Subject: Black And Blue Lyrics Quiz [LAST ANSWERS REVEALED]

Written By: Henk on 08/10/10 at 1:52 pm

About time for a new lyrics quiz…don’t you think?  :D
Pretty straightforward, this one.
Song titles or name of artist contain the word black or (and) blue.
A point for each correct answer (original artist + title)
Five bonus points for #26 and #40 (‘cause I don’t think anyone knows…)

Limit = OFF now.
As always, no cheating please… Good luck!  :)

HINTS!

First of all: there's a hint in the colour of the lyrics.

02. Album track by my favorite band Depeche Mode]
07. I put this one in for Jason.
10. Album track by Canadian singer who's not easily impressed by Brad Pitt.Shania Twain]
11. This was a UK #2 for a rock band that saw smoke on the water.
15. The singer is Belle Baker.
16. Singer/songwriter who also sang about changing times.
17. Album track by a singer, also known for his cooperation with Clarence Clemons.
18. Aussie band (relatively unkown abroad) with their biggest Aussie hit.
20. Another Aussie band whose beds are burning. Song reached #47 in UK and #28 in Holland.
25. This song (a Lennon/McCartney composition) made it to #7 in UK and #79 in US.
34. This song reached #23 in UK and #66 in US. The duo singing are named after a German car.
35. The band had an international hit with Natural Born Bugie Humble Pie], but this song only reached #43 in Holland.
37. A UK #8 and Dutch #33 for this deep dark singer.
39. Again, an album track by my favorite band.Depeche Mode]
40. This song (named after a 1963 event) by a Jamaican raggae band made #52 in Holland. Their only other claim to fame was 'What Is Life'.
41. This song peaked at #24 in both UK and Holland, and at #48 in US. Band is named after a type of birds.
46. I'm suprised no one answered this. This was an international hit (UK #1, US #1, NL #3) for a singer who died last year
.

Hiya, Henk! Seems like it's been forever since I last saw a lyrical quiz. Let's see which ones I can figure out...

23 = "Breakfast At Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something (a song which I remember quite well...)

...that's all I got for now. Maybe if I study these a little more I can figure out others.

I'm pretty sure I've picked up the gentle strains of it being sung at televised matches at the Bridge...

It's served them well, as I don't think they have another 'tune'...

And I wouldn't have thought that song would have been a hit anywhere but in Britain!

Nice work! I can only give you 1.5 points though, because Willie Nelson isn't the original artist for #15. Here's a little hint: the original version dates back to 1926.  :D

Then that's probably not right. Oh well, I knew it was linked to him. 'Twas a guess. :-\\

All I know is that various performers have recorded it over the years...hopefully someone else knows the correct original performer.

True .... the song was "Blue Sky Mine"  Thanks for giving me some latitude.  :)

Garrett has come under a lot of criticism for 'selling out' to one of the major parties. I think he is just a committed environmentalist who realised that the best way to change the system is to get into the system. It didn't work out that way though. He was given a lot of latitude by the Labor Party but when things became a little unpopular...they muzzled him. In fact, we didn't see him at all during the election campaign.

His biggest failure was to attempt to put insulation into the roofs of all Aussie homes (it DOES get hot over here in summer). Of course, it wasn't thought through and all the dodgiest insulation installers ripped off the new system and did a bad job. Some houses had fires (resulting in deaths) and some young (not well trained) installers were electrocuted stapling through electrical wires etc. The whole system was scrapped (and Garrett was effectively downsized in his job duties).

Immigration is (for some reason) a hot topic here. I suppose there is some hostility as 'the boat people' just keep coming. Then they are sent to a detention centre...and eventually get a free pass into the country and given good accommodation, aid etc. Many think we should be looking after our own homeless people in at least the same manner (if not first). Aslo, Aussies don't like queue jumpers...

The other simmering issue is that (just like the rest of the world) many boat people are Muslims and we are finding that that particular religion does not integrate into Western society easily (without wanting to change those societies to Sharia law etc).

Anyway...that was more than you bargained for in your song quiz!  ;D
