Subject: Minor Hits - The Dutch Edition [Last answer revealed]

It's been too long, don't you agree? :D Time for a new quiz!

This one contains 56 minor hits, all from the 1970s.
None of these songs made Dutch Top 40; they all got stuck in bubbling under section. :o
I can't give you an exact peak position, but it's somewhere between 41 and 70.

Most of these songs were big hits in UK and/or US,
so you'll have no trouble recognizing them.  ;)

Limit = 8, and please...no cheating.

Good luck and enjoy!
:)

Hints!

47. Bringing the gospel from LA. Originally a sextet, formed in the mid-1950s. One of their songs (not this one) is self-titled (4 words).
This song is about powerful altitude (US #69, UK --). It was very popular in discos.

Mighty High - Mighty Clouds of Joy

Excellent quiz Henk! :)

01 | Heartbeat (It's A Love Beat) - The DeFranco Family
23 | Lovin' You Ain't Easy - Michel Pagliaro (though he just went by Pagliaro on this one)
26 | I'd Really Love to See You Tonight - England Dan and John Ford Coley
36 | Love Will Keep Us Together - Captain and Tenille (sp?)

I almost didn't know the DeFranco Family and Pagliaro ones; I had to think about it for a few seconds.  I'm slipping.  I can usually get the Canadian ones instantly :-[

Yes...it was the flip of their maudlin 'Halfway Down The Stairs' effort...

I think it was also included on 'The Muppet Show' LP, which (to our eternal shame!) reached #1 back in that strange year of '77...

The Hillside Singers is right. I may have downloaded a faulty mp3...It was ascribed to the Hillside Singers. :-\\ To be honest: I'm not familair with either version of the song, so I couldn't tell the difference. I had to go by what it said. Apparently that was incorrect. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Well, you didn't ask for it, but you get it anyway...

Hints!

05. One Hit Wonders from 1974 (US #8, UK #33). It's a group of musicians, with Joey Levine as the lead singer.
Song was covered by Tracey Ullman (to be found on her album "You Broke My Heart In Seventeen Places").

21. Not a chart hit for this four man band from Baltimore, better known for their 1980s songs.
Band members (excluding lead singer): Ronnie Dunbar, Steve Wright, Larry Lynch. Song title is the same as a recent Madonna hit.

30. Canadian band with a song that has a very long title...(US #62, UK --). Also recorded by the Carpenters.

35. The original version of a Barry Manilow classic ("Mandy"). It's called "Brandy" (US #91, UK #12), but who's the singer?

43. Praise the Lord! American rock band (Lenny Goldsmith, Bob Morris, Dave Johnson, Barry Frost) who took this song to #33 in US.
If you remember "Welcome Back Kotter" you might have an idea of the band name.

47. Bringing the gospel from LA. Originally a sextet, formed in the mid-1950s. One of their songs (not this one) is self-titled (4 words).
This song is about powerful altitude (US #69, UK --). It was very popular in discos.

49. Canadian singer/songwriter, who's been living inside himself. This song hit #22 in US, but failed to chart in UK.

53. No, it's not Donna Summer...It's not even a woman, and yet it's pretty close. He's a son of his father.
This particular tune was part of a soundtrack ("Midnight Express") and hit #33 in US.

05. One Hit Wonders from 1974 (US #8, UK #33). It's a group of musicians, with Joey Levine as the lead singer.
Song was covered by Tracey Ullman (to be found on her album "You Broke My Heart In Seventeen Places").

30. Canadian band with a song that has a very long title...(US #62, UK --). Also recorded by the Carpenters.

35. The original version of a Barry Manilow classic ("Mandy"). It's called "Brandy" (US #91, UK #12), but who's the singer?

#5. 'Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me)' - Reunion

#30. 'Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft' - Klaatu (who everybody thought was the re-formed Beatles back in the day!)

#35. The artist is Scott English

Hi, Henk...

Would #53 be 'The Chase' by Giorgio Moroder... :)

That's what it is, Karen. 8)

You've missed a part on the title for #30...(j/k).  Other than that, another perfect score. :)

21. Not a chart hit for this four man band from Baltimore, better known for their 1980s songs.
Band members (excluding lead singer): Ronnie Dunbar, Steve Wright, Larry Lynch. Song title is the same as a recent Madonna hit.
Don't know, but I'll try "Get Together"

43. Praise the Lord! American rock band (Lenny Goldsmith, Bob Morris, Dave Johnson, Barry Frost) who took this song to #33 in US.
If you remember "Welcome Back Kotter" you might have an idea of the band name.
Hallelujah - Sweathog

49. Canadian singer/songwriter, who's been living inside himself. This song hit #22 in US, but failed to chart in UK.
Gino Vannelli, but don't know the song

You've got the right era, but the wrong song title. Here's another hint: it's a one word song title.
The band is best known for their 1983 hit about love in Danger.

Totally! :)

I should have known #30.  I recognized it, but I was drawing a super blank :-[
Believe it or not, 'Calling Occupants' by Klaatu was also a minor hit in Canada as well.  And believe it or not, of all the hits they had (which were popular), their only Top 40 hit here was 'California Jam' in 1975 :o

And now I know why #49 sounded so familiar.  It's 'People Gotta Move' by Gino Vannelli.  I don't listen to these songs enough to remember them, but I do know them.  I hear them, but I can't quite place them.  I gotta get more knowledgable on my fellow Canadians

and a guess on the #21 artist?  Is it the Greg Kihn Band?  I recognize those names from the linear notes of his albums, a few which I own.  As for the song .. a random guess would be 'Get Together' ?

21. I'll go with "Jump"... figure it's a 50/50 shot now!

Hey, I don't always recognize the Dutch artists you use in your quizzes. ;) But you got this one. :)

Greg Kihn Band, yes...but not "Get Together".

Apologies accepted. :D

Seems like nobody  knows the answer to #47, so here it is:

47. Bringing the gospel from LA. Originally a sextet, formed in the mid-1950s. One of their songs (not this one) is self-titled (4 words).
This song is about powerful altitude (US #69, UK --). It was very popular in discos.

Should've been the Mighty Clouds of Joy with Mighty High.

I do not think think I would know that song.

Another great quiz, well done.

I've heard of that one before, but I would have never gotten it

Like Philip says, this was a well done quiz! :)
