Subject: New Lyrics Quiz - Three Word Song Titles - LAST ANSWERS GIVEN

Written By: Henk on 10/22/08 at 7:23 am

I seem to be having quite a lot of spare time lately... ::)

Here's a new quiz I made for you. It's a lyrics quiz, so everyone can participate.
There's a theme that's yet to be discovered...Five Bonus Points if you get it right.
It shouldn't be too hard to find it
.

Let's start with a raise the limit to 7 for this quiz, and see how it goes from there.

LIMIT = OFF

Have fun, and please: no cheating!  8)

Hints!

14. This 1981 song, by a Dutch drummer (former member of Kayak), was popular in Germany and The Netherlands but didn't make UK Top 40, and only got to #74 in US.

17. A US #19 hit from this band, named after a US State, internationally known for 'Dust In The Wind'.

21. This 1978 song reached #18 in UK and #14 in US. One of the bands' other songs (they had many) was succesfully covered by Limp Bizkit.

23. A song from a one man band, basically. "Band" name consists of two identical words The The. The song peaked at #25 in UK and at #2 in US Modern Rock Charts.

58. Not a hit in UK or US for The House of Lords. I wasn't aware of this, but apparently it's a cover of a Stan Bush song.

61. A pan-European #1 hit (in a way) for this Irish singer Johnny Logan, although it just failed to make #1 in UK in 1987.

Hiya, Henk!  Nice to see you doing another quiz!!  :)

Unfortunately, most of the ones I know have already been taken...but I do have one...

27. Heart & Soul - Huey Lewis & The News (Probably not the artist you're looking for, but it's the only one I know... ::))

I also know one by T`pau, but he could be looking for some other performer...we'll just have to find out!

Edit: that particular line doesn't come from Tpau's song, so I could be wrong anyways

Number 24 is "Right Here Waiting" by Richard Marx.

I notice all the lines are alphabetically arranged...but I'm assuming that that's NOT the 'hidden theme'

11 Brimful of Asha - Cornershop

37 I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor

59 She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult

These are all correct, Karen. :)

53 is Lets Go Crazy - Prince
63 Wheel in the Sky - Journey

45 Like a Virgin - Madonna
57 One Fine Day - Carole King

I can give you only 3, Q. #63 is incorrect, I'm afraid (or at least not the song I'm looking for). And as for #57: I was actually thinking of the Chiffons, but you can't tell from the lyrics. ;)

I was going to say the Chiffons but I thought you'd be more familiar with Carole King's version.  Oh Well...

Okay so 63 is not Wheel in the sky  but that line does appear in Wheel in the sky doesn't it?  Just for my own clarification purposes  ;)

BTW: I only recently found out that James Taylor was in a band called Flying Machines before going solo, so I don't think it's entirely coincidental that he mentions "flying machines in pieces on the ground".

10 | Say It Again - Jermaine Stewart
26 | Tell Her No - The Zombies or Juice Newton.  I grew up with the Juice Newton version.  It has steel drums, an instrument rarely heard in pop songs at the time.  Loved it!

You nailed those two, Jason. :)

Juice Newton did a cover of "Tell Her No"...? I didn't know that. But then again, I didn't know the Zombies version either. Neither songs were hits over here, you see.

I thought you might have a go at #16. It's by a Canadian band, celebrating their 40th anniversary next year. ::)

In 1983.  It was her final Top 40 hit in North America

I knew those lyrics were familiar:  'Enough is Enough' by April Wine

I had to think of bands soon celebrating 40 years, and the only thing I could think of was April Wine.  They formed 39 years ago, but they haven't been together for 39 conesutive years though, so that threw me off a little LOL

Did April Wine have any hits in NL?

Probably not because this is a three word song title quiz.  Have you been at the "pop" again?  ;D

I was singing the lyric of #17 through my head for hours.  It came to me as I was listening to a homemade 80s mix I made:  'All I Wanted' by Kansas

#14 is also very familiar, but I can't quite place it

As promised. I've also added some extra lyrics.

"Band" name consists of two identical words. The song peaked at #25 in UK and at #2 in US Modern Rock Charts.

58. Not a hit in UK or US for this band, named after a parliamentary institute in Britain.

61. A pan-European #1 hit (in a way) for this Irish singer, although it just failed to make #1 in UK in 1987.

Well I've never heard of No. 17 ... only know them for 'Dust in the wind'. You sure come up with some obscure ones Henk.

As for 'pop' making me blunder with choice of Spandau Ballet's 'Only when you leave'  .... no ... I just have to admit ... I'm getting old and decrepit ... NOT to notice this is a THREE word title quiz.  :-[  :(

To many, 'All I Wanted' is Kansas' best single since 'Dust in the Wind'.  It was widely known across North America and is to me one of the most beautiful songs of it's time :)
