Subject: Henk's FAQ - Volume 1 [LAST ANSWERS REVEALED]

Written By: Henk on 09/21/09 at 3:15 pm

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/17/785141/HenksFAQ.png

No, it's not what you think it is (Frequently Asked Questions).
It's something entirely different... it's Henk's Final Audio Quiz! :\'(

Yes, I'm afraid this is going to be my swan song - unless I find another site to host my quizzes.
There's some good news too, though: I'm still working on Volumes 2 to 5. ;)

All songs in this quiz (volumes 1 to 5) are taken from the Top 2000 (2008 edition),
a yearly list compiled by listeners of Radio 2 (Dutch radio station).
There's songs from the 1940's to the 2000's, there's hits and there's album tracks...
I hope you enjoy listening (but please don't forget to answer!). :)

LIMIT = OFF. And please.. no cheating.

BONUS POINTS!
Bonus points are awarded if you can guess what position in Top 2000 the song is in.
Spot on: 20 bonus points.
Off by 25 (plus or minus): 10 bonus points.
Off by 50 (plus or minus): 5 bonus points.

Unlimited guesses for bonus points (until someone guesses within the bonus points range,
in which case I will reveal the exact position).

Hints!
06. Film music, title track of a Sergio Leone movie starring Charles Bronson as a mysterious wanderer with a harmonica.
Other cast members include Henry Fonda, Claudia Cardinale and Jason Robards.
18. To my surprise, this wasn't a hit in UK or US. The singer (Melanie) wanted us to lay down at Woodstock.
This song is about attractive humans.
20. Well, she isn't going out with him (= the singer)...Maybe that's why he settles for second best?
42. Not a hit in UK, and it only made #31 in US.
The singer (Albert Hammond) thinks he's chugging down a track...

Hi Henk :)

#1  Walk and Don't Look Back - Peter Tosh and Mick Jagger

#2  The Man with the Child in his Eyes - Kate Bush

#3  Who'll Stop the Rain - Creedence Clearwater Revival

#4  Stay - Jackson Browne

Hiya Amanda  :) You picked the perfect time to be around. ;)

All four answers are correct (although #4 is actually a double feature: The Load Out / Stay). 8)

Any guesses on their whereabouts (for bonus points)...?

Well, I sincerely hope I can find a new host site, but it's not going to be easy.

#5. God Only Knows' - Beach Boys
#10. 'Don't Forget To Remember' - Bee Gees
#13. 'Golden Brown' - Stranglers
#16. 'Mama' - Genesis

Four for four, Paul! :)

That's the easy bit...no idea on these positions (I suppose with a bit of detective work one could find out!), but I'll hazard with...

Beach Boys - #150
Bee Gees - #500

Actually, you're not that far off, but too far off for bonus points.

Stranglers - #1450
Genesis - #1800

Sorry, but those are really way off.

Here's a little hint: I've tried to avoid any correlation between the position in this quiz and the position in the Top 2000.

Hmmm... that doesn't really simplify things, does it? ;D

Henk's final audio quiz  :o ?? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

Ah well, I will enjoy it while I can and shamelessly pick some of my favourites from what is once again a wonderful eclectic mix:

#30 Spanish Stroll - Mink DeVille
#34 Mother And Child Reunion - Paul Simon
#39 London Calling - The Clash
#49 Why? - Bronski Beat

#49 was the first song that I danced to with my wife, when I met her in a Liverpool nightclub way back in 1984 (was it really that long ago?).
So now we are stuck with it, when people ask "What is 'your tune'?", we have to shrug and say it's "Why?" by Bronski Beat....and they look completely nonplussed by that.

Not all year, I hope. Especially since you now have 10 bonus points for the Beach Boys song (at #59).

40 | New York Minute - Don Henley

Cool quiz Henk.  I am also in the process of looking for a free hosting site for the html files for the quiz.  Ones that aren't riddles with pop up ads, but no luck yet.

14. Still loving you by The Scorpions?  (Bonus - #250)

Correct on the song and artist. Bonus: Close, but no cigar. Aim lower.

23. Blackbird by The Beatles?  (Bonus - #78)

It is indeed. Bonus: again, pretty close. Aim lower.

32.  This guy's in love with you by Burt Bacharach?  (Bonus - #450)

Well... yes and no. It is Burt Bacharach singing, but I'm looking for another artist (for obscure reasons, I couldn't find the right version of the song - so I picked the instrumental part of this one instead. For a good reason..  ::)).

Bonus: sadly, it's way lower.

38. Lonely boy - Andrew Gold?  (Bonus - #1000)

Again, correct on the song and artist. Bonus: close again, but also too high again.

Sorry to hear that. :( I suppose replacing your sound card isn't an option? :-\\ (Replacing your computer seems a bit... out of proportion)

I know my brother has the same problem, but that may be due to him using illegal/unlicenced software.

Holy mackerel!  There are 4 more volumes after this one?  Will we be able to get through them all before Oct. when Geocities self destructs?  That's ALOT of work that you've done, Mr. Henk!  I'm impressed.  Truly.

I can see your point about limiting guesses, it WOULD be a pain in the...  checking the ranking EVERY time.  Would other players be able to guess other rankings of songs they did not know the names of?  (If that makes any sense.)

Oh, and my last guess for bonus points...

I'm still working on the remaining volumes, but I'm confident they will be up and running before the end of this month (or early October latest). I wanted to go with a bang.

I mean: a BANG!

I think you misunderstood. When I said "lower", I meant it's ranked  lower - which means the number should be higher (and vice versa).

So you're still way off. And with that I mean: REALLY way off. :(

I thought it seemed odd ! ???

I'll try these then:

Peter Tosh and Mick Jagger - #1,450

Kate Bush - #350

Creedence Clearwater Revival  - #500

Jackson Browne - #150

That one is ranked lower. In fact, it's the fourth lowest ranked in this quiz.

Kate Bush - #350

Creedence Clearwater Revival  - #500

Jackson Browne - #150

These three are each ranked higher. The Jackson Browne song is the third highest ranked in this quiz (and the other two have already been answered...). Surprising, what?

Peter Tosh & Mick Jagger: that one should be lower on the list (somewhere between 1450 and 2000)

The other three all should be higher: Kate Bush is somewhere between 1 and 350, CCR is somewhere between 1 and 500, and Jackson Browne is somewhere between 59 and 150. ;)

Other cast members include Henry Fonda, Claudia Cardinale and Jason Robards.
Once Upon A Time In The West - Ennio Morricone

42. Not a hit in UK, and it only made #31 in US.
The singer (Albert Hammond) thinks he's chugging down a track...

And there I was, thinking #6 would be one of the first to go...  :-[
