#1. My Girl ~ Madness ?

Welcome Mr. Philip...don't question it, for that's what it is!  :)

Hi Paul and Karen - thanks for dropping this quiz as an oasis in the Quiz board desert!  :)

Many thanks Graham...how 'bout giving us one of your quizzes pretty soon?  ;)

#8  The Most Beautiful Girl In The World - Charlie Rich
#13 Young Girl - Gary Puckett and the Union Gap
#19 My Best Friend's Girl - The Cars
#22 China Girl - David Bowie (originally by Iggy Pop I think)

Solid four Graham, although I could be really hair-splitting and say that the original artist credit for #13 was 'The Union Gap featuring Gary Puckett', but even I'm not that bad!

I hope!

The Cars' record was one of the first to be promoted in Britain as a picture disc!

27 Material Girl by Madonna
4 Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield

I know 19 and 22, but Graham beat me to them :\'(

Well, the two you did nab are perfectly correct Jeff...keep looking, I'm sure there's one or two others you know!  ;)

Yes, yes and yes for those...

6. Hot girls in love - Loverboy?

But sadly, not this one... :(

I'm almost ashamed to know this but...

15. Modern Girl - Sheena Easton?

No shame in that, 'specially when it's right!

This was actually Sheena's first record, not '9 To 5' although that did chart first!

18. Goodbye Girl - David Gates

21. Girl I'm Gonna Miss You?? - Milli Vanilli (not certain of title but these words seem to fit)

Right with both, but Patty just beat you to #21...

...and a big well done to the missus for getting #25!  :)

Should've become politicians both of 'em!

And re: Astrud Gilberto - the orginal release credited Stan Getz (saxophone) and Astrud's husband Joao, but not poor Astrud, who did most of the work!

I read your clues to #29 so Leslie Gore can't be the artist your looking for because she was hardly
a one hit wonder, she did record Bobby's Girl however.

Very good stab, Kevin, but Lesley's not who I'm looking for...

I'll give the answer as both girls are hardly well-known...unlike the song!

In the US, the version by Marcie Blane took the honours, while in Blighty, a young lady by the name of Susan Maughan did the same...

(In one of those very rare occurrences, the British 'cover' was miles better than the American original!)

Tracey Ullman also does a version on her 1983 'You Broke My Heart in 13 Places' album.  Not a good version, and thankfully never became a single for her ;D
