Subject: Music Q&A Quiz (read instructions carefully) <GAME OVER>

Written By: whistledog on 05/13/09 at 11:24 pm

So I was going to do an audio quiz, but my computer is very sick and won't let me, so for something totally different ...

This quiz should be rather easy, so to make it a bit challenging, the limit which I will provide is total guesses whether they are correct or not, so choose your questions carefully.  If an answer provided for a question is incorrect, that question becomes null and I will automatically reveal the answer.  Some questions may have more than one answer, thus partial answers do not count.  Pretty strict, ain't I? LOL

THE LIMIT IS 5

As Dick Clark used to say on Pyramid:  "Ready ... Go!"

Interesting type of quiz, Jas!

I think number 28 formed from Duran Duran.

And number 30 contained one member who was originally from Depeche Mode; and FTR he later became a member of Erasure.

Excellent break from the norm, Jason...hope the computer's up and running soon!  :)

'Guessing' with the first two, okay with the third!

#11. Pretty sure it's 'You Needed Me'...
#15. Shakin' Stevens
#37. That well-known firm of lawyers...Emerson, Lake & Palmer

Wow Jason, nice quiz, rather unique.

#1...Klaatu?

#26...Irene Cara?

I was going to answer #37 but I was just beaten to it. As the only true ELP fanatic on the boards I figured I was a shoo in
to answer that one, I figured wrong. :(

#30 is correct, unfortunately karen beat you to #28.  This cost you a guess, which means you still have 1 guess left

No guesses on any of the others Henk?

Man, I thought for sure someone would get #11 wrong.  I should have used the Boyzone cover, and then it would be like "It's a cover of the Anne Murray song, so it's not the one".  Neither Anne Murray or anyone from Canada wrote this song, so it is correct.  Your other two are correct also!

I threw in tarkus just for you.  Maybe there will be an ELP question in the next quiz, you never know ;)

All three of your guesses are correct!

For some interesting Trivia, Klaatu was a Canadian band.  In the 2008 remake of 'The Day the Earth Stood Still', the character Klaatu is played by Canadian actor Keanu Reeves

#29 is correct.  Bernard Sumner from New Order and Johnny Marr of The Smiths comprised the duo of Electronic.  Their first single 'Getting Away With It' featured backing vocals from Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys and interestingly enough, their 1992 hit 'Disappointed' was sung as a duet with Neil Tennant

They may, but then again they may not (or not in time). :-\\

Not to be picky or anything...but I feel like #30 question shouldn't have been in this quiz. Vince Clarke may have been in Depeche Mode, but Alison Moyet certainly wasn't. So...what band was she in? ???

Alison Moyet wasn't in a band.  Clarke was actually the one who formed Yaz.  He found Moyet through an ad he placed in a magazine looking for a singer for his project

No hints for #12 because it's multiple choice.  Either you're right or you're wrong.

HINTS ...
10 - This group, this group, this group's biggest hit was a cover of a 60s classic and appeared in a popular Hugh Grant film.
16 - "You're the disease, I'm the cure"
17 - A movie that earned golden globe nominations for all three of it's main stars.  The film would later be used as an inside joke in the 90s comedy 'Dumb and Dumber' that also starred one of the film's stars.
23 - A movie set in the 60s.  The band performs a song that would not become a hit until 2 years later.  I don't know if that's a good thing or not?
24 - In the movie, they perform their infamously controversial hit single, which makes sense given the back group of the movie
27 - This band also made an appearance in the movie 'Thrashin' that came out the same year.  They aren't dogs, though they do have 1 flea
