Subject: A 'Last Lines' Lyrics Quiz (THE END!)

Written By: CeramicsFanatic on 07/20/07 at 5:50 pm

Hello all!  :)

Here's another quiz that Paul and I have put together, and all the lines were taken from songs of the 70's and 80's.  It's up to you to identify the songs and the artists.

Limit: 3

(As always, NO CHEATING, please!!)

1. "...I heard she threw the letter away"
(There were two groups in two different countries who did this song around the same time. I'll accept either.)
Mushroom / WD (Billy, Don't Be A Hero - Paper Lace OR Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods)

2. "...if I could, I would, I swear'
AnnieBanannie / ladybug (A Different Corner - George Michael)

3. "...you'd better let somebody love you before it's too late"
gemini (Desperado - The Eagles)

4. "...now she's a big success, I want to meet her again"
maddog (The Model - Kraftwerk)

5. "...just to touch you once again"
gemini (Everything I Own - Bread)

6. "...and you just have to say goodbye"
Mushroom (Anything For You - Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine)

7. "...oh, how I love you"
holicman (Nights In White Satin - Moody Blues)

8. "...beautiful like a rainbow"
ladybug (True Colors - Cyndi Lauper)

9. "...come on baby and I'll show you a good time"
ladybug (The Joker - Steve Miller Band)

10. "...how do I escape from you"
maddog (I Could Be Happy - Altered Images)

11. "...oh, I miss him so much"
gemini (Daniel - Elton John)

12. "...ridicule is nothing to be scared of"
Henk (Prince Charming - Adam & The Ants)

13. "...owe it to the wind my love"
loki (We're All Alone - Rita Coolidge)

14. "...or it will prove that I was wrong"
Henk (Kayleigh - Marillion)

15. "...nothing really matters to me"
mooster (Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen)

16. "...I wasn't really sure what was going on"
Henk (19 - Paul Hardcastle)

17. "...let me slip away, slip away on you"
Mushroom (Carefree Highway - Gordon Lightfoot)

18. "...and I couldn't live without you tonight"
WD (Something About You - Level 42)

19. "...you know we'll have a good time then"
mooster (Cat's In The Cradle - Harry Chapin)

20. "...Oh no!  Look at all that washing up!  Heav-ee!"
maddog (Hole In My Shoe - Neil)

Well, Bo's version was more well known, but it was Paper Lace that wrote and recorded it first.  This song is much like "One Tin Soldier" and "I Love Rock And Roll", where the cover is much more famous then the original version was.

Ironically, the Paper Lace version hit #1 in the UK, but only #96 in the US.  Even though Bo Donaldson is the group most people recognize with the song, my mom constantly played the Paper Lace album.  It had both that song and The Night Chicago Died on it.  So for that reason, I always associate it with Paper Lace.

And I actually found a video of Paper Lace singing it.

I hate to be picky... but "Nights in White Satin" dates from the 1960s. It peaked at #2 in our charts in 1968.

Well #20 is definitely the actor Nigel Planer in his character as Neil from "The Young Ones", I can hear him saying this line in my head, so my only other guess would be that it's

"Hole In My Shoe" - by Neil ???

Allow me to adjudicate on this one...

'A Different Corner' was indeed featured on a Wham! LP (in Britain, it was included on their last album called 'The Final' in Britain - and also on that LP you mentioned), but to all intents and purposes it was a George Michael solo effort...

(In fact, it was such a solo effort that he performed, wrote, played all the instrumentation and produced the thing!)

On this occasion, as you have mentioned George (and let's face it, Wham! was George!), I'm inclined to let you have it... :)

MTA - apologies! I see someone already has answered it!  :-[

AR did contributed something towards Wham!, the home recording were done at his house when his mother was out.

It's generally accepted that their 'image' was concocted by Ridgeley, but by the time of 'ADC' he was just making up the numbers...

Maybe he was George's muse for the song, LOL.

Anyways...you and Karen do what y'all think is right in terms of the quiz.  It's not like it's the game point or anything...LOL

As it says in your avatar, you're fair and balanced!

I know people have a lot of confusion with 'Careless Whisper'...perhaps I should add this one to the list!

Also Paul, Karen - just as a point of interest, isn't there a sort of whispered bit at the end of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that says "Any way the wind blows...."?
So isn't that really the last line of the song?

I don't want to come across as all pedantic, just engaging in some light hearted chit-chat, is all  :).
