Written By: nondiva234 on 10/16/08 at 11:52 pm

Nice quiz! :)

You didn't put a limit on this one, but it doesn't really matter to me  'cause I know only one:

2. 5 - 5, 6 (Clue: His father was on the TV show based on the hit Douglas Copeland novel)

Must be "Magic" - Robin Thicke.

You are most definitely right! And since Robin's dad hails from Ontario, that would make Robin half-Canadian!  :)

The 'numbers' don't quite match on this one, but I'm gonna hazard a guess anyway (as I don't know many female Norwegian singers!)

#3. 'I Know There's Something Going On' - Frida

I was thinking that too, but since the numbers of letters in the words didn't actually correspond, I knew it couldn't be right. Maybe there's another female Norwegian-born singer who some of us don't know a great deal about??

12. 8, 3, 4 - 1.1. (Clue: His latest #1 hit samples a song from O-Zone)

This is just a guess...but could it be "Whatever You Like" by T.I.? ??? :-\\ (FYI: for us in Holland, this IS his latest)

These are hard.  More clues needed (for me at least)

These are quite hard yes.  I require more clues to be able to make good guesses

Which in turn fully qualifies him for Canadian Content 8)

You're right! And his latest song is called "Live Your Life" f. Rihanna, which samples "Dragostea Din Tei (The Numa Numa Song)."

As for hard, I think an easy one is #8. Think of the American version of The X Factor. It's not known by that name, it's known by something much more familiar. I'll add more clues, just for everyone's sake.

BTW, Paul, sorry, it's not what you thought the answer was. (:

7. 3, 1, 4 - 4, 5 (Clue: Casey Wilson spoofed her on SNL, creating "less provocative" covers of her controversial hit song)

Hot N Cold - Katy Perry

Thanks for the extra clues! ;)

#4 is 'Bruises' by Chairlift.  It's because of that iPod commercial that the song has charted here in Canada :)

Correct! I can't believe she's such a rebel, considering she was once a Christian artist, and not to mention the daughter of pastors.  :o

And you are correct too! I really love that song!

No one wants to guess? There's no limits, and I never said that you couldn't Google.  :)

Yes, you're right, Karen. Can you identify the song? Here's another clue. She wrote this song in response to her friend's constant wondering why all the guys look at her, and their female significant others get jealous.

That's a really good guess Karen, but you have the wrong song.

I just googled for who did Sawdust and then looked for five word song titles!

Classic TV show, set at a school...could it be:

Welcome Back - John Sebastian. ???

6. 5, 6 - 1.1.1. (Clue: She named her first album after one of her parents; she also toured with Gwen Stefani)

10. 5, 1, 5 - 5, 7 (Clue: She performed at the Australian venue of Earth Aid)

I suppose the artist could be Kylie Minogue, but I can't think of a song. :(

As for the other clues:
I've never seen The Hills;
I'm not familiar with Hillsong;
we don't get Canadian Idol or the American equivalent of X Factor over here;
the only two Killers songs I know are 'Mr. Brightside' and 'Somebody Told Me' (yeah I know: shame on me);
just like Karen (I suppose) I've never even heard of Annie;
that Nikon commercial you're referring to is unknown to me;
and the only band with two twin sisters I can think of is The Veronicas (but they're Australian). :-\\ :(

So...sorry, but this is about it.

Since nondiva said we could Google stuff I had been trying that.  But finding Annie songs apart from Tomorrow and It's A Hard Knock Life was next to impossible!

Yes. :) Welcome Back, Kotter is the one. :)

Paper Planes - M.I.A.  :-\\

Yes, you're correct again! :) "Arular" was named after her father, which is the name of her first album. Her current one is called "Kala."

I suppose the artist could be Kylie Minogue, but I can't think of a song. :(

The Hills is a popular TV show about the lives of aspiring fashion designers making it big in Hollywood; it was a spinoff of another hit MTV show, Laguna Beach. Hillsong is a very famous church in Australia, known to bring famous worship songs like "Shout To The Lord," which was performed on American Idol, the American equivalent of The X Factor in a sense. Hope that helps somewhat. :)

I added further clues. The titles form part of the lyrics to the song, so that might help.

13. If there's a 8 for everyone - 7, 11 (Clue: Her brother's name is Daniel)

The singer must be Natasha Bedingfield. Don't know the song.

18. 4, 1, 4, 2, I wanna be famous - 3, 8, 5 (Clue: This group had a reality show where they found the seventh member of the band, but the winner never officially joined)

D'oh! Should've seen this one WAY sooner. :-When I Grow Up - The Pussycat Dolls

20. 5 or are we dancer? - The Killers - karen (Clue: This group recently released an album of B-sides called "Sawdust", and performed on SNL)

Are we Human...

It finally clicked when I saw the video to this song recently.

If you guys haven't noticed by now, I've added words as clues. I've added words that form the title, or the artist/group name. Hope that helps. Again, Googling is encouraged if you are stumped.

Sorry if this one didn't go as expected, but I hope you're not too disappointed. It's just that we're more of a 1970's / 1980's people around here. ;)

(FYI: Of the remaining answers, I do know #'s 11 and 19.)

Karma for being brave enough to try. :) Don't give up!

3. I Know UR Girlfriend Hates Me - Annie - karen

Oddly the only Annie song that even came close to fitting from what I googled seemed to be called I Know Your Boyfriend Hates Me.  Maybe someone misunderstood the song!  :-\\

It's all good. I'm a 90s child, so obviously music from today is what's stuck in my head. But I do like retro :).
