from the 1950s to the 2000s and put them all in this quiz.
Strictly speaking, not all tracks are 100% instrumental... There are some lyrics here and there, but it's limited to a few spoken words, a single phrase or "ooooh" / "aaaah" / "la la la".

Some of these tracks have been performed by various artists, in which case I've picked the most successful or best known performer. You may find one or two exceptions to this rule, however...

There's no way of knowing what you know...but I don't think you'll get them all. Or will you...? ::)

Have fun!
:)

Not bad for a first run. Numbers 59 and 68 are 100% correct, #51 and 58 are correct on the titles (other artists turned these tunes into hits). #34 is incorrect, I'm afraid, which gives you a total of 3 points for now. :)

btw: the "E" stands for Ennio. ;)

These are all correct, although you're one artist short on #34. However, by answering these 4.75 you have exceeded the limit by 0.25 (as you had already given half an answer to #51), so I can only give you 5 points in total.

As for the other two: "Albatross" is the correct title (half a point) but "Oxygen" is only part of the title, so I can't give you full points on that. Jean Michel Jarre made several tracks called "Oxygen", and to distinguish one from another they were numbered. So...which one is this? ???

Quite stirring stuff too...very nearly hit #1 here during Christmas 1977 (it clung to #2 for six weeks, but couldn't get past Wings 'Mull Of Kintyre'...shame!)

It must be the only folk song from Cornwall to have charted anywhere!

#44 There is something at the back of my mind saying Status Quo on this one ???

#17. 'Doina De Jale (Light Of Experience)' - Georghe Zamfir
#27. 'Il Silenzio' - Nini Rosso
#36. 'Et Les Oiseaux Chantaient (And The Birds Were Singing)' - Sweet People

21 is so familiar, but I cannot place it  :-\\

48 | Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr

#21 is a tune by Danish producer Martin Sig, if that's any help. :-\\

#48 is indeed by these two U2 guys. :)

Would it be "Theme from " 2001: A Space Odyssey ? :P   Still not sure of the artist other than the one I have listed on this cd..

Now that would be nitpicking, wouldn't it? ;) I'm looking for the name of a Brazilian producer, who worked with various artists (like Kool & the Gang) in the 70s and 80s. And the title is a true "classic"... ::)

Hi Henk

There's only one other instrumental I'm sure about, that's the pan pipes of

#30 Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto - Manuel and his Music of the Mountains

I've a few other half-guesses and long shots....

#2  The song sounds like Bobby Goldsboro's "Summer (The First Time)" but I don't know which artist did an instrumental version
#37 This is a real shot in the dark...the piano sound on this sounds like Lieutenant Pigeon but I don't know the song at all

Unfortunately, all answers are incorrect. :( Besides, #44 was already answered by Gaylon. :-\\

#17 (Light Of Experience) Doina De Jale ~ Georghe Zamfir

That's one of the two - but Paul beat you to it. :(

#29 Thus Spake Zarathustra ~ Philharmonia Orchestra, Conductor Lorin Maazel

I can give you 0.25 points for getting the title (although it's actually spelled in German).  :) Still looking for the artist, though....

Those guys wore awful glasses, but I don't think they really cared. ;) Another 0.50 points for you.

Correct on the title, but I've used a different version (by a German band whose name is somehow closely connected to...oranges).

A lot of these tunes have been used by (pirate) radio stations in the 1960s and 1970s (it's one of the reasons I picked them), but I'm still not sure what you mean. Which track are you talking about?

Looks like no-one knows the remaining ones, so I'm revealing the answers...

02. From the movie "Un linceuil n'a pas des poches" (A Shroud Has No Pockets). This was a hit in most European countries, South America and Japan, but not in UK and US. It peaked at #3 in Dutch Top 40.
Dolannes Melody - Paul de Senneville & Olivier Toussaint feat. Jean-Claude Borelly

05. Artist (co)wrote songs like "Delilah" and "It's Not Unusual" (for Tom Jones) and "There's A Kind Of Hush" (for Herman's Hermits). This tune was composed specifically for Radio Nordsee International. Didn't chart in UK or US, but hit #7 in The Netherlands.
Man Of Action - Les Reed Orchestra

14. The only hint I can give you is that this is the only version of the tune without words. The artist has no chart history in UK or US.
Casatschok - Dimitri Dourakine & his Orchestra

18. Artist shares his first name with Mr Bundy. Last name somewhat sounds like crayons.
        - Al Caiola

21. A tribute to a racing legend, who retired earlier this season. Think Ferrari.
Formula 1 (The Schumacher Song) - DJ Visage

26. The artist also recorded "Barbarella" for the 1968 film of the same name, and co-wrote "Sherry" (Four Seasons), "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" (Frankie Valli) and "Lady Marmalade" (Patti LaBelle).
        - The Bob Crewe Generation

29. The artist is a Brazilian producer who also recorded "Happy Hour" and "SOS Fire In The Sky".

30. This tune was also used for the soundtrack of "Kill Bill" (vol.1). One artist is already in this quiz, the other is a German band leader who had a #28 hit in US with "The Seduction (Love Theme)".
Lonely Shepherd (Einsamer Hirte) - Georghe Zamfir & James Last

31. Actually a Neil Diamond song, performed by an artist whose Orchestra is already in this quiz.
Crunchy Granola Suite - Percy Faith (my personal favourite of this quiz...)

37. His real name is Jimmy Wisner. There's a 1980s Beach Boys song with a title like the artists name. Song title refers to the classic tune that's been used and contains the name of a continent.
        Asia Minor - Kokomo

46. The original version of the Simon & Garfunkel classic. These musicians (named after ancient inhabitants of parts of Southern America) actually backed the duo in their rendition.
        - Los Incas

        Cade's County - Henry Mancini

Little Black Samba - Norman Petty Trio

58. "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly" was a UK and US #1 for which American band leader?
        Hugo Montenegro

60. This tune by Orbital is about a container, usually with a lid, used for holding solids.
