Subject: 1972 Audio Quiz [Volume 2 - Done And Dusted]

Written By: Henk on 03/19/11 at 7:58 am

And there it is...Volume 2 of my 1972 quizzes.

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/17/785141/1972.jpg

Again, some artists are represented twice, and the limit = OFF to start with.

Have fun!
:)

If the image above doesn't show for you, here's a direct link to the quiz: http://faultydog.fileave.com/197202b.html

Hints!
13. Song title: it's something single persons are much more likely to do every morning than those in a relationship.
The song only made #60 in US.
14. This world famous country singer died in an airplane crash in 1997.
29. This jazz/soul ensemble, formed in 1960, helped Randy Crawford launch her career.
This specific instrumental piece only reached #52 in US.
32. This male vocal group (more popular in Europe) is notorious for setting the dancefloor ablaze.
The song was first performed by Hal LeRoy and Eunice Healy in the 1934 stage production "Thumbs Up!".
It was covered in the 1950's and 1960's by The Kirby Stone Four, The Coasters, The Satintones and P.J. Proby (among others).
34. The follow-up to "Jungle Fever", a hit record by an obscure Belgian studio act. Song title: floors, or: what you tell your kids before
      they go to sleep.
39. I don't think this was a genuine band, and I don't have any clues. They were called Clean Living.
43. The second appearance in this quiz by a man who lend his voice to a South Park character.
This instrumental (written for an obscure television show on ABC, apparently) reached #38 in US.

You got three and a half correct, Carol. It's not Jimmy Cliff singing, as you already suspected.

#22...Conquistador...Procol Harum?

#36...I Am Woman...Helen Reddy?

#37...Elected...Alice Cooper?

#45...Living In The Past...Jethro Tull?

#48-The Wedding Song (There Is Love) (written by Paul Stokey-of Peter, Paul, & Mary fame) but don't know who is singing it-even though I love the Gordon Lightfoot's version much better.

#4. 'Look What You Done For Me' - Al Green
#5. 'Ain't Understanding Mellow' - Jerry Butler and...(sheesh! Can't quite remember the woman's name... :-[)
#7. 'Betcha By Golly Wow' - Stylistics
#8. 'Running Away' - Sly & The Family Stone

#50 has been haunting me. I knew it was off of his Greatest Hits album which I wore out in my younger days. Then it hit me-not Ready but Sitting.

I relistened to #25 and it sounds like Three Dog Night. A guess because I don't recall them ever doing that song.

Oh yes.  I more or less buy them just to have them, only because I don't have proper space for a record player setup, so when I want to listen to an album, it's a whole big production of having to set up the player and the speakers.

The final batch of what I can come up with (brain and book working overtime for these!)

#10. 'Do Your Thing' - Isaac Hayes
#26. 'Gone' - Joey Heatherton
#27. Title...'Sweet Inspiration'
#31. 'Starting All Over Again' - Mel & Tim
#33. 'Life And Breath' - Climax
#40. Title...'Annabelle'

I never said it would be easy... ::) But those are all correct. :)

Okay Henk, from your clues.

#13...Waking Up Alone?

#14...John Denver?

We'll get this finished if it kills us... :D

#29. 'Put It Where You Want It' - Crusaders
#32. 'Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart' - Trammps
#34. 'Stories' - Chakachas (had a feeling it was them, as it sounds exactly like 'Jungle Fever', but never heard this song before...)
#43. 'Theme From The Men' - Isaac Hayes (must have been obscure...a 70s US TV show that didn't make it to our shores!)

(Phew! Couldn't make 1973 a bit more 'mainstream' could you? My brain would be ever so grateful!  ;))

And with that this quiz is now officially completed! :)

I'm not surprised you've never heard this specific tune by Chakachas. I don't think anyone has! ;D

As for "The Men"... the show isn't even listed on the Wiki page for TV Series And Shows Aired by ABC! :o

And who said anything about 1972 being finished...? ::)

Oh, you've got the really obscure stuff on the way?  :o

Anyway, I'm annoyed...you cannot have a genuine 1972 quiz without the mighty 'Mouldy Old Dough' being involved!  >:( ;)

I should have known that Joey Heatherton song.  I hear it on the radio lots, but I only ever knew it to hear it, not by title.  Still an excellent song.

Plenty of 1972 hits left for the sequel(s)... as well as lots of lesser known tracks. ;)

I've made a random selection of 1972 songs, so who knows... better stay tuned!
